Not only he lied about his friendship, but also he talked about him being inferior and he proved it, so guts did the right thing. Cuz what kind of friendship is it if u're gonna lie about it just to seem majestic to someone? But when guts returned, he realized that the band was where he belongs thanks to his men, and that he was meant to be a raiders commander even if he's just a pion for Griffith to reach his dream, but he'll still be surrounded by people who care about him, people who make the band a place he can call "home".
