Saw this back in '66 and was totally enthralled. Still my favourite...

Good episode--but NOT EEEEEVEN my favorite.
The City on the Edge of Forever
      Mirror, Mirror
      The Enemy Within
      The Doomsday Machine
      Day Of The Dove
      Spectre Of The Gun
      All Our Yesterdays
To name just a few that had The Corbomite Maneuver soundly beat........

Had no idea he was that much younger than his famous brother Ron. Thought this was some optical effects. Of course I remember him later as The communicator in “Apollo 13” who had to guide the crew through shutting things down.

I was at a 1993 movie audition where Clint Howard was one of several trying out for a small part - he was by far the funniest and the best but the producers wanted another actor friend of theirs.

Memory Alpha lists Walker Edmiston as the voice of Balok, dubbing over Clint Howard. Vic Perrin did not provide the voice over. Still is cool when I hear Ted Cassidy as the Commander of the Fesarius.

Clint referred to "Vic." He was probably thinking of Vic Perrin (Control Voice of The Outer Limits). Vic probably would have done that voice very well, but as we know it wasn't him.

This video could be half as long if they'd edit out the opening and closing graphics of each segment. However, I always enjoy seeing behind the scenes stories of Star Trek and other classic TV shows.

This was not Clint Howard's television debut. That would have been THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW playing Leon as a very little boy starting in 1962.
Synthesizers, harmonizers or vocoders were either not available or not nearly powerful & sophisticated enough in the 60's to have made this a viable plan altering Balok/Clint's voice. Star Trek certainly was hampered by the state of technology in the 60's but did a marvelous job in spite of it.

heheheheh. You beat me to it. In fact, last might (March 19, 2015) Me-TV aired an episode of "The Andy Griffith" show and Clint was on it playing Leon wearing his trademark cowboy outfit with his ever present PB&J sandwich.

Ted Cassidy played the voice of the scary monster puppet. Clint Howard said, "...they were going to put my voice through a synthesizer and that's how they were going to have Balak's voice; which may have been the plan. They may have tried it and it may not have worked so they went ahead and brought in the gentleman, Vic, I believe, to do the voice-over." (2:01-2:17). According to Wikipedia, however, the voice-over was done by Walker Edmiston.

Paul Gentry is right, Mr. Nimoy is wrong. Clint Howard was on 5 Andy Griffith Shows. He had a running character of Leon, a peanut butter & jelly sandwich eating, cowboy costume wearing , little boy who was always offering someone a bite of his sandwich.

Technically speaking, an actor makes his "debut" when he or she is featured in a film or TV series and has a speaking role. Not when they just appear as an extra. Otherwise, you could say that Robert Mitchum made his "debut" in the Alfred Hitchcock classic, "Saboteur" when he appeared on-screed for a couple of seconds as an extra.
So, Clint Howard's stint as "Leon" on The Andy Griffith Show would not really count as a debut since he was only in each episode for several seconds, didn't speak, and simply offered people a bite of his sammich. It's gotta be some kind of featured speaking role for a proper debut.
However, if you check IMDb, Clint was in several other TV shows and a couple of movies before "The Corbomite Maneuver", so if he was featured in any of them, then Nimoy's line about Clint making his debut would not be correct. But if this was the first time he was featured, then it would be correct.

Clint Howard: "Now what Tranya actually was was pink grapefruit juice. Now...to this DAY, I'm not a fan of pink grapefruit juice. And when I was 7 years old, it was one of those things ~ it was like green beans ~ it made me gag. And I was a wise enough...you know...actor...I knew that they could put anything in that glass...to toast. I went to my dad, and I said, 'Dad, you know, do you think we might be able to make some sort of adjustment here?' And Dad goes, 'No, no, you're an actor, & it's your job to make this work. And you're not...trust me, Son, you're not going to throw up. It's good...' my dad tasted it and goes 'No, it's good pink grapefruit juice. Go ahead and drink it.' So, if you notice in the episode, you know, I'll ~ I take the big slug...[Making a face]...and I'm really like, 'I hope you relish it as much as I.' "

Another actor who never spoke was the tall one who played “Jaws” in a couple Bond movies with Roger Moore ( cannot recall his name) he was also the 9foot alien in the twilight zone episode “ To Serve Man” and they used another voice. But his face was ominous and scary. Oh-Richard Kiel- he did speak in “Happy Gilmore”

I think DeForest Kelley and Anthony Call made a face after they tried it. Either he likes pink grapefruit juice, or Shatner asked the film editor to cut the film so they didn't get his reaction.
