    First off I want to say that I can't thank these guys enough for doing this for me. We blew the head gasket 5 years ago pulling, it got drained and put in the barn, time slipped away from me due to my father's health. But after my father passed I made this a priority to get done as I wanted to honor him on his last ride. And yes this tractor is it's full work clothes as my father had always said to anyone that gave him grief about the way his tractors looked (paint don't make them run). I what to thank Brandon, Dale, and Alex again this means so much more to me than you could imagine! With that being said rest easy pop's I'll keep your tradition of the ole 2 cylinders and pulling going as long as I'm able to.

    Just got done getting a 1950 John Deere A twin cylinder going. Rebuilt the carb with the major kit plus float. We got it going the magneto is capable of about a 1/16 inch spark gap so it's a little tough to get going.

    On thing I like about those tractors is their simplicity. They are so easy to work on. I completely rebuilt a 39 B including engine trans and rear end. Mind you I don't see myself as a mechanic but I have farmed all my life and worked on equipment so I have a reasonably good mechanical ability and with videos like this one and many others I did it and she runs good (so far). I am currently working on sheet metal and need some rear rims. I have the flat spoke rims but the rims are rusted completly out so I don't know what I will do. I can get new rims and have the centers re mounted but very costly. By the way those studs are tapered in the thread as to seal the block as you tighten them. A little sealant never hurts though...

      Yes and no. They are easy to work on but they need alot of maintenance around the clutch. The manual says you have to pull apart the clutch every 2 years to lube the bearing inside, and that bearing is a pain to get to. My B also had a cracked flywheel so I had to find another good used one.

    The thickness of new head gaskets for those old tractors seem to vary quite a bit. Just comparing the head gasket in the new set I just got from Steiner for my 1950 John Deere A and another new-old-stock gasket (still in the Hastings cardboard sleeve), they differ in thickness by .008". If yours differed that much, that means your valves are off that much from what they were. I thinks I'd check those valve clearances.

    To give the G some run in time hook the beast to the disk you pulled with the 620 that will make it bark, the G has almost 35 h. p. over the 620, let's hear it talk.

    Brandon do you have any specific info on that Milwaukee pipe wrench? I’m looking at the HD website and there’s too many choices. You were raving about it and it’s a wrench I could definitely use but you didn’t even give me a good look at it lol

    Why are you not checking valve settings, every time you take it down, valve clearance should checking/adjusted.

    I believe there is an equation for torques on lubed bolts that aren't specified as being lubed during assembly. Dry bolts are torqued to higher specs than lubed. Not sure the science behind it. Just passing on information.

    • @FFmike790
      @FFmike790 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jeff Soucie You are correct, lubrication reduces (dry) friction, requires less effort to obtain acquired holding strength on threads. And I was taught, which I later read from different manufactures that reiterated, that you step up in increments across all fasteners before reaching total spec.
