Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’m a fresh graduate from accounting background and I’m currently looking for Finance analyst job yet I don’t have any experiences in this field so didn’t know where to start. Being a financial analyst, how important are your communication and prioritization skills as it relates to working on a team? I come from a public accounting tax background, fast paced and heavily reliant on individual team members performing; I’d like to leverage that experience but not sure if analysts are as typically team oriented
Hey, those two skills are critical in my opinion. You'll work in teams most if not all the time as an FA. Being able to communicate and work well with others is something you'll be judged on heavily. Similarly, prioritisation is important as you'll normally be working on multiple deliverables at the same time so being able to distinguish between important tasks and those that aren't is essential. Hope this helps 🙂
@@FinanceUnboxed Wonderful, thank you for your response! If I could inquire further - how would you compare a roll of a senior in public accounting to that of a senior analyst? Great advise for someone your age, but what about mid/late career switchers? I'm more qualified now than I was 20 years ago, but I don't see anyone who can switch. People will say 'they need people' or 'you are certainly qualified,' but the age discrimination in the US is unreal. There is so much help out there for 20-something or returning moms, but no one cares about the mid career folks (men particularly) with education, qualification and experience and aptitude, but if there is no brand name on the resume, you get rejected. I don't get it.
This is something which is very useful to one who wants to pursue his/her career as a financial analyst. Since my exams got cancelled due to covid and I am thinking to enrol myself for some technical course. What courses do you recommend which could help me in securing my dream role as an analyst? I currently work at a large broker-dealer my first year out of college (general studies major lol). Just passed my series 7 and 63 last month and I’m thinking about long-term prospects for my career. At first I wanted to be client-facing but I’m thinking more and more about the CFA and going into a more analytical role. Finding direction is hard so is there any advice that you may offer? My bachelor’s doesn’t immediately qualify me for much but I’ve demonstrated my commitment to the industry already but want to see about avoiding the time commitment of an MBA for now.
Hi Joshua, thanks for the message. I agree that finding the path you feel is right is challenging, especially as you may feel there is a large sunk cost involved going down the wrong route initially. However, I think there is value in exploring a few routes at the start, even though they might not lead to be your longer term career path. I suppose what I'm trying to convey is that you might not get it right the first time, but don't stress about it too much. When making the decision, think about where your strengths and interests lie and which roles offer the chance the develop a wide range of skills. You can develop a specialist skill set further down the line. Best of luck.
@@FinanceUnboxed Appreciate that insight! I know I’m still fairly new to all of this but I guess I just need to give it time for me to figure out a bit more about this industry. Thank you!

@@angelcabrera5408 oh jeez I’m so sorry I never responded to this!!! Honestly to get a break into a brokerage firm you don’t need a finance background. Some people on my team never went to college and their last jobs were something in retail. I have a “degree” (its general studies lol) and it’s very sparingly assisted with anything. Even those with finance or math degrees have said it hasn’t helped much. If you’re wanting to get into an internship, I’d highly recommend learning about the culture of the company you’d apply for and try to speak with a manager or recruiter before you submit an app for the program. Lots of companies do college outreach. Even if you don’t land an internship, most firms will hire and train you and pay for licensing. You just have to be very eager to learn and coachable.
Hey, there's no such thing as "best job" necessarily. It all depends on what your interests are and what your long term career objectives are. One thing to keep in mind is that you may change industries/job verticals often in your career so don't stress too much about making the "perfect" choice. Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you!
Hey Joshua that’s an awesome profession! I’m an 18 year old individual hoping to Pursue a profession in the financial world like a broker, analyst etc you being a experienced individual I’d love if you could share some of the tips you incorporated to be where you are today. Any tips to what degree to pursue ? What programs to join ? I’m just starting to go to a college any information would be truly appreciated.
@@turtl97ow did you get in with a non-vocational background. Did you do any internships? I myself am trying to get into finance.
Hello, I am a Qualified CMA (ICWA)....can I get a job as a Financial analyst ?
Yes, you certainly can. The qualification provides a good foundation of financial knowledge.
@@FinanceUnboxed Thanks
What do you think is best job for a graduating finance major with a bachelors degree
Hey, there's no such thing as "best job" necessarily. It all depends on what your interests are and what your long term career objectives are. One thing to keep in mind is that you may change industries/job verticals often in your career so don't stress too much about making the "perfect" choice. Hope this helps 🙂
@@FinanceUnboxed thank you it does

Hey i am an ACCA students is ACCA good for financial analyst?
Hi, yes it certainly is useful. Being an accountant you'll naturally be good with numbers and have strong technical knowledge, which will set you up well for a Financial Analyst role. Hope this helps. 🙂
@@FinanceUnboxed and sir of you don't mind can you please answer my one more question?
For becoming a financial analyst which type of role i should choose for my articleship in big 4 like audit ,tax ,or something else.?
Financial analyst roles are available in the Transactions department predominantly. In Consulting, you can join at an entry level and the skills you'll develop are pretty similar to what you'd need for a Financial Analyst role. You can do an articleship in audit and tax but it won't be as a Financial Analyst.
@@FinanceUnboxed thank you very much

Can US CMA help me to get into Financial Analyst?
Yes certainly
Do you think you could be a financial advisor with a bachelors in biology?
You could be either an advisor or an analyst. Analyst is harder to get. Sometime biology is a better background, especially for pharmaceuticals.

Hey, first of all, this was the most informative video about my biggest concern, I have come across. Really appreciate and thanks for that 😀
I have a request, can you suggest which type of articles should I read to have better understanding about the industry and their sources also?
Thank you for the positive feedback, it's much appreciated 😀
In terms of reading, the Financial Times and the Economist are good places to start. You should be able to find their websites through searching them on Google. Other than those, Bloomberg and BBC News are decent as well. Hope this helps!
@@FinanceUnboxed Yes, it's really helpful but can you also suggest some topics to start with?
No topics as such when it comes to financial news. What I'd say is try and understand why certain decisions were made by individuals or companies I.e. don't just consume facts. Hope that makes sense 🙂

Is MBA necessary for a commerce graduate to become a financial analyst?
Hey, no its not needed, atleast in the UK. Not sure whether it is where you're based

Hi, I am currently doing a course on LinkedIn "Become a financial analyst(17 h)". I a postgraduate n science back ground and doesn't have any prior experience in this domain. Will this certification makes me land a Job or what are the other things I need to get into a Job in financial domain?
Hey, well done on taking the initiative and doing the course. The certification itself is clearly just one part of the story. Any skills that you can bring across from your previous career will also be important. Doing the course shows that you are serious about a position in the sector and certainly helps your cause. I'd suggest keeping on doing courses if you can, so you can build your technical skills and it'll also look good on applications. Best of luck.
I have completed Masters in Financial Analysis, I have applied for various finance posts but i dont get any reply from them.
Hi, appreciate it can be frustrating when you don't get a reply to your applications. Have you tried Linkedin for opportunities?
Really very useful but I need information that how to build knowledge about valuation or finance which is needed for interview.
I am also learning Financial Modelling and Valuation.
All I need guidance.🙏
Hey, to build knowledge you can take free online Finance courses on websites such as Coursera. There are also some good tutorials on TH-cam. Maybe look at the syllabus for a university Finance course and use that as a structure for which subjects you learn about. Hope this helps.
How can I get a internship in finance ? How can I improve my profile for the same ?
Most internships are now advertised online on company websites so I'd suggest you have a look at those firstly.
