Mourning Doves are one of my favorite bird breeds..Thank you for sharing such a beautiful and educational video..I so enjoyed it, and will be putting out extra seed in the spring time so they can feed their little wee ones .We get so many of these beautiful birds feasting in our yard all year round.
When the mother went to the empty nest at the end looks like she still was trying to regurgitate the food for the chicks by habit or following her reflex , but then probably realized that they were gone.
Around nesting season, we need to be a lot more vigilant about keeping the garage door closed because there’s always this pair of mourning doves that try to build their nest in the garage door motor housing.
I have a ton of birds that are all around my backyard that look like these (dark grey bodies with black spots.... but smaller). They don't ever hoot/coo, though. They only chirp. I'm not convinced they are Mourning Doves, but nothing is coming up other than that when I search the web. I'm in northern California. Help! Am I indeed watching Mourning Doves? Again, they are smaller and only "chirp." EDIT 7/20/23: THEY ARE Mourning Doves, AND California Towhees. I was mixing the 2 and getting confused lol
What a very detailed , educational, awesome video !! I really enjoyed this! I live in upstate NY 30 mins. from the Canadian Border and have Mourning Doves and wondered about their story ... I don't usually see them here at my feeder. First bird ever to fend off an aggressive chipmunk at the bird feeder ! Thank you 🥰💖🙏
It’s interesting how they carry the eggshell away, rather than just drop it out of the nest. I’d guess it’s so there’s no indication babies are close by?
Is the Male-Dove "Darker" in Appearance...? ... Which Dove is "Lighter in Color"....? ... I need to know how to "tell" the difference between the Male & the Female .. Thank You .. Great Video...!!!!!
Omg thats sooooo cool i love birds so much 👍🏻 👍🏻 👍🏻

She's been out for days, of course they're gone.
Can't stay in same place when you're hungry.
OR...she was commemorating that her job was done sucsessfully :)
That's what is looks like when they coo; their chest bellows.

Sharp shell edges could injure newly hatched chicks, and there are many other reasons why they remove eggshells away from the nest.
