4:12 Important note when syncing up multiple clips, for example multiple cameras for an interview: It always syncs to the clip selected first. So if for example a camera needed a battery swap and thus you have 2 clips from that cam, when selecting the audio first and the cameras second, the sync will arrange both clips of that camera to the audio. If you select the first clip of that camera first, the audio and other cameras are synced, but the second clip of that camera cannot be synced, as there is no matching audio. Had to figure this out a while ago.
Jason - thanks for this - I've watched a number of your videos, and this one did a nice job of refreshing my memory on this steep learning curve that is DR19!
Thank you! Learned some new things. I never use the cut tab and now I have a reason to revisit that. I've always synced audio on the edit tab and have never been happy with the automatic syncing from DaVinci. I just do it by hand.
Came to watch the video about ducking, ended up clicking on this one as it sounded promising and holy crap, you don't know how useful that auto cut scenes feature is gonna be for the exact same video I'm working on!
Resolve doesn't automatically set project to resolution of clip you bring in, only sets matching frame rate. That catches me all the time, as other editors auto set frame rate and resolution
I've never used Resolve or any video editing software. Is it possible to have a clip that has both 4K 30p and 1080p at 60 fps, and have DaVinci automatically increase the 30p (fps?) to 60 fps and the 1080p to 4K? If it is capable of doing that, does the software require a particularly "powerful" computer?
@@SeekerNJWCNot possible, otherwise no one would bother recording in 4k if you could just bump 1080p up to 4k later in post. There is an upscale tool but it isn't going to look nearly as good as genuine 4k. Same goes for frame rate you can't increase frame rate later only lower it
The more I watch your channel and learn about Resolve the more I’m tempted to give it another try 😁! Question: I have a MacBook Air M3 (16gb 512gb ssd) and use FCP. Will running resolve possibly slow down my computer? With FCP I work off of an external hard drive, can I do the same with resolve? I would love to learn the program and all that it can do!! 😊
Glad my videos have been helpful for you! Resolve shouldn't slow down your computer. I'd start with the free version so you can try it out, but keep in mind that the studio version will run better and smoother because it will use the GPU. There are always things you can do to speed up the program too if you need. I've got videos on that to help. Yes, you can work off an external drive with Resolve. I do that and I use a samsung T7 SSD, 2 TB drive. It works great. You media files can be stored anywhere you'd like, Resolve just references them. You'd want to keep the project library (Database) on your internal drive for the best performance. The database/project library doesn't get very big, so no need to worry about clogging up the computer hard drive.
Jason, in addition to autosave, will a project automatically be saved when you close out the project? Do you need to force save a project prior to closing down DaVinci Resolve? All your tips are very helpful, thanks!
Hi Jason. Big fan of your videos. learnt so much about fairlight because of your videos. I have a question, can we not create a sync beep in fairlight ? There is an option for in avid media composer but i cannot find anything regarding this in online. can you please help me ?
You can create a beep in Fairlight by going to the patch menu and choose system generator on the left drop down, choose beeps or the oscillator , then patch that to the track you want. I think that will do what you're looking for.....🤔
Hey brother 🖐️ I spend lots of time color grading and I'd no idea there was an auto option. I shall investigate further. What's your experience been with the auto normalise audio? I haven't experimented with it yet.
@@JasonYadlovski Yeah, I thought so with you being TH-cams Captain Audio 😏 I'll give it a go anyway. I've fallen in love with the ducking feature. It suits what I'm going perfectly and the results are fairly consistent so far.
Do you trust the auto audio leveller features for serious projects? Or can it potentially cause unwanted gain. E.g. could it turn your background music up too loudly then suddenly drop its levels again. I fear by pressing that you will need to listen to your whole mix through again to make sure it didnt mess anything up
Hey Jason how are you doing?,I were into your crash course but it’s for DR 17,there’s a way that you could update it to the current Studio version?,to can buy it,Thanks.
I'm working on an updated version, should be ready soon - free here on TH-cam. Is it the same idea used by filmora? Your videos will sync and match the beat of your audio? I will start filming a lot if that's the case.
