Love the scenery… what’s not to like?
That American voice was the dulcet tones of Stan, KE5EE. A big operator in the dx world. Great that you contacted Roly, too. Another big gun in the dx world. Think you’re having way too much fun over there!
    Happy New Year, Hayden.

    Hi Hayden,
Good that you made a contact with Roly and Gail. I'm hoping to one day get them both in my log with the improving band conditions. You and your family have a safe and Happy New Year. 73 WJ3U

QRP portable mid-morning to early afternoon can be hard work. 4 to 6pn and it's altogether different. Time to learn CW 🤓👍 Good try Hayden, a 10 point snow capped summit next please!

Thanks for sharing the activation. The scenery is amazing and the weather looked to be a treat.

I'm not sure about ZL but there is a local award for VKFF for getting 10 contacts

I like my EFHW but the link dipole also allows you to stand up and walk around to swap bands. Especially if you don't have a chair or cushion HI.

PS - In the meantime, superglue the cap back together and cut out a small piece of plastic to make a cap..

God I love NZ, been to Taupo, Rotarua on the North Island, plan is to return this time next year, might bring radio but definitely bringing the fly fishing gear.

I'd about forgotten how lovely the scenery can be in ZL. It's been 30 years since I've been. Definitely need a chair or cushion. Lava rock (depending on the type) may look pillowy but it is still rock. 😉

Good on ya Hayden for having a go.
I’m sure @dxcommander can sort you out with a new part for your squid pole.
Keeping an ear (HamAlert) out for your activations in ZL land or even back home.

You should try an old yoga mat for a cushioned seat, works well

Just decided my New Year’s resolution is to do more ham radio instead of watching it on YT. I haven’t had a contact this year!! 😂. My squid pole arrived in the post with the cap broken like that Hayden ! (Not a DX commander one)

Do you know if your spot on the ParksNPeaks app actually worked? The reason I ask is I haven’t seen any of your spots and I’ve found there is a bug in the app where the app doesn’t actually submit the spot. The app developer (Sue VK5AYL) has confirmed the bug and as a work around you need to Send the spot via SMS or create an Alert for yourself first, swipe the Alert right and select Log/Spot and send the spot from there.
I’ve found from past activations that I only get a few contacts (like you did for this activation) when no spot is submitted compared to when a spot is submitted I get heaps more.

I spotted using the website and confirmed that it was listed on there. Strangely enough though HamAlert didn’t give me a ping both times to say I was active, only when I spotted on the POTA website did it do that
