Was that before Boris said it will run it’s course? Then the panic when China started to get a handle on it. His hesitation cost us dearly, we were shown to be 1-2 weeks behind the curve. I thought it was inevitable at the time but when missed cobra meetings and pandemic response plans were cut/suspended it started to look like a scared government looking to cover their ass and reacted by throwing money at the economy to ensure they gave more support than that in other countries, notably Germany... the conservative governments since the Brexit referendum really don’t understand their responsibility to the country, we deserve better. We used to be an example to the world on being led by great statesmen, now we despise them for minor slights and prefer salesmen with nothing to sell.

What a strange and horrible time. I clearly remember the day Boris was admitted to intensive care. I walked around my garden, anxious and unable to sit down, I was certain he wouldn't survive and I recall the feeling of this virus being out of control and no person, however important, could be protected. I wondered if my two young children (1 and 5 at tge time) would ever return to having a normal childhood where they went to school and saw their friends. The thought that they may not made me feel physically sick and it felt bizarre that things taken for granted were so far out of reach. I couldn't sleep at night and would often go out walking by myself for hours, just trying to take my mind off it

    • @markbanner6473

Announced by whom? A minister never announced it. Many people are confused on this. It initially came up when the CSO answered a specific question from the media, and within that answer he talked about herd immunity. Among other things he went on to say it naturally happens to some degree no matter what you do. No one put it into policy, it was merely something put on the table among everything else by the Scientists.

There are so many factors to take into account, age range, population density and there's a lot about the virus that no one knows. Such as the ideal temperature, humidity etc...

100 days and we still haven't had any clarification on how many people have died WITH the virus and how many have died BECAUSE OF the virus. When 'suspected' cases are recorded as covid 19 deaths, without testing and when people who present with symptoms aren't always tested, we have no idea of the mortality or infection rates. A way of controlling the population, or just plain incompetence, or willful deceit? Whichever it is, this whole affair has been a disaster for the economy and for grieving families, who have little idea of the cause of their loved ones' deaths.

It wasn't the end of January it came to the UK... We got hit by it back in late November, the governments just didn't share information in Nov and Dec until it got bigger in China that it couldn't be avoided mentioning and China themselves also hid it from the rest of the world and still allowed planes to leave their country. Lots of people locally including myself got ill at the end of December and new year with a corona based virus with extreme fevers and chested coughs that left pneumonia symptoms.
After visiting my family locally (No one had travelled long distance or countries) I became very weak and my voice went horsey, the next day I went into a high temperature which included very strong muscle and bone aches. I would sleep for 12 hours be awake in pain for an hour take meds and go to sleep. This lasted 6 days and from there my chest became worse continuously coughing up flem from my lungs which took 3 weeks before finally ending.
Due to how severe it was I didn't go outside the whole of January to avoid spreading to my friends, only after recovering finding out about Covid-19 "entering" the UK.
Completely willing to take antibody test if given, I haven't had any symptoms for anything since that date. It could give more insight into how far the virus moved and adjusting currently known data values

I was on my way to work yesterday, I do industrial cleaning while factories are closed (especially on days like V day and Bank Holidays) walking to my pick up, behind a older gent on his afternoon walk, some idiot on a bycicle trying to squeeze down the very same foot path when the road is empty and he had the gull to call me a idiot for socially distancing myself from the old man, not for my safety but his!
