In this instalment we take a look at subduction, briefly how it creates new crust while destroying old and, by looking at the devastating 2011 events in Japan, the triggering of huge earthquakes. This is the second in a series of short films on the tectonics of E Asia, made to enhance the geology for viewers of the BBC's Race Across the World 2024 series (but not made by the BBC!).
