  • Greetings All,
Another first here at Restomod Daisy as we explore a fairly rare Daisy Model 140 Defender hailing all the way back to 1942. This gun was a limited run of 28,000 or so that Daisy stopped production of as a result of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor at the commencement of World War 2. It was one of the first wide body Daisy's that incorporated the Lighting Loader feature pioneered by the Daisy #108 Model 39, a windage and elevation adjustable rear sight and a distinctive bolt action safety!
    Thanks for watching!

Having replaced the leather seals in my model 140 Defender, with great trepidation, I can tell you that I was equally perplexed by the proper re-assembly of the trigger and bolt action safety. It took me 5 attempts to get it right. There is certainly nothing comparable on any other Daisy model. You may have already reassembled by the time you read this comment, but one detail I recall was that the long leg of the sear spring rested against the front of the stock as the stock was reinstalled, that is how that spring is tensioned.

A most unusual design, thanks for showing it !
Looking at the breakdown on JG’s site, it shows the barrel band in place without a separate part number, so looks like it was either spotted after assembly, or placed before the front sight was peened on (either way, looks like it’s there for keeps). Looking forward to the next video, that trigger/sear/safety arrangement looks like a real head-scratcher…but still very cool !

I'm going with the placed before the Barrel Band was peened in place. I'll be putting up another video on the trigger, looks complex at first but turns out to be another LeFever success in simplicity.

What a cool bb gun. I have seen a few of these on the old Fleabay, but just like the model 21s, I will never own one. Your shop floor must be cleaner than mine, or your Daughter must have some tough bare feet 0:35 . Great video.

Interesting that they used a bottle cap with the cover tang AND the spoon tab on the shot tube. Later guns hav one or the other. Also. Nice to know that the bolt isn't just there for looks. Back then safeties we're pretty uncommon, I think.

I wish there was a record of the marketing meeting where they decided to add the bolt action safety. Was the primary focus having a safety or was the look of the bolt action "Military" rifle the driving force. They managed to get both done.

@@jimmybruce2584 Hmmmm. Makes ya' wonder if Mr LeFever had any influence on that? 🤔
