The first time I played the Silver Sky was at guitar center and I was blown away. I played another one at a different GC to make sure it wasn’t that one guitar and I was still amazed by it. Ended up buying the polar blue color with maple neck and it immediately became my number one, I absolutely love it. I think the people who caused this guitar to be so controversial are just John Mayer haters and clearly have never played the guitar

    • @thanhhuynh2044

Can you hate john mayer and like the SS? Nah dont hate john, just not really aware of his songs. Do know he is an amazing guitarist. I played the polar blue one and holy cow!
Bout 15yrs ago me and my friend were talking saying that, for us, we didnt like the fender neck. If there would be a strat body with PRS neck, that would be amazing. Who knew?
SS neck feels amazing, and it is a lightweight 👏🏽 love the dodgem and rose versions

I just bought this guitar this week in that color with that fret board. Got it yesterday. Waited the 24 hours for it to adapt to the climate, so I haven't actually got to play it yet. But, so glad to hear another player loves it. I can't wait to actually play it.

I'm always amazed at how rosewood vs maple fretboard sound so different. It's almost like you get a sub woofer tone from the rosewood that's just not there with the maple. Very deep low end is the difference I think.

I didn't really want to like the Silver Sky. But, I'll admit it's a hell of a good guitar with possibly the best sounding set of single coil pickups I've ever played.

There's a sharpness and lack of gutsiness to the maple. doesn't have that deep warmth (think SRVs little wing) there's absolutely a difference.

6:51 vs 14:03 (sounds the same to me). I think one sentence he points out is the real key difference: "when you have a rosewood neck it makes you playing different than when you have a maple neck". This visual/taste/touch of the guitar is what makes you play different somehow. It inspires you differently. But if you decide to play exclactly the same, you won't note any difference.
"Rosewood is darker, warmer, etc". That may also be your brain cheating you. I can 100% ensure that a full rosewood neck is more bright than a full maple neck. Maybe just the fretboard is different, but a full rosewood neck is brighter than a maple one. That is a fact. Our brain cheates us by our eyes "dark wood = more warm", "light wood = bright sound" and it is in fact the opposite in this case (I guess the real thing is "the denser the wood is the brighter it sounds". So from warm to bright would be "maple > rosewood > ebony".
Anyway...seems our eyes are cheating us, so how cares.

I am really liking the maple version and will try one out next opportunity. There are however a couple of things I don’t like; one is the lack of a hardshell case at the price point. The other are the ugly bird inlays. PRS please offer dots like you used to offer on the McCarty, CE24 and others and save the birds for the fancy flamed/curly top models.

Most people refer to satin as unfinished, just because you can’t really feel any of the lacquer.

@@n.g.9705 Well, those people need to change their terminology cuz they're technically wrong. If "Satin" finish wasn't a thing then yes they're correct, but in this case they're not.

The maple just looks a bit more special to me. IMO having another brand strat style guitar is all good. Having more choice is great and keeps the quality bar high as manufacturers compete for our custom. Sounds great through the Maz

It's always the same for me. Maple sounds nicer in clean sounds, cleaner and warmer in a way. Rosewood sounds sweeter but a bit more rough around the edges, and this edginess comes to life on overdrive where it sounds punchier. I don't know most of the times I'll pick maple on a strat

I have the very rare JM nebula obviously with a rosewood fretboard...but I love how the maple neck looks & I've always preferred maple fretboards
