I saw him play a few years back and had my jaw hit the ground several times. What an awesome Entertainer and a heck of a nice guy. You really wish they were more around like him, but there is only one Junior Brown.
I saw him once too and was also blown away. Just the mechanics of how he works that rig, going back and forth between the tele and the steel, how he so fluidly grabbed the steel's slide out of it's holder, and then put it back, without every dropping it, and throwing the switch to change between the two at the same time. That alone was amazing to me. As a player he is absolutely jaw dropping. He is one of those players who what you see is definitely NOT what you hear. They just don't sync up.
That's so cool that JR. Brown would just walk away and give those guys his instrument. He comes from a generation where musicians tried to help each other and learn from each other instead of trying to upstage each other on you tube. This kind of collaborative effort should be encouraged to younger players.
wow!!!!!!! wish I had been there. my home state has been so blessed with great musical talent, The Vaughn Bros, Jr Brown, ZZ Top, Willie, Kris Kristofferson, Buddy Holly. Janis Joplin. And so many others.
All that talent on one stage. At Antones. The place where it really started for this run. Jimmie, Red And Junior. Simply F'n Awesome! Thanks for this vid posting.
You can have the Grammys...I'll take talent over flash any day! These are some fine musicians..They'll never get the recognition like they deserve but WOW!! they can play and have fun..And isn't that what it's all about..
@@peterottes6900 actually I said it wrong. It’s supposed to be ‘little gold plated paper weight’ and it’s from a song called “Carl Perkins’ Cadillac” by Drive By Truckers. Basically calling Grammys empty compared to talent and hard work.
@@williama5550 Yeah, they were great, but absolutely ZERO threat to Junior. I felt they were really thrown off by the guitar being on a stand up rig, especially at first.
I've had the great good fortune to see all three of these fine musicians...though all were separate shows. The time I saw Redd, he was playing with the great Bill Kirchen, in northern Virginia...so make that FOUR Guitar Gods ! My cup runneth over !
Antones is THE place in Austin for top notch musicians. Always a fantastic time. And I used to watch Junior Brown for free at the Continental club on congress Ave. for free at happy hour..... Austin is like no other city for music...
They're having so much damned fun!!! I've always been envious of talented musicians like them!!! In a good way though, cause they're damned fun to watch perform too!!!
I used to love the online brawls between Jimmy and Dick Dale. It was so hard to work out if they were real. It's nice to hear Jimmy sing though, because his voice is a lot like his late brother's, the man who played so well that people didn't notice how well he sang.
I seen the thumbnail and was like "damn I ain't ever seen JR without his custom suit and hat before. Damn he got big too. Wth is going on?" What a cool jam session though. Awesome. Them boys were rockin man!!!!!!
Redd was hand picked several years ago by Roy Nichols the original guitar player of Mere Haggard's band the Strangers to be his replacement when he retired. Out of all the pickers on the planet, he was picked. Merle is picky with his band members too.Redd is awesome as you can tell.
3 guys living life.Been a long time since I have hung out with either Jimmy or Jr .Perhaps I need to get down to Austin.👍🔥🎶🎶🎶😵💫🤨👏✌️ Guit-steelin' da show 😎
If these 3, srv , willie and zz top had been at the Alamo on March 6, 1836, the Mexicans woulda broke out the tequila and cerveza and cooked a bunch of beens and then went home to Mexico!!!!!!!!!!
Believe it or not, Redd Volkaert is better than both of them... you can hear him throw in some real jazz, flatted fifths, etc... you can see they both just lay out and let Redd take it for a long time... a musician's musician... not to take away from Junior's schtick at all. Now Jimmy.... he's lucky to have friends like that.
scowell not sure if he is better or not but it was sloppy. accuracy is always better than more notes. and jimmy tries but SRV was far and beyond him. junoir has a unique style that i like.
They were great, but there were also quite a few iffy notes, JR's guitar seems to be throwing them off a bit, especially early on. They seemed to be getting used to it by the end.

I was at this show! Watch out for Red cause he will show you how much you have to learn.
I MISS OLD AUSTIN!
I am truly blessed to live in Austin. Shows like this can be seen pretty much any night of the week. Beautiful stuff.

Heh heh, this is the first time I've seen anyone besides Jr. play that instrument! ;)
WHY!?!!? WHY?? WHY IN THE HELL would anyone hit dislike on this phenomenal shit??
wow!!!!!!! wish I had been there. my home state has been so blessed with great musical talent, The Vaughn Bros, Jr Brown, ZZ Top, Willie, Kris Kristofferson, Buddy Holly. Janis Joplin. And so many others.
JohnMagillM dont ever forget the winter bros
I saw Junior at a Johnny Winter show soaking it in.
All that talent on one stage. At Antones. The place where it really started for this run. Jimmie, Red And Junior. Simply F'n Awesome!

I think they are quite wellknown word wide.

Sam Phillips didn't need no plastic paper weight.
@@professornuke7562 What would you be referring to?

Now that's an old time jam there, love it
JB Brown, my 1st Steel Guitar teacher back in 1977.78..Great C6 player..
No ego tripping there. Junior the consummate gentlemen. Letting them all gig on his Guit-Steel. Salud Junior! "The Hendrix of Twang"
True. He don't mind them playing his rig because he isn't scared.
@@williama5550 Yeah, they were great, but absolutely ZERO threat to Junior. I felt they were really thrown off by the guitar being on a stand up rig, especially at first.
Absolutely incredible. Loved this. You don't see this every day.
True it's all in the art of the player! One guitar just blew me away!

Guitar playing at its most free and a joy to behold.

Holy shit these guys are good, I didn't think anybody could get these sounds out of this guitar besides Junior, especially the guy with no face.
They're having so much damned fun!!! I've always been envious of talented musicians like them!!! In a good way though, cause they're damned fun to watch perform too!!!
This is just flat out cool....wish I had been there.
TRUE MUSICIANS HAVING AT IT NO ATTITUDE PURE FUN.

Red sounds like a jazz influenced blues player.
Driving that audience wild.
Love how Redd gave it a li'l bit of Wes right out the gate.
If these 3, srv , willie and zz top had been at the Alamo on March 6, 1836, the Mexicans woulda broke out the tequila and cerveza and cooked a bunch of beens and then went home to Mexico!!!!!!!!!!
+Steve Stringer You do realize that Texas was part of Mexico back then right?
So they would have been going home to?? Texas?
rrtodd95 Yes Tehas!
Steve Stringer Wiw Gringo, give the lsnd back to the native americans you stole it from.

Wow. Red is Gattonizing this one.

I think Red heard some Wes one time.
love it.
Wes Starr "Yeah!"
Redd makes the guitsteel look small.
JUNIOOORRRRRR !!!!!!!!!!!
Is it me, or does JR. Brown look like a slightly older Kiefer Sutherland ? Lol !
You know, it could be. Have never seen them together.
:D
I think he looks more like a younger Rodney Dangerfield.
He's got to be over 50 if this is from 2006
Who's the big bearded guy? He can hold his own with Jimmy and Junior. What an awesome jam session!

This isn't the million dollar quartet, but lets call it the half-million trio.

Old Hippie Approved
They were great, but there were also quite a few iffy notes, JR's guitar seems to be throwing them off a bit, especially early on. They seemed to be getting used to it by the end.
