    Design House Neon 52" ceiling fan in chrome/clear (plexiglass), still in original box. Here it's shown in operation both with and without the neon light on. This fan is among my most significant childhood fans, it was always my absolute favorite fan on display at my local Mills Fleet Farm store. My favorite version is more like the traditional King of Fans version with differing blade arms and wider blades (probably was the same exact thing relabeled), but any neon fan of this general form is significant to me. It's not incredible in the air movement department, actually pretty decent all things considered, but I think the older versions probably did better with the slightly wider blades and likely greater pitch. There is a bit of wobble here, I didn't do any balancing because clearly weights would ruin the appearance of the clear blades. It was super fun to pull this one out again! I've had it in the box for nearly six years since the last video, not pulled out one single time since then, so it was awesome to finally revisit.

    My neighbor who's moving soon has a Hampton Bay Cameron 2 Plus with a green neon

    Makes me miss mine. Mine had a problem one day and sparked from the canopy. I got mad and lost 90% of the parts. I will probably never find them all again so hopefully i can get another down the road

    You could put some weights on blade arms to calm down the wobble. That's what I did to my relative's Hampton Bay Minuet II by putting some pennies on blade arms which did calm down the wobble. You can also try to somehow put some weights on part of blade arms where blades mount to and they won't be seen, but it would have to be shape of weight that would fit between blade arms and blades.

      Honestly I think changing the order of the blades would do it, since it didn't really wobble before, but yes there are other ways. I'm under such time constraints right now to get videos made that I don't have the time to play around with those details. If I can't balance it in less than five minutes with blade weights, it's as good as it gets lol.

      By the way, is the new owner going to see those drawing on the wall?

    • @vfandm
      @vfandm  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably. I hadn't planned on painting over them.

      Yeah, you can let new owner choose what color they want wall to be if they want to paint it.

    What an awesome piece! Seems like its got plenty of power to it.. When did they stop making these?

    • @vfandm
      @vfandm  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Plenty of power, could use more pitch. Overall decent for what it is though, not complaining. I'm not sure exactly when it was discontinued, mid-2000s would be my absolute guess.

    HEY! Metal Pete just picked up one of these for me. What do you think for the museum, this or Quorum Prizzm? Either will have a chrome Gulf Coast (to annoy Tom) spotlight kit with blue LED bulbs.

    • @vfandm
      @vfandm  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't believe he posted that in the group the exact same day I put mine up for this video. I would honestly say this version, actually my favorite would be the legit King of Fans version, but this style at least. Prizzm is cool, but I don't find it to be as interesting.

    • @dspiffy
      @dspiffy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, but I prefer this version over KoF, mainly because DH is a big childhood brand and I have no affection for KoF.
      Perfect example of a fan I would have not have cared about before the museum. His Metalness saw it and left it, I was like WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!

    • @vfandm
      @vfandm  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will agree that I like Design House for childhood reasons, I just don't like these blade arms and wish Design House wouldn't have switched to them in more recent years. Much prefer the earlier ones with wider blades and standard arms with bars, which is why I also prefer the KoF version over the newer Design House ones.

    • @dspiffy
      @dspiffy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is there an issue with these blade arms? I like the horseshoe look better.

    • @vfandm
      @vfandm  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No issue, other than the fact that I don't think there's a single fan ever that I've loved this style of horseshoe blade arm on. Not to be confused with other horseshoe styles, I like R&M horseshoe for example. It's just this very generic style that seemed to proliferate among cheap models in the 90s, I feel like it's a visual downgrade for this fan personally speaking. Overall they look fine though, whatever floats your boat when it comes to the museum.

    Where can I buy the clear blades? They look dope 🙂

      I don't know of any manufacturer still selling classic style clear blades like this.

    What is it made of? Glass?

    • @vfandm

      Plexiglass (plastic) as denoted in the description.

    Are you still interested in a KoF one? I have a lead on some NIB. I need to know ASAP.

    • @vfandm
      @vfandm  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not entirely craving one. I like them best, but I'm not on the hunt for them.

    • @dspiffy
      @dspiffy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I can get you one NIB for $50 plus shipping do you want it?

    • @vfandm
      @vfandm  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm assuming blue neon? I don't want to pay that much for blue even NIB since I already have the DH version, I'd probably do $50 for pink...

    • @dspiffy
      @dspiffy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok. I'll probably pass then.
      Is your number still the same? I've been trying to call you to discuss some Fanimation stuff. Some of it is time sensitive.

    I have one without the C brackets, the neon doesn't work sadly.

    • @zacharychall-hutchinson6720
      @zacharychall-hutchinson6720 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brian Lee can't you replace the neon bulb?

    • @vfandm
      @vfandm  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would likely be expensive as I think replacement parts are obsolete and a custom lamp would need to be created, but it's also potentially a little more difficult than that. It's not necessarily the tube that has failed, there are electronics in the switch housing that basically act as a ballast which could've failed. In any case it could likely be fixed, but it's not as easy as opening up the housing and swapping the lamp with another stock off the shelf.

    • @brianlee4811
      @brianlee4811 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vintage Fans & More Yeah, I was thinking the transformer might have probably failed or something unfortunately.

    • @vintagefancollector1436
      @vintagefancollector1436 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neon transformers are the easiest to grab ahold of. If the tube is broken, you have to have an entire new one created.

    • @vfandm
      @vfandm  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Finding the unit specifically designed to fit into the switch housings of these fans though? Nearly impossible to get ahold of, you'd likely have to attempt repair of the components. I think one of the replacement parts sites had them listed, but I remember that from years ago and haven't looked recently.
