Watching this again 'cause it popped into my TH-cam suggestions. I think it's my favourite Justin song lesson, purely for the knowing nod to the camera as Justin takes the acoustic. Makes me laugh every time.

TC Electronic Ditto looper, I'm using it a lot lately, not any fancy features but easy to use and 9v power which is much more convenient than my Boomerang looper which uses a wall wart...

This is THE song that got me interested in finally learning guitar a few years ago WELL past my teen years. I have learned it and can play it easily enough, but I really like your video and the special variations on the chords. Now I have something to strive for with those variations. THANKS!

I been watching / leaning with justinguitar since 2006 I love the lessons and entertainment does it for me every time. Though his website is entirely free learning; I have bought all the DVD courses and books as well that is excellent value for the money. The first song learning video I saw was “Wish You Were Here” I left a comment to say he should be in a band. A short time afterwards exploring his website I saw he was in Katie Melua’s band; that he had taught her to play guitar.

Great tutorial for this song - so much more detail than the vast majority of guitar tutorials on YT. Also, that acoustic has a beautiful sound!
One small thing I picked up on: in the base G - D - C - D chord progression, for the final D I just use my thumb for the low F#, which enables me to still play the high F# on the top E string. Super easy.

A pro-tip is if you analyze the relationship between the two chord fingerings, your ring finger on the 2nd string/3rd fret should remain a constant between the two shapes.
If you then think of the ring finger as an anchor in this simple progression, pivoting between Cadd9>D>Cadd9>D(etc) should become much more comfortable as you practice.

Hi justin this is a great lesson ,never really heard of the song but its a great tune . Question is though as it is a long stretch with the pinky finger as i don't really have long fingers i was wondering what you think of instead of playing the 2nd fret E , playing the 5th fret B string , it sounds ,as i have played it instead of the 2nd fret E that it still fits the melody . i would love some feedback

looking at the original video of the La's doing this tune, it looks like the opening riff is played using a shift of the hand position as opposed to a reach of the pinky finger. i haven't had a chance to try that yet. i can do the riff like it's done here but i wonder if the shift would be easier....?

Justin, first of all, thanks for uploading this video. Its a beautiful song, and your tips are very helpful. But I do have one question, at 8:44, you said to move one's fingers to the 2nd fret of the 3rd string, but then , when you go through the finger positions for each string, it seemed like you said to leave the 3rd string open. I was just wondering if I understood you correctly. Thanks, rock on.
