I remember this store and actually live not far from it. Seeing the inside really flashed me back to when it went out. I was there for the store closing sale. Thanks for exploring. Kind of brings back the childhood. - Levi
Nice explore of this old Kmart! I'd say at 9:30, that very likely would've been the old electronics department for sure. I agree with you, in thinking beforehand this would be in worser shape than it was!
That's probability the closest video I could find that looks like the one in my town. Since its been closed since 2002 there probably were kids that went in and vandalized somehow, there were only a few spray painted words but I think after like five years they blocked everything and there are many no trespassing signs. one day I went up through the garbage disposal with my buds and there was a room with pictures of kids from high school and people wrote stuff about how if you're in this room your probably the victim on a prank. There was a metal door that I guess kids went through to get inside but there was a chain blocking it and it looked new. The next day we went back with wrenches and got the nuts off so the door was open a crack on the bottom so we went through that. The place was gutted and there was nothing there and there was leaking water on every meter of the building. That was the worst shape I've ever seen a place. There was crumbling insulation that had gotten wet and covered the floor. It was the kind you would usually see in a sports complex for soccer. There was an upstairs too which shocked me. I'm really happy that you uploaded this because there is nothing like a place like this.
I just uploaded an abandoned k mart video in PA. your video is definitely cooler then mine. I found your video on the side with related videos. thumbs up for exploring abandoned videos
I wonder why they tear out the floor and ceiling tiles... They must have done it with a former Super Kmart in Virginia Beach, because Walmart didn't bother to do anything but put in new coolers for food and lighting...and of course their shelving and displays. It still screams former Super Kmart even though it's now Walmart
They close Kmarts one in Charlotte Michigan but it's sold 5 different businesses divided about to Pebbles andSporting Goods store and AT&T and phone place and fitness center Farmers lawn and garden.
Cool video. That was smart of you wearing protective gear to be safe from all the mold and asbestos. But I'd suggest taking a buddy with you or a team next time. You never know what kind of people squat in these abandoned places. Just for your own safety.
So it was only in use for about 8 years or less? That's terrible. Wonder if the building was even paid off before it went belly up. My new Kmart was built in 1992 but they just closed December of 2016 but not because of the usual store cuts but because the owner of the building was charging so much for rent per month that they just decided to shut it down because it was so ridiculous, like $100,000 a month.
Viper Jay 5 Whenever Kmart went bankrupt, they stopped caring. Unprofitable stores were closing left and right. Surprisingly, many super kmarts were on that list. If they had continued to build more super kmarts, maybe they wouldn't be where they are now.
jmanx360 The big issue with Kmart was when instead of investing in themselves, they were investing in other companies (Borders, The Sports Authority, Office Max, and Sears). Had they invested more in themselves, Kmart would likely be still in line with Walmart and Target today.
Looked like it was nice at one time, the roof must be in awful shape with all those ceiling tiles piled up and mold everywhere.Do you know of any plans for this huge store?
John Rich check out the other video of this Kmart and you might be able to determine the roof's condition from the drone footage. As far as I know, there aren't any plans for this place and it's been empty for 15 years. I'm not sure if it's still for sale. The for sale signs are still on site but various websites list it as being off market.
Surprisingly if you go on Google Street view, something has been done with the building recently. The front was repainted and it seems like the interior was probably cleaned out as well.
@@jmanx360 Mostly Likely used for storage for a Carpet Mill my dad works for one and he said some carpet mills do by these building to store there extra carpet.
That K-mart could reopen tomarrow and it would no one would ever know it had been closed. They were all dumps. How come you did not go in the backroom where all the offices and would have been? Thanks for the video.
Hey there, you haven't posted in 2 years . This is the kid you met at Lakemont park I had fun talking with you. Just wanted to see if we could talk more.
Yeah, it was great talking to you! Follow me on Instagram @jmanx360. I don't really post anymore because it's so much effort to edit video and I don't get paid anymore.
problems with kmart they buying sale every retail out like builder square office max and boarder sport authority lately one buying sears at start new company sears holding. kmart didn't invest in there own store which bite them in there ass
No warehouse tour? Disappointing. Would like to see where K-Mart inventory employees worked in. The trailer bays. An attic maybe. Electrical room. Trash compactor door. Would be interesting.
Anthony Roberts A: This isn't breaking and entering. It's trespassing. B: Yes, I am aware of the penalties if caught. C: Tell that to EVERY OTHER URBAN EXPLORATION CHANNEL ON TH-cam!
Yes, it is trespassing, but you're doing nothing more than filming. You're not destroying stuff or anything else harmful. I for one liked watching this and am glad you took the risk. It's just so sad to see a store that was probably all packed full of people at one time to be reduced to this state.

cool
jmanx360 how it smells like?
Awesome vid man. Thanks for filming this!

there was vandalism but I liked the fact that there didn't seem to be any spray paint vandalism anywhere
The broken windows were from some teenagers who broke in last summer to skateboard.
I can't believe how much this building decayed in just 18 years.
I think it actually got turned into a storage place lol
@@jmanx360 my Kmart was turned into a U-Haul my Kmart closed in July 2020
It looks like one of the actual cash registers left in place NOT just a checkstand.

Wonder what was in the back storage area, but nice video. glad you at least went in and checked it out!
I regret not going back there but I probably won't be going in that Kmart again.
jmanx360 I'd feel the same way. I get nervous too when I explore things because it's trespassing and afraid of getting caught
It would probably be too risky to go back there again and it's kinda far from my house.
robbiepayne97 its just a small fine though if caught

Did this Kmart still have power?
Planet Gaming I didn't try to turn it on, so I'm not sure.
Where in Lafayette GA is this? What is it close too?
Some Channel On TH-cam it's on North Main where it splits off to the bypass. Kinda near O'Reilly's.

jmanx360 oooh I think I know where you’re talking about now
Thanks a bunch for this. :D
It’s been one year, is this Kmart location still abandoned? Maybe you should check it out again. Please respond me back
Urban Exploration not sure, I don’t live there anymore.
Some Factory owns it now and they repainted the store.

When did this Kmart close
2002
dude they are opening a new store in the same place

Andy Fonseca I thought I might get caught, find a squatter, or breath in too much black mold
If i were in there alone, i would be so scared
Josh pandolf asmr?
did you break the glass
Beth Edwards no, watch the other video for the explanation on that.
What's the point in doing this?
