My first show was about six weeks later, 7/31/74, Dillon Stadium, Hatford, CT. The Wall of Sound. Jerry beardless, Phil with mountain man beard. No Mickey. The New Riders played first, with the Dead's old Tie Dyed PA. A buddy and I hitched from Setauket, LI, to Hartford. We got picked up by a dead head ice cream man for the last leg to the show. I distinctly recall dancing to Brown Eyed Women. I was 16 years old. I 'd never heard of grenadine! Thanks for this excellent upload!
@thenazarite2444 71 to 76 Mickey's father Lenny managed the band for a while and embezzled a substantial amount of money. After Lenny disappeared Mickey took a sabbatical. The song "He's Gone" is about Lenny Hart.
Chris Kirshbaum and Jahmen RC. I agree with you as well. Billy's drumming was not heavy-handed at all, yet he did manage to get his licks in, within the context of the band, of course.
@@thenazarite2444Mickey left in February 71 and came back October 74. He left after his father ripped off the band. The song He’s Gone is all about the father.
only the Dead could seamlessly morph from pure psychedelia to Miles inspired jazz all resolved with a jacked rock and roll money shot. Dead at their quixotic best
Live Dead was the album, a double-record, their first live release. Just wanted to say the mandalas in this video are great, really good posting all in all.
Hey Now You get em! I have this on a 23 year old metal TDK Cassete bootleg tape that I'm afraid to play any more and I only had about 3/4 of the jam thanks so much! sweet
memorial day jam will be memorial in my life , thank you Mahalo for the post cool beans Brah , soaring sideways through the universe......... Raybann Austin Texas....
Wall of Sound. This copy sounds a whole lot better than the tape is used to have. Even though my copy was old; heavily worn and probably about eighth or ninth generation copy, I played it to death. Its definitely a monster. I can't verify this but it sounds like quite a bit of mind expansion was going on.
dennis campbell ya those dead tapes by the ton, such a good thing then, tapes but now this rec, its so much better and we did use those tapes up big time wear n tare, what a ride music has taken in quality/...good travels my friend enjoy the music, its all good,,,,good day, safe day,God bless u!
I just checked my tape list. Seems I have a 4th gen SBD of the entire show! Wow! Glad I didn't opt to dump my tapes like so many others I know have done! Dick's Picks and Dave's Picks are great no doubt but they don't have Jai-Alai Fronton *yet*. (~);}
How could you possibly dislike this incredible mind expansion? Breathe with me...
i love when i stumble into the live dead section of youtube

Just smoked and now I'm floating away with the Dead✌️
This was the first song I heard by the Grateful Dead while I was riding Albert Hoffman's bike for the first time. July 10, 1989. I was 16
Hoffmanns bike came by and I got on lol

This jam is the perfect example of why Billy only + Keith was the best Dead lineup
No Micky? How long did this line up last?
absolutely 100% true.

Chris Kirshbaum couldn't agree with you more bro!

Kreutzman can swing like a motherfucker...no doubt about it!

Robert! Great description and observation by you! Very well spoken old boy!
18:14 Weir teasing Weather Report Suite before deciding on Spanish Jam. This is why I love the Dead.
I'm listening for it, but can't hear WRS. It almost sounds a little bit like Lost Sailor. Am I crazy?
Actually sounds a little more like Quicksilver's Calvary me thinks.
They played WRS in the first set, so no teasing this time :)
He totally teased it...just one line, then Spanish Jam becomes clear
I caught a little Slipknot tease from Keith around 4:15 as well.
OMG Phil on Dark Star and Spanish Jam
Gives Me GOOSEBUMPS
what bit?
The dead never ceases to amaze me.
so true....had this on cassette aswell.. tried so hard to conserve this treasure..
The masters of musical transition at it again ----> US Blues!
Ladies and gentlemen we are now floating through space...

This is INSANE. I can't believe this!

Quin Wise I'm here for all of Spanish jam and then us blues!

Thanks for the dreams that turned into reality.

What do you mean? Mind expansion as in they were heavily dosed?
@@mrwhosmynameagainPhil dosed every show I’ve heard
@@Justdon-s2s yeah rightttt that would be thousands of times!
People were probably too mesmerized by the music to comment.
And letting it all come down.
Dark Star was a single b/w Born Cross-Eyed. That would put it Anthem of the Sun era. But didn't appear on the album.
Jerry was the psychedelia in person. Proud his origins were spanish.
Don't feel proud of you nation fella
Holy Fuck...
With Neg Lagin on much of this !
There is a 1% chance, but if anybody can link me to a poster of the picture at 20:50, i will be eternally grateful
berry berry goo
An ad, in the middle of Darkstar, c'mon now...smh
They are the Dead, but they play Live.
Go Klytus Go Klytus!

COMO MOLA!!!
he didn't use those words in the same sentence ;)
what album is Dark Star on?
Live/Dead is the first official live album released in Nov. of 1969. On it you will find a very fine Dark Star!
It's because the first set is better!
Jerry's my nigga!
There is actually a studio version of the song released as a single in '68. It's like... 2 and a half minutes long and, frankly, kinda sucks.
Yeah, The Dead is better live
I liked it. kinda like the golden road to unlimited devotion, its kinda cute.
