Now that it's 2023 and Tamiya have announced they're going to release this once again, I really want one! Look so good and after watching this I think I will have to risk everything and get one LOL
Great looking car.
The colors match Perfect.
One of the best looking Tamiyas
got a hornet a while back, loved building it and I’m definitely gonna pick up one of these
Built this car back in 1988 or so. Still have it.
Just ran my Boomerang last weekend and it was a blast! 😁
Yep it’s a fun drive
Wow. Built this car as a kid. Can’t believe they rereleased it. Great video just careful with brushless. The font diffs need metal gears or those diffs will be strip before you know it. Great video and great collection.
My first Tamiya bought 2nd hand when I was a teenager (and I still have it!) it has full ballraces and the SuperShot twin shocks(better looking than the BigWig?). Treated it to a new body last year and will do a full nut and bolt restore at some stage. I have all its family members as well. (HS, HSII, SS, BIGWIG, SSabre and even a custom Winger) Would add a pic of the collection but not sure you can.
You got to love the boomerang.. It was my 2nd proper rc car, the mighty hornet being the first.. I restored/rebuilt both cars to mint/new condition before they were re-released,so cost a bit😆🤑😢.. Although they are restored to running condition with period electrics i don't🤣.. when they were re-released I got those to run.. As for a first car to restore I couldn't agree more as parts are not like hens teeth anymore, unless you go down the original route then they become more rare and expensive🤣🤣.. So this or the hornet/grasshopper for a 2wd are perfect👍👍
it was great fun back in the day
I can get onboard with that is a good way to get into a Tamiya kit, and your correct finding vintage parts is getting harder. I’ve never been overly keen on the plastic kits myself, however the Grasshopper is my favorite vintage mid 80’s kit it was affordable and was just simple a great runner and trashing about buggy. I love the early kits sand scorcher/ roughrider, Frog myself.
Frog is my favourite. The Grasshopper is a classic gateway 2WD starter car as well.
Had one!! great car!
Just pre-ordered for the 2023 re-release batch. My wallet hates that you had this video to help me pull the trigger!
You are most welcome Adam ;)
One of my favorite RC 👍👍👍
Nice 👍 I might look at a re release
I got to agree it looks Great
Fresh and so Clean plus the option to try for OG car ,or rere
So that has to make didn't price bracket! And I could not do it to a OG ,but in a rere dropping a bushless motor that !You know You make alot of sense, That Great advice for what I get my core RC Up to par I'd love to take on restoration I would probably have to go Rere not brushless Try making It as sharp as the OG Fresh and Clean Car u have ! One day I got to get in the sky Before any thing! Great episode Have good Evening
Good recommendation and topic
Thanks 🙏🏻
I Love TAMIYA RC's and actually just bought a Boomerang (rere) I have wanted one for a long time, back in the day I had a SuperShot now the Super HotShot sadly don't have the original but do own a Super HotShot.
Love the Boomerang. Got mine up to 49mph😃 I need to revisit that car and get it up to 60 or 70mph. That would be be pretty impressive.
LOL Nice 🚗 💨
This car just keeps coming back 😂

@RCKickschannel 😆 I was also thinking the car was like triggers broom arang. Only fools 😆
In 1987 I got a Boomerang for my 10th birthday, later that year I got stopped with it at airport security in Costa Rica because they thought my tapped up 7.2v battery was a bomb and of course i dont speak a word of Spanish. 😂🇦🇺
😂🤣
What are those little tamiya cars to your left? They are cool as.
The boomerang was my 1st tamiya 👌🏻
Mine too, unfortunately.
which one do you recommend between Boomerang, BigWig, NovaFox, and Grasshopper. considering the maintenance aspect and up-grading the buggy. I plan to get one of those but i got confused since i'm new to RC, thank you, Cheers
Triggers Broom comes to mind 😏
LOL almost. I kept the vintage chassis but yes it did almost end up like that lol.
Great video.
Did you race one tenth scale back in the 80s and early 90s?
lol
Awesome
What are your thoughts on the thunder Dragon and the fire Dragon?
i had this car long long time ago
I’m currently restoring an original Boomerang and I don’t know weather to run it on a mechanical or electronic speed controller
The boomerang was my first. Had a demon motor in it but it still was slow and trickle charging batteries over night for 5 minute run time was a pain.
What would you recommend as the best kit to build for fun and hop ups? I am interested in a super shot, top force (and then go evo) and dark impact. Thanks!
Maybe try a tamiya super hotshot bud
My original Boomerang I had in 1987 was an incredible piece of shit. Never worked right and was slow as can be. It was pretty sturdy though.
Is it possible to find this. I am 47 y old . I bought when I was 14 (1988). I race a lot of times with boomerang.
Getting harder to find since that video came out but yes, you can still find the rere kits around.
If this a rebuild with new parts then how can you call it a 1986 original model ?
Sorry for the delay. The chassis is still the vintage one as is all the electronics. Kind of like how if you kept the chassis and engine from a real car and rebuilt it, it would still be the same car. It is a good subject to debate for sure, on just how far can you go. 👍🏻
Where is the cheapest place to buy a tamiya buggy bundle
Hi can you help me to rebuild my vintage tamiya boomerang same as you restored. Please write to me. I have lost my front gearbox
Hi, I have a tamiya rough rider and tamiya cheetah both 1978-1979, complete and working. I havent used them since 1981, they have been stored in my parents loft. Would you be interested in buying them or do you know anybody who does. Thanks.
Nope for me the boomerang is still the best looking tamiya to this day.Mine has a 5200kv brushless with 2s and it utterly flies almost too fast for street bashing, easily get 60mph. The re re comes with the bigwig parts in the box, the super hits hot upgrade is much neater
I'm kinda struggling between the boomerang and the HotShot, what do you guys think ?
Boomerang is more fun
Solid advice right there 👍
One of my "Holy grial" cars! Schumacher Cat 2000 and the Kyosho Turbo Optima Mid SE are the other 2. I just love the looks of the Boomerang. Actually, just the side look though.
I have a turbo optima unboxing video on th channel, if you haven’t seen it already.
@@RCKickschannel Yes, I've watched it, very proper! The one I'm referencing is the one Tower Hobbies used to advertise, yellow body with grey wheels. Love your channel and everything you do!
@@danrennekamp5698 More silver wheels than grey on the SE.
Right, I don't know why I said grey, lol! Give anything for one of those!
Well.. in the build there's no frustrating aspects. But there's few in maintenance side.
Biggest flaw in Boomerang is the sliding steering rack. Sometimes tiny rocks/gravel gets between the rack and the chassis. To get the rack work again you need to remove bumper and some parts and clean the rack. The other annoying is the battery door plastic pin as it gets stuck by dust. Also.. the upper and lower arm joints wear pretty fast.
Remote controlled? Always thought it was Radio Controlled.
Wow, digging through a five year old video to find a slip of the tongue. Taking the time to go into the comments, type out a message pointing out a super obvious mistake, comment to make yourself feel a little bit more superior but forgetting nobody cares just like the others who commented the same thing years ago. 😝👍🏻👍🏻
Great video! I would have to completely agree, it the car that got me started as a kid and restarted when the re re came out! You can check out my re re Boomerang here www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=133916&id=50688
It has been great fun trying different upgrades on the car.
As I am watching this tamiya has just re re the re re.
Hows the kyosho coming along?
In its box sittings in its build holding pattern. Soon
