I did this with silicone 5 days after my son was born. I used silicone to make the hand, then cast the silicone in plaster, then poured a silver hand. I gave one to each of his grandmas. I'm so glad I did that. He's 16 months old now and it reminds me of how tiny he was.

Michael C. It might be harder than you think because as he said it's it's very breakable which means getting your foot out without destroying most of the mold would be very difficult
could you please make some alloys that are not very popular, and do some different tests showing their different proprieties. or even try to cast with them. love the content :D .
You should make a mold of your hand and use expanding foam to cast a hand prop and put it in a bucket of sand to get better results then carving foam blocks
I don't think it's air in the plaster that causes the main problem, it's the air inside the mold that you're pouring plaster into. If he were to somehow put both the mold and the plaster into a vacuum chamber and manage to pour the plaster into the mold under vacuum then it would likely avoid the air bubble he got but the effort you'd need to go to in order to do that just wouldn't be worth the slightly better result you may get. Plus there could be a problem with sticking these products in a vacuum chamber - they both contain a significant amount of water which boils under vacuum at room temp so it could be possible to remove too much of the water from either your plaster or your mold rendering them less effective.
David Samolkin No it doesn't have enough detail and if would also need to have a electric current (because thats how they register a hand apart from fingerprints)and plaster doesn't conduct very well.
I hear you can dry and grind the alginate to reuse it. If you keep a small mold for few weeks, it will shrink by about half, so you can make smaller casts.
Can you please try to coat ice or dry ice with neverwet and if it works, let the ice melt to see if the never wet will be strong enough to hold in the water and for the dry ice see if it makes a bubble of gas.
dry ice sublimates {goes directly to gas} it has no liquid state it is also made of carbon dioxide. But yes it would be cool to see if it could hold all the gas

If you vacuum the plaster it helps degass it. You can even pressure it and shrink the bubbles. We do it in jewelry casting.
