Hey! I've been in Iran in 2019/2020 I'm from Argentina. Iran is my favorite country in the world :) I highly recommend you to visit Hormuz Island, that is my favorite place in Iran.
Vielen lieben Dank für dieses Video!!! Ich hatte die ganze Zeit Gänsehaut, weil es für uns Iraner ein wunderschönes Gefühl ist zu wissen, dass Menschen aus dem Westen rüber fliegen!
Hi Guys, thankyou for your You Tube info on Iran. I am going in February 2018 and so excited. I have been wanting to visit this country for years. Oh and thankyou for the info on 'taroof', very handy
Thanks guys ...My son born & raised in Canada after watch yr video asking me I GOT TO GO TO IRAN ... It's very very nice what you guys did. I really appreciate your time & effort.
he first said its free then asked for a price.... that not taarof he wanted to trick you.... taroof is when for example you take a cab and he won't take the money in first try
oh, my dear friend, you are so naive you are in Shiraz dude and you wonder why people assume you are lazy and you want to take a taxi and dont walk they dont assume it ... they believe in it because it is the way they are shirazi people are the most chill people in the world they dont live they just chill they are famous for it
Lol, yeah! I heard Shirazi people are the only ones that have a chair next to their beds! The first thing they do when getting up is to sit on the chair for a few moments!!!
The gas thing you mentioned. Well, the piping is never concealed In Iran inside the wall on purpose because of safety concerns. When there is a leak it is better that it is exposed to the open. That way the gas would get dispersed and won't accumulate leading to an explosion.
@@BackPackerSteve And it's not a common thing if that gas thing leaks. We have an emergency number for anything like that and you should call them to come and fix it.

one should avoid over-generalization the Iranians are as different from each other as the non-Iranian tourists who visit Iran the person (s) who recorded this video are very respectful of others the videos are of very good quality the authors deserve all respect
Iranian helps strange people or kind of people who likes looking for something and confusing and it doesn't matter where is person from . might be from north of Iran or furthest place in the world. that point is they are hospitable people .
First and foremost, do not smoke ! Smoking kills ! Secondly, we don't call that Shisha, Hooka or Water Pipe... we call it Qelyoon (it's hard to transliterate it, it's better to listen how it's pronounced) By the way, David looks totally Iranian to me :)
I'm sorry to hear you ran into trouble with the guy showing you around. That's not really taroof though. Not everyone is like that and hopefully your video helps some people avoid something similar in the future. :)
Btw it's *tarOFF* and not _-tarOOF-_ And people will look you sideways if you ever use the word _"hookah"_ in Iran. It's called *Gheliun* or *Ghelian* and not even _"shisha."_
Maybe the guy thought you didn't know the difference between rial and toman. 1 million rial is only 30 dollars. 1 million toman is such a ridiculous price to ask for a couple hours, I don't understand.
Great info Steve, thanks! Going there in September, can't wait! I never take selfies but I'd gladly take them with Iranian woman, they look amazing haha
Hello I’m a master student of tourism from Iran and need to interview with international backpackers who were in iran about their experiences and motivations , can you help me in that?
First, these videos are the best ones in introducing Iran that I have ever seen. Well done! Most of the tips they mention are right and should be concerned by tourists. That gas smell was interesting to hear for me, as an Iranian who has lived with it. The Taroof concept is not interpreted well. I guess because they had only one experience of that, which unfortunately was not a good one. It is not supposed to end badly or to something unexpected. However, I admit that it is super annoying and confusing. Even we Iranians get confused about the genuine intentions of Taroof takers :))))
loved all the videos you made about Iran Steve. I hope you guys enjoyed your stay in all the cities you visited. by the way can you please tell more about how to get a visa for Iran and if it's possible or better to travel in Iran without a tour guide? did you sign up with a tour agency? do you have any friends in Iran to help you? I'm Iranian and I would love my foreign friends to someday visit my country but I don't have enough information about the what they might experience if they come or if I'll be able to meet them if they come with a tour agency and have a tour guide.
Thank you ver much! I'm currently translating my comprehensive travel guide from German to English where I'm talking about all those topics. Right now only citizens from US, UK and Canada need to be with a tour guide at all times / need to book an organized tour. Information about the visa process is different for each country and can be found on the website of the iranian embassy in that country.
it was lovely to see the video, kindly make a plan and visit Pakistan, would love to host you, show you the beautiful landscapes, make you taste the delicious food and experience warm and hospitable people
Thanks for usefull tips, when speaking about Taroof, at which places I can expect to pay in that way? In supermarket/busses probably not, just in bazaar, souvenir stores or taxi? Thanks
It’s been a dream of mine for two years now to visit Iran. I was planning on visiting it this summer but I would like to know if it’s safe (i saw on the news that the tensions were rising) and if the summer is too hot?
No matter the amount of tensions, we are always nice to tourists. Government too bc it wants to change public image of iran in international media they are nice to tourists too
Hi. I just saw the videos. Honestly I felt angry about the guy asked you for money. That's not Taroof. That was so rude in Iranian culture. I hope it never happens to any other tourist in iran. And please make friends online before u travel to Iran and try find nice people in each city you plane to travel so she/he would take care of you there. In iran and our culture we say "a guest is the friend of god" and respecting and taking care of them has been very important part of our culture . 💛
As I traveled Iran for almost 10 times, taxis are pretty cheap, I assume that they so you a bot different from them and decided to take an advantage. As an Arab I pretty look like them and some of them can understand Arabic a little bit and it's very easy to negotiate prices.
Dear Steve & David Thank you for all the great clips to show a glimpse of what our forigner friends who are planing to coming to my country Iran should expect and can come and experience it for them selfs. On be half of all the Iran Tourists Guide Federation and WFTGA I want to thank you for your nice efforts for promoting my motherland IRAN and helping in its Tourism growth. IRAN and its Tourism has somehow became a victim of bad mass media so thank you again for showing its true colors for travelers. Be happy always. Your Iranian Tourists Guide friend Saghar Jalali.
Saghar Jalali hello.. is it safe for indians to Travel Iran and neighbouring countries. It looks good for European tourist but havent seen any Asian or indian.
In old Iran sale men doing Taroof and they believe in it, so if customer could not pay price they give them for free or borrow them, but now we only doing Taroof but we wait for money. still we have some good old style shops that do real Taroof. Taroof works every where even when you and someone else together entering a house. This is a culture in Iran like many strange culture in other countries. By the way you must know we do Taroof by people who like them and we do not have any Taaro with enemies :)) I hope you enjoyed in Iran
Good news but Toman always seemed to me more like a "virtual" currency between people so I would assume that people will continue using it, don't you think?
Wow!! Beautiful city.😊 asking tourist "Where are you from"? It is typical in most countries as someone who looks different than locals. I'm curious because I don't want to say I'm from USA because of current attitudes that are not my own. I love traveling meeting new people from all different countries. In your opinion what do most Iranians think about tourists from America? Thanks 😊 and blessings on your adventures!!
Dear Elizabeth, Iranians are well known for their kindness and hospitality and if you seen on the news certain amount of them chanting dark wishes about USA it's not for the American people but for American foreign policy, so don't worry about telling them where you are from and experience their love in return. Wish you safe and lovely trip to the land of thousand and one night:)
Hey Steve. Hope you enjoyed in iran. But as an Iranian it was a little surprised for me you said the people looke up to européen. They just wanted to have connection with you☺. The reason is not important my friend. And the taroof thing wasn't taroof. He was trying to rip you off.😑
really nice trip story ❤️ i'm from iran and thx for coming and making this video , i really enjoyed , but indeed our streets don't smell gas 😂😂 , come to mazandaran state , i am sure you're gonna love it , thank you again and have a nice time

I do believe that 1mio rial for this is a bit too much to ask. We invited him for tea and also gave him a more appropriate tip at the end. Lesson learned ;)
BackPacker Steve if he was chasing you and asked for that much then he was just unfair. some people think just because someone is a tourist he is rich too and you should try to get what you can from him. I feel bad about it.

Mily TM as an Iranian I totally agree with you hahah

It’s annoyingly annoying
I’m Iranian
More annoying than somebody loudly shouting

I hope the Iranian Ministry of Tourism watched this video and took notes
kittens are cuter than human babies what notes. From someone who knows less?

Thanks for sharing this nice vedio, and hopefully you enjoyed of your vacation in my country Iran.
First and foremost, do not smoke ! Smoking kills !
Secondly, we don't call that Shisha, Hooka or Water Pipe... we call it Qelyoon (it's hard to transliterate it, it's better to listen how it's pronounced)
By the way, David looks totally Iranian to me :)
Haha, funny thing is we always wondered why people came mostly up to me for Selfies and often approached David by speaking farsi ;)
I've heard it called Sheesheh in Iran as well, but mostly is Qhalyawn.
Please check www.alibabatrek.com. Hope you enjoy that
U mean hookah?😂
Great advice and hope you go back again.

True, this madness is about to end
Mily TM I think you said it backwards. they want to make Toman official.
aha - that would make more sense to me ;)
ye, I am sorry , I said that vise versa . :) :)
