That song is still so great. So good to hear it again. Pure 80's. Simple but so enjoying. And that's exactly why I love 80's music. So, thanks a lot for that reaction, Dereck.
This was a one-hit wonder gem of the mid 80s. The front man is Jimmy McShane, from N. Ireland, who died of AIDS in the early 90s. The song is always a fun flashback to the 80s.
With all due respect bro I was also born in 85’ and I find it hard to believe you never heard this song lol back in 92-93 it was EVERYWHERE lol from the listerine commericials to The turtles 3 trailer but classic
I suggested this because you love synth, 80s, AND one-hit wonders! Glad you loved it. Unfortunately, the lip-synching "lead singer" Jimmy McShane died very young from AIDS, but all us 80s club kids will remember this forever!
European dance producers definitely came up first with catchy melodies and musical hooks, English language lyrics were secondary and almost superfluous to the whole exercise. Still produced lots of fun music
React to more Duran Duran please? Planet Earth, Hungry like the Wolf, The Reflex, View to a Kill... or some of their 90s hits: Ordinary World, Come Undone. Other favorite Duran Duran songs (more artsy ones): Out of my Mind, New Religion, The Chauffeur

Yeah! He mentioned that All Elite Wrestling's "Jungle Boy" Jack Has Perry used the song as his theme. It was awesome when he did. FUN FACT, Jack Perry's dad is the late Luke Perry. You can see it in his face!
Your pronunciation of "Baltimora" is perfect! That's how Italians call Baltimore (a city in the US). I realized about this in 2019, when I was taking a ride in Genoa (Italy), and I found a small park called Baltimora. I read a sign that said "Baltimora, città degli Stati Uniti" ("Baltimora", city of the United States). I know the song since 1985. It was a smash hit in my country, Argentina. The "singer" of this band was from Northern Ireland. His name was Jimmy McShane (died at 37 from AIDs). He lip-synched the songs in live presentations. The real singer was Maurizio Bassi, and Silver Pozzoli sang the chorus. Silver Pozzoli had a hit called "Around My Dream".
A few years after this song was a hit I remembered it, but had no idea the name of the song or group. I tried finding it at record stores. It took about three tries of buying a tape/cd and returning it before I finally found it.
Big hit back then. Italo disco classic. Sound first as you said, I think it is because the synthesizers became affordable and invited people to work more on the synthesis, to explore sound design. The audience was eager to hear electronic sounds which were unusual before.
as a DJ for 35 years I always used to mix this song in between "Automatic" by the Pointer Sisters and "Self Control" By Laura Branigan. Perfect blend from each into the next! If you love 80's Synth Check out both of those too Dereck! Also Donna Summer- She Works Hard For The Money has a great backstory behind it too!
Undoubtedly cheesy as all hell, but unforgettable - this was quite huge here in the UK back in '85 EDIT: Forgot about the big cat "growl" sample! You've gotta love it.
You are 100% correct. 80's music was well produced and had a lot of detail. It was made by real musicians who experimented a lot with different sounds. It was made to be listened on home stereos that would fill the room with sound. Today's music is disposable, made quick by a guy on a computer and it's on to the next "hit". Can't sing? No problem, enter autotune. Because people listen to it on their phones and cheap speakers or headphones, they don't care about the quality or the little details. Rick Beato here on TH-cam has a series called "what makes this song great" and he points out all the little details, especially in 80s songs. Eye opening stuff.
Great reaction Dereck. This Euro-pop classic was playing in every discotheque on Majorca when I was there for my first summer holiday (without the parents) mid - late 80’s. Happy days ☀️🍺 Another Euro-pop classic is “Seven Tears” by the Goombay Dance Band.
80's sounds did come first a lot. Lots of good writers still write tunes first and figure out lyrics later. For myself I always start with a base line of some kind.
hi dereck. don’t worry you don’t have an oversized ego and you don’t grab a big head. It's normal that little by little you become more and more seasoned in 80's music. just like by dint of listening to French songs you will end up speaking French (well I exaggerate a bit to be a little la lol) but becoming a specialist in French songs you are off to a good start because going as far as listening to edith piaf bravo because it is more time but it is one of the first french idols
You should check out some other really nice Italian acts, like Matia Bazar (Ti Sento, Noi, Sulla Scia) or maybe even My Mine and their glorious Hypnotic Tango.
" Tarzan Boy " is the first song by Italian band Baltimora, released in 1985. From the band's first album, Living in the Background, it is the first track. The song, whose lyrics are in English, was re-recorded in 1993 and was covered by several artists over time. The chorus uses vocalizations inspired by Tarzan's cry as a melodic line. The song, rhythmic, consists of a melody with simple text on a background of electronic music, in the genre italo disco. The song is about homosexuality and the life that comes with it. The song was ranked number one for 5 weeks in the top 50 in the French chart.
Baltimore sadly only had this one hit and died tragically from aids, but what a great 80’s song - every time I see a bottle of Listerine at the grocery store I sing this song and look to see who smiles
MAURIZIO BASSI SING IN THE BACKGROUND AND AT THE SAME TIME HE WAS THE PRODUCER ... (JIMMY MC SHAME R.i.p 1995) WAS ONLY THE DANCER WITH PLAYBACK ... GOOD SUMMER HIT 1985 FROM 🇮🇹
I'm not an expert in 80's music, either. It's just the music I grew up with. And back then, I only enjoyed it without analyzing the songs. If I try to do an analysis now, I a always come to the conclusion, even though 80's music might sometime be cheesy and is very catchy, there seems to have been a lot more effort going into making it, especially the little details like the trumpet hits on the keyboard and the complexity of some parts of the melody in most 80's song than there every will be in a pop song produced today, with little melody to speak of and that horrible autotune crap. I like the synth-pop from the 80s. I have to of my favorite examples here: 1. Another song from the Italy disco genre. A song by musician called P.Lion with the name "Happy Children". It has multiple layers of synth melodies being played before he even starts singing. th-cam.com/video/CMQjZIaKBpQ/w-d-xo.html And yes, this one really sounds as if the singing wasn't the most important part. 2. A totally different song, that is also a total synth fest. This one is be the famous Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) and is called "Here is the News" th-cam.com/video/Bzehb_yeZtU/w-d-xo.html
Happy children is one of my favourite 80's music, I always start dancing when I listen to it. Dreams is the other hit of p.lion especially in France thanks to the top 50
Unlike today, artists back then really put a lot of emphasis on producing good melodies that stood the test of time. Which is why a lot of them will always remain classics. Glad you touched up on that. Because most of today's music is just plain hot garbage - no soul, no feeling, or anything like that. Rap too used to be a lot more lively and catchy as well. But these days it's been reduced to simple beats and has a very lackadaisical feel overall. I almost want to put all of the blame on Drake for revolutionizing that kind of rap style which I find really irritating. But overall, today's music in general is just simply in a very sad state :(
Check out Total Cuelo "I Eat Cannibals" - same vibe and time. I had it on vinyl. And Animotion, "Obsession" - I used to play it on my keyboards. Play them please. Love The Green-Eyed Viking.
Was there different versions released depending on the market? The Australian release was different from this one. Or maybe I just bought a different remix... who knows it was 1985! so long ago.
Please react to these tracks👍Great 80's sound😊 Jennifer Rush: Yesterme, Yesteryou, Yesterday Destiny The Right Time Has Come Now Shalamar: A Night To Remember Amnesia

Welcome to 80s Italy, my friends... when we were Legend.
Nostalgia overload!!
I too was born in the 80s and I can confirm. We were born in the time of amazing music.
I am from 1992 and I never can get enough of 1980's music
You were closer to 80s music in that year than what you are now from 1992. :| :|
@@IsJustSmilemiles it is true. You're right!
1990 here. I was raised by listening to 70-80's. My parents were obsessed with it. I can't thank them enough!
80's were without doubt the decade of so much music diversity that shaped the "artists"
Wooo, another favourite of my childhood ! 😱
The 80's Italian Disco wave 🌊 it was a hit in France 🇫🇷 too!
it`s Italo Disco not italian disco
This was huge in the clubs in the 80s even into early 90s in US.
Best dance moves right as the video ends. I love this song!
With all due respect bro I was also born in 85’ and I find it hard to believe you never heard this song lol back in 92-93 it was EVERYWHERE lol from the listerine commericials to The turtles 3 trailer but classic

part of what makes It so unique in my opinion
I can remember it played in disco, that was fire my friend, nothing can be compared nowadays.
Pure 80's heaven, j'adore!!!!
Another huge dance track from 1989 and Italian producers : Ride on time by Black Box.
Ça claque toujours 😊
Il y a eu tellement de bons titres ,
je pense que la descendance de
Derek prendra la relève .
Peace
Nothing beats the 80s!

Love the originality of the song.
Glad you did this one, it is one of my fav from the 80's! an enormous blast !
Sooooo goooood !!!!
This is a total uplift.
Some people find this song lame....but it is legendary!!!
Thanks.
This song was a big " tube " , on the radio. I adored it very much ! In 1985 , I looked for it , on my little radio.
GREAT song, thank you Dereck !
I remember a great commercial using this song. I forgot what they were advertising. This song just sticks in my head. I was that good!
It might be cheesy to some people, but this is possibly the most catchy one-hit wonder song of all time. I have it as a ringtone.
He did a few more hits but unfortunately didn't make a mark unlike this absolutely classic 80s 😊
Ohlala mes premiers émois!!!🙂❣👍 Fake - "Another brick"and Nena "99 luftballons"- in same times Indochine - "Canarie bay"
Oh yeah "another brick" love those sounds 😍😍😍
My father is a big fan of Italo Disco lol. Im 22 and grew up with it! Along side Depeche Mode and many other 80s classics. Im thankful for this.

*Cheese!* Yes it is! We loved our cheese in the 80s we had serious music but we knew how to be not serious too!
Yeah! He mentioned that All Elite Wrestling's "Jungle Boy" Jack Has Perry used the song as his theme. It was awesome when he did. FUN FACT, Jack Perry's dad is the late Luke Perry. You can see it in his face!

Love this one!! Great nostalgia!
Excellent 80' one hit wonder . Like it.
Pinnacle of the 80s music
Last time I listened to this, I continued with “Comanchero”… :)
A few years after this song was a hit I remembered it, but had no idea the name of the song or group. I tried finding it at record stores. It took about three tries of buying a tape/cd and returning it before I finally found it.
If you like Italo Disco then check out Spagna "Call Me" & "Easy Lady"! Those were big hits in the discos!!
What a souvenir !!
Saw the thumbnail, heard "Jungle Life..." in my head hehehe good times!
Big hit back then. Italo disco classic.

Same in Belgium
Might be cheesy visually, but it’s still so damn catchy.
The cover of the album "QUEEN II" on the back of Derek.. Look at the position of the arms: that of the sleeping vampire ...
I remember feeding the jukebox for this badboy...I was 14 when you were born lol
The "Tarzan call" part is totally the chorus...I never thought about that before.
Such a fun song! ❤
If you love synths and euro sound try "Living on Video" by Trans X. Early 80's.
Hell yes!
How to make me feel old. I bought this in 85
