I applied what I learned on this channel (after not freelance writing for years) and landed 2 clients after 2 months of outreach.
And I wasn't even close to 5-10 LOIs per day. I sent out around 50 total.
Once my current client workflow is solidified I'll be revisting the strategy with a focus on copywriting.
Oh yeah, and I found 1 of my current clients on Sean's job list, Freelancers Friend

This is awesome to hear! I'm a newer writer on Medium but trying to learn how to expand outward. I definitely need to follow Sean's steps. I mean, heck, I didn't survive a cardiac arrest at 41 for nothing! I truly believe I'm still here and meant to share my stories and years of research in better health strategies with others. I just need to find better ways besides Medium! Thanks for posting your success to give others like us. I hope that Sean's tips work! I'm definitely focusing on the health and well-being niche, focusing on mental health, ie: anxiety, depression, PTSD recovery, as I've lived through it all. How many other people can write from the experience of surviving a near death experience that I was told I had a chance of 0.01% of living through?! Hopefully I can find the right path, and perhaps catch some breaks along the way so I can become a more successful and more importantly, a more impactful writer.

Sean, I have big dream earning great amount of money through freelance writing. But now I started having severe anxiety looking at the competition and how actually good people are. I'm new to my niche, trying to learn about it and writing articles. It's an in-demand niche. But I feel like I will never make it because competition is way better.

    • @proudkingmartin

That's the same issue I had. But I told myself - doctors don't get scared because their competition is good. In fact, that you have competition means your niche is profitable.
All the experts started as newbies like you. You have to start somewhere

This is great advice here. But honestly I think where you can set yourself apart and get a leg up against other writers who may be equal or better than you technically - is in your relationships. Be authentic. Be personable. Be flexible. Be positive. Be someone that clients WANT to work with because you make their life so much easier and enjoyable. Focus on providing a positive experience for your client, and it will give you some grace and a leg up when it comes to the work.

So do I, especially about niching down. Naturally, working in a specific niche is less stressful than being a generalist, trying to know everything.

Ive written a few thousand articles in my time as a freelance writer. AI hasn't changed much for me yet. I've absolutely included it in my workflows, but it's just a tool at this point.
SME interviews and niching down have absolutely rise. to the forefront of my business, however. Spot on, Sean.

I totally agree. I've seen more job posting from companies where you can be fired if you use AI. I think AI is a great tool, and I really like using it, and it allows me to focus on perspecitive and ideas. Niching down is actually easier, since you're focusing on specifics rather than a range of topics. Thanks again for your encouragement.

Thanks for the latest info on the state of the freelance writing world. Even though they want AI to replace technical writers, I'm not seeing it as a threat. First and foremost a technical writer needs empathy for their audience and to be able to put themselves in the shoes of a newbie to a product or process. AI may be able to spit out cold hard facts, but it will never understand their audience the way a skilled writer can.

Hey Sean! Love your content. It's really a joy to watch you and the advice that you give exudes sincerity. I just wanted to ask you a question that's been bugging me a lot. And it's that how do you niche down if you aren't an expert at anything, like I can't say that I am an expert in a specific topic and I could write about that confidently. I am more of a generalist. So what advice would you give me? Thanks a lot!
