    This was my first time using a blood ketone meter. I have used urine test strips before but feel they are too subjective to give accurate results. I did quite a bit of research and found the keto mojo to be my choice because it tracks both ketones and glucose. Additionally, the strips are inexpensive compared to other units.
    I am going to track my ketones and keep a record of them. I like to read spreadsheets since I'm a numbers girl. I think it will help make sense and give me some ideas on the impact different foods and going to the gym do to the overall fat burning from week to week. Stay tuned for a more in depth review of my little experiment.
    I am not a doctor or medical professional. This video is just for fun and for information purposes only!

    HI Jess Here are some tips from a nurse. The sides of your finger tips have less nerve endings so its not at painful (I’ve been told by patients) using the side of the finger tips. There is a face book group that are types one Diabetics and their title is “let me be 83”. Thats their goal for their blood sugars. As you probably are aware the current recommendation for these fragile folks is “eat what ever you want but give yourself insulin”. They very quickly get very high insulin and become severely insulin resistant over their life. They also develops all the manifestations of elevated blood sugars, including diabetic nephropathy, cataracts, retinopathy, and glaucoma. They usually start early with nerve damage and that can affect all the nerves in the body. The worst I have seen is severe gastroparesis . The is where the nerves are damaged around the esophagus and the food is delayed going down. Imagine you are a diabetic and your suppose to estimate how much insulin to use for the food your are about to eat. You give yourself insulin and the food does not get to the stomach because its delays and the insulin drives your blood sugar into dangerous low blood sugar. Most of the type ones are not low carb because of what the Diabetes association tells them to eat. Dr Richard Bernstein is a 80 year old type one who treats type ones and type two’s. He says 83 is what normal people who are insulin sensitive and believes we should all be 83. He has a great book "Diabetes Solution" and a you tube channel called "Diabetes University". I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and I no longer am pre-diabetes. I am kind of nerd and like data and find this education related to obesity and Diabetes, super interesting. I have some other tips. Here is Dr Jeffrey Gerbers talk at the last low carb conference. He states that when we start getting closer to our goal we will need to lower our fat intake. At about 3/4 of the way through the talk he shows a scale that shows how to calculate that. th-cam.com/video/nkxHmrKwcwQ/w-d-xo.html I am 65 and a soon to be retired RN living in Canada. I too lost weigh (70 pounds 2 years ago). Was up and down my whole life. Never thought I could stay at a goal weight (130 pounds now for 2 years) without being extremely hungry. I just love this WOE. I have been watching you for a while but usually I view you on my TV which doesn’t allow me to subscribe. So today I needed to make an effort to turn on my computer and subscribe. You journey is exciting and fun to watch. Thank you for your generosity of allowing us into your life.

    You can check your GKI (glucose, Keto index) blood sugar 82 divided by 18 = 4.55 divided by Ketones 1.2 = 3.79. below 3 is ideal, 3-6 is moderate level, 6-9 is low level. All the info is on keto mojo's website....great job Jess!!

    Keto Mojo is a pretty accurate meter for glucose, I've tested it against my Bayer, very close😉 If you set your Lancet device to the deepest setting and squeeze a good drop of blood, you can use the same drop for both strips, and won't have to restick😉😁💖 Just remember to hold the strip up to the droplet, and let it pull it in, so the drop stays round, that will make it possible to use it twice. Try to use only your index and middle fingers, easier, and use the side, not pad of your finger ( less sensitive). Be aware that even the most accurate monitors will have a margin of fluctuation, you'll see this if you test the SAME drop of blood, for glucose, you'll almost always get different numbers, sometimes VERY different, lol😉😁💖

    Hi Jess, great video. I also use the Keto Mojo and it’s great to see how different food affects your blood glucose and ketones. Dr Boz has a ratio, which is obtained by dividing the glucose by the ketones and if your ratio, “number” is 80 or below your body is in fat burning mode, 40 and below means that the inmune system is in repair mode and autophagy is in full swing ang 20 and below is used to treat cancer patients. So using this kind of meters are really good to know where one is. Love your channel and thanks so much for all your help. ❤️

    You can use the same drop of blood for both the insulin and glucose check. Just squeeze your finger again if needed. Change your sharp for each use: place the puncture mark to be on the side of your finger tab. If you want to determine tour keto glucose index then just divide your glucose by ketones. Under 80 is great for weightloss and if your index number is under 40 thats great for people with autoimmune diseases or health issues. I love your videos and have enjoyed following your journey.

    Testing glucose is a good idea too. I'm curious to know if you ever tested your glucose at your highest weight. 82 is normal and actually very good. 88 an hour after eating is excellent. I test regularly as I am insulin resistant so I know where the numbers are supposed to be. You're doing great, Jess. Guess I should say too is that you will get different readings from different fingers. Not a huge difference but definitely interesting to note. I will often use my baby finger and my pointer finger to test but never in the same day as the variance can be several points difference.

    Hi Jess, thanks for the review!! Try using the side of the tips of your fingers. Not so many nerve endings. I used to be diabetic, before keto. we we know these little tricks.

  • @monicaambs
    @monicaambs 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    To drive your blood down to your hands quickly you can just swing your arm around a few times. Be careful you don’t hit any furniture. That sends the blood down to your tips quickly. I need to do this myself occasionally as I have an auto immune condition called Raynauds. The nerves clamp down on the blood vessels in my fingers when I experience cold and drive the blood from my fingers and this causes pain. So in order to quickly bring blood back to my fingers once I have come inside from the cold, I use the above method to drive the blood back into my tips. The lack of blood means my finger tips have less oxygen. That can cause death to some tiny vessels. It is rare to get gangrene but it has been documented. I am extremely protective of my fingers.

    If you put your fingers together like your praying and pull your palms out like your making a steeple with your hands....anywhere your figures touch is more sensitive when you prick your fingure. So go on the sides and it won't be as bad.

  • @will2dmax1

    Glucose readings are more important than ketone readings,because it's the release of insulin that prevents fat burning,and if you are low carb/moderate protein that will keep your insulin levels down,and keep you in fat burning mode.

    Hi Jess, yes variables would be really interesting but as you say just for interest and guidance and not to be taken too seriously as it’s the food and exercise that make the difference. It’s been interesting to hear how you came to be overweight and I have been saying this for years that when we see an overweight person it’s not about the food that made us overweight it’s about self worth and how we got to feel worthless in the first place. Unfortunately we choose food as a punishment which we do to hide those feelings of pain inside, It’s easy to say that no matter how much we weigh we should never let anyone make us feel less than worthy but in the end it’s not how others make us feel it’s how we make ourselves feel that matters. It’s been wonderful watching you gain in confidence these last months and I hope you carry on because you are are great inspiration to so many of us , greetings from Norfolk England x

    Your Dr. Boz ratio is 68. She says that anything under 80 means you are in the weight loss zone. Autophagy comes with a Dr. Boz ratio under 40. The math to do it the other way is hard for those of us who are not so good with math, so she has figured out how to do a ratio that is much easier to figure--dividing the blood glucose by the ketone reading: hence 82 divided by 1.2 is a ratio of 68. I test every morning. I have the finger pricker up on the third notch and hit the side of the finger and I get enough blood for both. 2nd reading after lunch is a ratio of 98. The third is a ratio of 95. That is interesting. Exercising uses up your ketones.

  • @meggmegg6656
    @meggmegg6656 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Notice that your blood glucose doesnt go up much because you are eating keto Fasting 82 then 1hour after eating 88 then coming back down only 85. If you were eating carbs your BG after eating would rise and stimulate more insulin secretion toget it back down. It may go up to say 160 or higher after eating before coming back down. Fasting BG range is 60 to 100. 82 is good.

    • @JohnnyHughes1
      @JohnnyHughes1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The setup is just use the code device one time for the ketone strip package. You get one device with each ketone strip package. The code is a 3 digit code.. Once you insert the code device, it will display the 3 digit code. Once setup, then insert a ketone strip.. It should show the same 3 digit code. If it does, you are all set and ready to test. You only need to use that code device one time to set up the meter with that 3 digit code. You will get a new code device (and new 3 digit code) when you buy a new package of ketone strips. I throw away the old code device when I run out of ketone strips and only have on box of strips open at a time.
      You don't have to set the code for glucose strips.. Only ketone strips.
