Civilized take on the whole game. Thanks, Daniel and Citi TV. We do, as Ghanaians, need to know that for the past few years there's growing underlying sentiments by a lot of Nigerians that we don't like them. They cite the the partial destruction of their embassy residential building in Accra. They also cite and can see removals of the hundreds of their illegal immigrants on news media. They've seen some of the often disproportionate spotlighting their criminal offences on TV, etc. All these, I'm sure have added to their view of 'Ghana hates us'. We need to know this, good or bad. An uneducated Nigerian in their own country may not hold a Ghanaian in high esteem right now - to put it mildly - rightly or wrongly. Added to this is the general portrayal of 'Ghana has taken our lunch' on international investments and such like it as being discussed in their media whenever this happens in recent times. Of course it's not all our fault. There are probably too many involved in crime and illegally living in Ghana. But we do need to know about their perception of us and not rub it in their faces when we are on their home turf (they had a major train crash before our last football qualifier game with them in Abuja. Showing some public display of sympathy towards them on this incident would have been good - but perhaps our team and fans didn't know about this). They are working hard to hold back their feelings towards us right now. It's understandable to an extent even if unacceptable behaviour for the stadium incident.
Ridiculous, how did we rub it in their faces? All they did was to jubilate and you call that rubbing it in their face? The animalistic actions of those Nigerian fans should be condemned in no uncertain terms by any discerning being. Ghanaians will never act like this because we have tolerance and respect for others, something Nigerians need to learn and learn very fast cos this type of stupidity cannot be entertained in this era. Ghanaians don't hate Nigerians and have never given any reason for anyone to view it so, however way you look at it so if their media choose to report fiction as facts, thats on them. If you are Ghanaian speaking this way, then im afraid to tell you, such sentiments are the reason why some look at us as timid and just easy to ride over. Stop this unwarranted humility and timidity and call a spade a spade, Ghanaman

This kind of behaviour seems to have been normalised in some African countries. I remember in the late 90's when Ghanaians in Ivory Coast were subjected to harassment, beatings, and killings at the hands of aggrieved Ivorians over the results of Asec Mimosa and Asante Kotoko. Asec lost in Kumasi and the fans on their return to Abidjan made up horrific stories about abuse they had suffered while en route back home. I remember this because I was living in Abidjan at the time. Not too shocked to realise this senseless behaviour is still going on. Because of that experience I endured, I am very hesitant to tell people about my nationality. There are really too many backward-thinking people on the continent and it seems we are a long way from 'seeing the light'. Pathetic.
Nigerian teams were always being beaten in Cote D'Ivoire. I remember when African Sports played Iwuanyanwu Nationale in 1988 or so. Rasheed Yekini was leading the African Sports forward line and posed a threat the whole match. Toyin Ayinla's wonder strike got the crucial away goal for Nationale in a 1-2 loss after winning the first leg 2-0 and all hell was let loose. What you saw in Abuja is a culmination of all the negative reportage surrounding Nigerian traders and the GIPC law in Ghana. These tensions have been building up and I pray the political leaders on both sides do something about this before it degenerates into xenophobic attacks.
