    The Sony 40mm f2.5 G lens might not have the best specs on paper, but it's a fantastic lens....especially if you value having a compact, light weight setup like I do!
    Watch this video if you want to see why this lens has become my most used lens despite having much "fancier" and more expensive lenses in my arsenal.
    Thanks for watching!

    made me cancel my order for sigma 28-200mm and picked up this 40mm for my upcoming travel. I will be pairing it with my A7CII and 40mm! thanks for the vid!

    solid review :) it's gonna be my next lens. I too have the 35GM, 24GM, 50/1.2 GM and I just want a compact nice FE G lens for my α7CR

    Good Video, I agree on the lens hood. It's metal and keeps the lens more discrete and compact. Hoping Sony brings a few more focal lengths to this compact G series.

    In addition to the kit lens for my Sony A7CII, I also have the lenses Sony 24mm.f.2.8 G and Sony 40mm.f.2.5 G, and for the last two I use the same lens hood as you, and I love the look of this lens hood for the lenses 😊

      Dear friend, I need your advice - I’m going to buy the same set (Sony A7CII, Sony 24mm.f.2.8 G and Sony 40mm.f.2.5 G) Please tell me, do these lenses work well in the 33 MP A7CII matrix? Is their resolution sufficient for this matrix?

    Bought the 40mm G after lugging the 24-70GMii +a7Cii for an entire trip and noticed how much i was missing out on a light and compact setup. Lens feels quality. Same observations on min focusing distance. Wish it got a little closer, 18- 21cm would have been nice. Other than that, i think this is the best one amongst the 3 small G primes.

      @Minerva___ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What does your travel setup look like nowadays? Would you prefer 3 primes vs. the zoom? I always found the zoom to be really convenient but that was on a smaller system (Fuji). I have the a7iv now and it’s anything but light. I don’t mind carrying the glass but having to change lenses always seems to come at the most inopportune time.

      @Eatmeraw 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Minerva___ my other primes have got little to no use after i started using the 24-70gm ii. Its just too good as a standard zoom. I'll bring the 40mm along on trips just for days i need my setup to be light but 90% of the time its the 24-70 gmii. I too am not a fan of switching out lenses.

    Hi Matt, I have a very silly question for you. I have this lens and love it very much, particularly how sharp it is. I have it paired with my A7RV and love all the detail it can capture. But there is a part of me that wonders is the 35 mm GM significantly sharper? I know that is both bright brighter and has fewer optical flaws, but is it also significantly sharper? Sharpness is my number one priority. Appreciate any and all detailed feedback you might be able to give. Regardless, thank you for your incredible content.

    Thank you. I’ve had this lens for awhile but wondering about this lens vs Sony’s FE 35mm f/1.8. Sure the f/1.8 is not as small but what do you think of the on the compact C bodies like the A7CII or A7CR that have the extra dial? Take care

    • @MattYamamoto100
      @MattYamamoto100  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 35mm f1.8 is a fantastic lens as well, but I do prefer the compactness of this lens for EDC or street photography. If I didn't already own the 35mm GM lens, I would have no problem going with the 1.8

    Hi there Matt!
    Question:
    Do you think that lens its a better option than the Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G?

    • @MattYamamoto100
      @MattYamamoto100  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No, definitely not. It’s a matter of preference. I generally prefer a 35mm, but will probably pick up to 50mm as well. 😊

      @@MattYamamoto100 thanks you very much. Talking about the 35mm i was thinking for next and for a bigger option but compact, the FE 1.8/35mm its more compact than FE 1.4/35.

      I did, but I shoot a lot of video with my A7IV and A7SIII, so I wanted something that would be compatible with Sony's focus breathing compensation feature.

    Great review man. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m torn between the 40mm and the Sony Zeiss 35mm 2.8 as an EDC setup. Tough to decide because both seem like really awesome options.
    Also: we seem to share a lot of hobbies! :D not only photo/video, but I also play electric guitar and ride mountainbikes. What is it about us creatives? :D Hope you’re having a great day!

      Haha, I’ve noticed that too! Lots of guitar players here on YT. For me, the reason I would choose the 40mm, is because it’s compatible with focus breathing compensation. If you don’t shoot a lot video, maybe you don’t care about that…

      @@MattYamamoto100I could live without breathing compensation, but I’ m suspecting I’d like 40mm better as a focal length. But there are arguments for the 35mm too. Great arguments for both, actually. I’ll probably just have to try it for myself instead of theorizing. =)

    I prefer the lighter and smaller Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 ZA which I got used recently for US$215 (taxes included), my other 35mm Lens is the Voigtländer APO-Lanther 35mm 2.0 Aspherical which is built like a tank and gives images quality at least as good as the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM.
