    My grandparents are like this. Except it's opposite. My grandfather has Alzheimer's and he doesn't remember her but he loves her and forgets who she is everyday. And he always is proposing to her and asking her to marry him and when he finds out that they're already married he gets so happy

    my mother has this slow and dreadful disease. my parents have been married 62 years. I live with them and see the many times my father cries. she does not remember me or my two younger sisters anymore. she is confused now daily about who daddy is. she remembers her childhood. she asks most every day if my parents have passed away. I am blessed. I am with them until their time is up. I know that might sound odd, but helping them through this has made me realize what true love is.

      +ana lucia solsi yes it is a fatal disease, I am learning to enjoy her company in different ways. she very much enjoys company and conversation. I have become pretty good at figuring out the word she is trying to express. I believe it is essential to always treat her with dignity and respect. My knowledge that my Savior is with us gives me faith and endurance.

    This reminded me of my grandparents. My grandfather had alzheimer's and he ended up living in a different area of the nursing home my grandparents were living in as well. This was because my grandmother had a stroke (and later a seizure that left her not able to speak) and needed special treatment. He would go and sit with her everyday until he couldn't remember anymore and stopped going. He ended up sleeping 22 hours a day, but sometimes my father would wheel him into my grandmothers room and she would grab a hold of his hand. We could sometimes get him to wake up and sing French songs with us, and that was the best part because then my grandmother would squeeze his hand and say, "I love you," and he would respond, "I love you too dear." They both really loved each other very much and after he died, my grandmother died two months later. I miss them both very much, but this video made me smile as I was reminded of the loving relationship they had for each other.

      +Natalie Bean My gramma never went to a nursing home, she lived to 95 and actually yelled at God everyday at that age that she was tired of living, bless her heart. My grandpa had been in a nursing home since I was really small with Alzheimer's disease and I feel she had a lot of guilt over that. She never married again after him. They were devout Christians (he more so as he didn't believe in celebrating pagan rituals like Christmas) but as he progressed and became non verbal (except for explicit cuss words) she always worried about his soul. How could a "Christian" talk like that. Anyway towards the end of his life, he became totally non verbal. But on his death bed, he opened his eyes and looked at gramma and said "momma, I see Jesus". She always loved him, and he let her know he loved her.

    • @TerriKnoll
      @TerriKnoll 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For those that want to get on the "religious bent" that is not what I meant. She knew what he needed "a devout wife no matter what" and he knew what she needed "a saved soul". There is not enough of that in the world today.

    My grandfather has had Alzheimer's for 6 years. During those 6 years, he was able to walk, talk, and feed himself with no issues. Until about 7 months ago, my grandfather was put in the hospital. They made a huge mistake on him. They drugged him every single day and he never walked. He came home and he was never the same. He woke up from his sleep a day after he came home from the hospital, and the first thing he said when he woke up was, "I love you, my love" to my grandmother. ❤️

    My grandma or as I call her Nonny has this terrible disease. When my grandpa passed away she cried, then she forgot if he was dead or alive. We would tell her he was dead and she would start crying again. It's absolutely terrible that she has to live with this, she can't remember anything, and it breaks my heart to think one day she won't remember me.

    My parents were married in 1939 too. They made it 71 years. My mother had some dementia, but Daddy just let it roll off his back. Had she had full blown Alzheimer's, he would have done the same thing, gone to see her every day, held her hands every day and loved her until the end. As it turned out, Daddy died at 95 and my mother died a couple months later even though there was nothing physically wrong with her. She just laid herself down and said she was going with Daddy and no doctors, hospitals or anyone could talk her out of it.

    This is so special and lovely. Thanks for posting it. I remember 30 years ago, before I became a scrub nurse, I worked as a nurse's aide in an old folks home. There was a couple like this one. She had Alzheimer's but he did not. He walked every single day from their home to see her. They held hands the entire time he was there. She was so beautiful even then and very cute and loving and pleasant. I noticed she had a bunch of frilly bed jackets. One day I put her white hair up with a silky blue ribbon and got her into a frilly bed jacket just before her sweet hubby arrived. She was so happy! When he came in and saw her, he got tears in his eyes and he was so happy to see her that he just poured out love and smiles. I left and closed the door so they could share the moment. I still think about them and what a small, simple act made both of them so happy. Hang on to your good memories. Sometimes that's all you're left with.

    I've cared for Alzheimer victims (yes victims as they are robbed of everything) and all of them still have a strong connection with their spouse. Their minds can't remember but their hearts never forget.

    My dad and brother just came home from my grandparents house. My grandpa didn't know who my brother was and couldn't remember his name today. My brother said this at the dinner table and my mom said to my dad that this has been going on for five years, his memory gradually getting worse. Mt grandparents are in denial and refuse to take him to the doctor. I just learned of this, and price together all the times grandpa has forgotten little things. I'm not close with my grandparents, I'm with them at major celebrations or birthdays but nothing more. This makes me feel even worse, knowing I've wasted all this time I could have been using to get to know my grandpa, because who knows how much more time I have.
    Please call your grandparents and tell them that you love them, because you really never know what the future holds.
