I had a suggestion of interviewing some of the shuyookh who left hizbut-tahrir, 2 of them founding i3 institute, to figure out what some of the shortcomings that they're trying to address. Would be great to discuss and figure what some of these movements need to resolve to be more successful in their goal for reviving the khilafa based on prophetic method.

Thank you so much for this discussion, indeed it’s the need of time. Just as an audience who loves your videos, I want to share a slightly different perspective. I see so many signs of success of this movement rather than failure. if the premise that a movement has failed is to be reversed and the same questions are asked, as of today we see huge milestones near to the eventual goal. One of the objectives of the sincere movement (that never shifted stance) is to intellectually elevate the ummah with pure concepts of Islam so that they recognize the authenticity of real change when that happens and embrace it like change was welcomed in the city state of Madinah. The fact that the world is ready now is one huge milestone of success. How the color in the beaker changes with drops of a certain chemical can only be measured by those keeping tabs on the number of drops, the prominent color change to pink will be visible to all eventually. People might find it sudden but for that the efforts are consistent. This is success in the making. Change is just around the corner InshaaAllah Aziz. May all these movements be like streams that end up in the same river.

Interesting discussion. I am surprised that Jaan discussed Brotherhood, Hizbut Tahrir, and even Qaeda, but didn't discuss Jamaat Islami! A major organization in three large-Muslim populated countries.
Paul, you asked for new configurations of "Islamic movements". This is a very interesting exploration and should be done by "breaking the pattern". Please explore Tehreek-e-Insaf of Imran Khan in Pakistan --- can't fit neatly into the "Islamic movements" definition, but isn't it a new configuration ... And quite effective too. Listen to Imran Khan's vision of Riasat-e-Medina (the State of Medina). Refreshing and inspiring, transcending the terminologies and slogans employed by the current Islamic movements.

Why is Iran never mentioned in discussions about the Islamic world? It's not so much about this particular podcast, it's just that I've noticed it's either never mentioned or downplayed in all the western Digital Muslim channels, with Daniel being the exception. Is it because they are Shia? I don't know much at all about the caliphate, but surely an Islamic revolution country is worth mentioning in this regard, the Taliban got a shout out after all

Shura Council along with pre existing body of Scholars(Learned individuals in Islamic System of governance)select a panel of Trustworthy individuals.

In Islamic jurisprudence, while the sanctity of the Athan is deeply revered, scholars have recognized nuanced exceptions for beneficial speech, particularly in contexts of teaching and communal benefit. This allowance stems from the broader principle of balancing reverence for religious rituals with the necessity of fulfilling communal duties and spreading beneficial knowledge.
Imam Nawawi, a prominent scholar of Hadith and Islamic jurisprudence, articulated that fulfilling beneficial needs and educating the community are priorities that align with the spirit of Islamic teachings. His commentary on the hadith traditions highlights the Prophet Muhammad's encouragement of knowledge dissemination and community welfare, suggesting that these pursuits are not to be unduly hindered even during sacred moments like the Athan.
Similarly, Ibn Qudamah, known for his contributions to Islamic legal theory, posited that in matters of educational discourse and community guidance, permissible speech during the Athan can be justified under the principle of maslahah (public interest). This principle underscores the Islamic ethical framework, which values the greater good and societal benefit.
Therefore, while maintaining silence and attentiveness during the Athan is a recommended practice to honor its spiritual significance, Islamic scholarship acknowledges legitimate exceptions for constructive dialogue and teaching that contribute to the well-being and enlightenment of the community."
This statement provides a nuanced perspective, drawing from Islamic jurisprudence and scholarly interpretations, to support the allowance of beneficial speech during the Athan in certain contexts.

I think we need to give credit to some of the Islamic political movements for the huge contribution both spiritually and politically.
If am not wrong most of these social media scholars who command huge fan bass come from these political movements and what we need to understand re establishing khilafah is not a walk in the park or just have a couple of Islamic intellectuals and giving yourselves a big name and you are good to go, "NO"
By now we're all aware that khilafah would be re established wether by one of these movements or any other movement that follows the prophetic methodology.
If we may ask ourselves from all these movements regardless wether they have achieved their objectives or not and we all know that the objective is to re establish islam following the footsteps of our beloved prophet (pbuh) and establishing the state needs the nusra of Allah (swt) and i guess some of you guys fail to understand no matter how your movement is prepared you still need the support of Allah (swt) and this is where most of you get it wrong when you combine the support that comes from the Creator and the delay in achieving our goal.
Shifting from one Islamic political party or movement doesn't mean the methodology of these movements are wrong but islam creates a conducive environment of the difference of opinions and whoever feels not comfortable with one political party let him form his own or see what best he can do for islam.

Juwairiyah (radhi Allaahu anha) reported that one day the Prophet, peace be upon him, left her apartment in the morning as she was busy observing her dawn prayer in her place of worship. He came back in the forenoon and she was still sitting there. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said to her, “You have been in the same place since I left you?” She said, “Yes.” Thereupon the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, “I recited four words three times after I left you and if these were to be weighed against what you have recited since morning these would outweigh them, and these words are:
      سُبْحـانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْـدِهِ عَدَدَ خَلْـقِه ، وَرِضـا نَفْسِـه ، وَزِنَـةَ عَـرْشِـه ، وَمِـدادَ كَلِمـاتِـه

The caliphate of the ottomans did not fail but rather it succumbed to change. That's how empires have been throughout history. Humans are also born to resist what doesn't suit them be it individually or collectively.
The saying, Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create wesk men, weak men create bad times.
This can be true of strong leaders who carved an empire in tough times and their children are born into Good times therefore them not as strong as leaders which leads to problems in the empire. Muslims are back in hard times and hard times ............. ? 🎉

As if "restoring the Calaphate" will fix everything wrong with the Umah!! Remember that the islamic umah for most of its history of almost 15 centuries wasn't ruled by a single caliphate and very early on parts of the umah was ruled by different rulers like the Umayad in Spain and Abasids in other parts. Parts like India, North Africa was even semi self-governing. The problems Muslims face nowadays isn't due to the fact that we aren't ruled by a single caliphate and the caliphate didn't end in 1924 that year was the end of the ottoman state (its not even a caliphate since the caliphs according to the prophetic tradition, will only be from Quraych)

What was the purpose of the Caliphate? During the time of the prophet's death the Caliphate was designed to serve the purpose of promoting Islam's message of the moral stand in which Allah gave all of us the quality to distinguish between good and bad, meaning 'cultivating Iman', as the only way to reach heaven. The Caliph was the steadfast leader who didn't waver from this mindset. This gave strength to the followers, making Islam as a success.

The solution to the problem of the stagnation of Islamic society is to try to overcome the forces of cultural stasis that hold it in their grip. It will begin with the epistemological humility of fallibilism and will continue with the optimistic idea that all ideas about what is true and good can be improved upon indefinitely. It is the chimaera of epistemological certainty and the belief in the a priori perfection of Islamic ideas about what is true and good that is keeping Islamic culture down.

@@NeilEvans-xq8ik First, where did I blame the West for Islamic society's problems? Second, if you've read philosophy you would know that the notion that what is "true and good can be improved upon indefinitely" is one epistemological position amongst many. For much of human history, truth and goodness were considered timeless as well as retrievable. That was the position that undergirded much of Islamic philosophy when Muslim philosophers "used to do a lot of that". God was the highest authority and it was His revelation that gave us goodness and truth. But now, as Carl Schmitt's analysis has shown, God has been ontologically replaced by the modern nation state. And when you replace God with nation state (something which historically is contingent and constructed upon certain metaphysical premises on human nature and morality), then of course you're going to face an epistemic rupture in your society that will lead to the death of its intellectual sciences. The issue isn't that Muslims think of their ideas as a prior perfect but that due to a number of historical events, they've been disconnected from the epistemology that led to the development and flourishing of their native intellectual sciences. And such an epistemology, once returned to, does not have to resemble the type of Hegelianism you're advocating for.

    • @NeilEvans-xq8ik

@ibrahimmir1399 LOL. That’s better. Now you sound a little more intelligent than when you simply pop up and insult me. You shouldn’t be surprised when I respond in kind. Can we now bring the conversation within the limits of civilised discourse? I’ll start with this: thank you for your response. I apologise for my statements earlier.
And I’ll continue with this: I’m not a Hegelian. I’m a Popperian, which is to say, a Critical Rationalist. Hegelian epistemology is a very poor rival. Knowledge grows not by dialectic but by conjectures and refutations. It takes place within traditions of criticism. It exists but does not grow in traditions of authority. Cultures based on traditions of criticism stand a chance of survival in the long term. Cultures based on traditions of authority may survive for a while but will ultimately die. This isn’t true because Karl Popper says so. It’s true because there is such a thing as the Unknown, which will always send us problems our current knowledge will be inadequate to deal with, meaning we will always have to create more, forever, through fallible conjecture and critical refutation.
But unlike the majority of my fellow Popperians (for now at least) I view Islam with great respect. My previous criticism was directed only towards the simplistic fundamentalist and authoritarian form of the religion that has developed in the modern world in response to the challenge posed by the culture of Modernity, a shift within Islam that has its parallels in all religious traditions that have encountered it. I lament this shift, because it led to the demise not only of the intellectual sciences, as you put it, but also to the marginalisation of the spiritual sciences, if you will, to be found within the various traditions of Sufism, for example.
You see, I have come to see the practices of meditation found within these spiritual sciences, as I have called them (which are also found within other religious traditions), as being a kind of ‘rationality of the heart’, a kind of process of conjecture and refutation of our emotions, brought about by the stilling and steadying of our faculty of attention, itself brought about by what is called in Islam ‘zikr’, I believe.
I lament the loss of these traditions because I view my own culture of Modernity as being in dire need of them. We are skilled in the kind of external progress that our thriving intellectual sciences, our traditions of criticism, bring about. But we lost touch with our own native spiritual sciences, our traditions of Christian contemplative prayer, centuries ago with the “Enlightenment”. Consequently, we are not at all skilled in this kind of internal progress that is characteristic of religious traditions the world over.
This form of Islam, one based on this struggle against the ego, as opposed to the form based on the mere insistence upon the certainty of Islamic doctrine, is perfectly compatible with traditions of criticism, because, if I’m right, it is one itself! And just like the culture of Modernity needs this tradition of struggle against the ego, so too does Islamic culture need to re-develop its own traditions of criticism to lift itself out of its current predicament.
How about we meet half way?

    Reviving Caliphate?
    Really!?
    What Caliphate?
Let's face it, there was no Caliphate worthy of this title, that supposedly ended a hundred years ago. None! Never!
In reality, there was an emperor whose rule came to an end with the collapse of the Ottoman Empire after their defeat in WW 1.
The real Caliphate ended 1363 years ago in the year AD 661, with the assassination of the fourth Pious Caliph Ali Ibn Abi Taleb.
What followed were worldly empires ruled by emperors with no Islamic legitimacy.
That fig leaf was removed with the collapse of the Ottoman empire.
God has created all men and women as His Caliphs on earth.
Reviving Caliphate would mean empowering every single individual man and woman, and according him and her their natural rights and freedoms as bestowed on humans by their Creator. All those rights are being denied to the humans in all Muslim countries. This is in blatant rebellion against God Almighty.
Reviving the Caliphate would mean empowering all citizens , granted them their rights and freedoms to life, ;liberty and pursuit of happiness.
That would be the revival of real Caliphate on earth.
    With due respect.
    Salaam
    Cheers.

The Khalifat system is not prophetic, so why to restore it ? Or "resurrect" it ? The prophetic system is based on the sunnah. The sunnah is clear enought ; the best among us should lead us, his morality, generosity, compassion, etc. Or just follow myths out of the sunnah of the prophet Muhammad, salla Allah a'layhi wa sallama. Ok, youtube erased my comment to the shia' bellow : he believes in shia's myth, a complete broken islamic creed. The mahdi and all myth around this affair was invented by shia'. So he claimed that Ali's offspring are all pure, while Ibrahim pray Allah for his offspring, and only the pious will recieve Allah's favor was the respond, but for shia', all Ali's offspring are pur. Shia's follow jews broken creed. Then this shia' said the best among muslim, the leader according to Muhammad tradition (saws) is corrupted, a total non sens. Muslims need to understand terminologies in their lives like Fundamentalist, Islamist, and Extremist .The Fundamentalist calls for the full practice of Islam at least in their private lives and invites society as a whole to do the same, most often this is done in a Muslim majority country but can be advocated in minority settings and can be done irrespective to the government system in power at the time. While the Islamist wants the same but differs from the Fundamentalist in political change, with a call for Islamic rule in the land by the sovereignty of the Sharia over the nation state dictations and laws . And the Extremist is a call for Islamic values and laws regardless of how they agree or disagree with the Universal Declaration of Human rights or Democracy and Capitalism of the Western powers or the Communism and Socialism of the Eastern. If the interpretation of Islam calls for any Social change, then this is considered the lower Extremism and must be sabotaged. And if it calls for Political change then this is the mid range Extremism , red alert . And if it calls for change by Military means then this is the highest level and it must be utterly destroyed. All three types must be stopped and each range increases the level of urgency , from radical to extreme to terrorism. There's only one acceptable form of Islam and it's the private and conformist type accompanied with apolitical and pacifist tendencies.

The United States and its allies have grown from being Colonialists to becoming Imperialists and have a global hegemony through military might, economic dominance, international banking , mass media and global corporate conglomerations.Whereas it's secular society's affects on information that effect the private lives of the Muslims daily, as many aspire to live American and European lifestyles with declining religiosity as the trend. While public life is impacted by Liberal culture and ideas, wherein the Sunna of Rasullah, and the Halal and Haram doesn't play a significant role in cultural influences and what is enforced in those societies, rather mass media tendencies and commercial consumerism continues to shape the culture there . All nation states reserve the right and privilege to have sovereignty over the authority of the Sharia, as they deem fit and as an intricate part of the Taghut system of the UN ; Liberal Democracy, Secularism and Free Market Capitalism must sweep the world as part and parcel World Order have commissioned. The goal of uniting the Umma under a Khalifate by Islamists is the whole purpose of the Western and Eastern blocks unifying to stop Political and Militant forms of Islam , and to minimize public and societal Islamic influence and to prevent their institutions from growing and strengthening. The ultimate hope is to render Islam a relic of the past and to make it merely a private religious tradition as a choice provided under Liberalism held to the reforms agreed in " Moderate Islam".
