      That's what the racks are for, the plastic isn't designed to be there without the racks to protect it. I would have simply left the racks on, that's the only complaint I have about the build. The stock front bumper on a Grizzly is crappy anyway, so replacing it with anything is an improvement. It could still be a sport utility with the racks still on. The reason it feels sportier is because you added power with the efi remapping and exhaust and upgrades in shocks and new wheel and tire combo. Yes, you saved a few lbs by removing the racks but you expose the flimsy plastic without the racks to protect it. The Scrambler DOES have racks, they're just very small and can't hold more than a small cooler or maybe a small toolbox just in case something happens trailside. Put the racks back on and I don't think you'll notice any difference except that it won't be quite as easy to get the front end in the air. Funny thing is, even with the racks on and completely stock, it still weighs less than either an 800 Renegade or 850 Scrambler. With irs, cvt and big twin cylinder engines, they're not exactly featherweights. Weight was never the issue for the Grizzly, power and handling was and with the upgrades, you significantly improved that. Even the new 450 4x4 sport utility from Arctic Cat weighs about the same as the Grizzly 700 and has LESS power.

    • @allysonand
      @allysonand 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Greg Rowe it will be just as easy to get the front end up with the racks, they aren't heavy at all

    I'm thoroughly impressed guys. That thing looks aggressive enough to be in the same class. And probably rides a whole lot better over stock. I saw someone suggested Yamaha put in a twin. That would put it in the running for sure. I think 'ole Yamaha should take a closer look at this thing. As for everybody's comments about things flopping around and all that...... What do you expect when you take a die grinder to plastic fenders!? (Also the racks aren't there to keep it all together, that's why the fenders curve downward on the outer edges, 90 degree bends cause rigidity.)

  • @mitchellheath1837
    @mitchellheath1837 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    How to make your utility quad more like a sport quad:
    1. Sell the utility quad.
    2. Buy a sport quad.
    3. ???
    4. Profit.
    Utility quads are for you know, utility! All that stuff he did on that track, a sport quad was built for and will outperform a 4x4.

But I was thinking more like a 450 which is actually faster than a 700 stock for stock. crazy how much scrub that suspension has in it, at 4:58 the tires went full on toe in/heal out, looks like if yamaha does come out with a race version they will need to rework that suspension set up so that you don't have so much heel in when the suspension is fully extended to heal out/toe in when fully compressed, would love if you guys took the front shocks off of that build and assessed the difference of toe/heel change as you cycle through suspension travel, Loved the build but dang that is a major issue

    Should have had the sheave machined for more bottom and top end. Still a pretty neat build. I also think it needed some aluminum brackets to help that fender flop.

    Great experiment and Yamaha could make a bike like this to add diversity as an alternative to the regular set-up of a Grizzly 700. The light housings and fenders need to be stiffened up though. I imagine the shocks would make for a plusher ride over OEM shocks. The bars and stem look good too.

    Pretty sweet I like how you ditched the bumper for yfz. I have been looking into a suspension upgrade for my grizz. Really want longer a-arms but you achieved a good width with the wheels I think. I'm not a fan of wheel spacers and I run 12" douglas red labels that I would never change. If only a company made sport a-arms. How's the bump-steer considering the width?
    Doing a tear down this winter for bigger valves and porting and some other odds and ends. Going to stay on 93 octane tho. I'll share when I'm finished.

      +tmills572 Go with some Elkas on all 4 corners. The best upgrade I ever made to my Grizzly. People are always impressed how this 4x4 can run with the sport quads and handle jumps like an MX bike.

    Looks nice, but not a fan of the headlights wobbling on the ends of the front fenders because the front bumper provided them support. Need to brace them up...

    Responding to the scrambler and the renegade comment at the end. Did you forget about the raptor 700? Or did you mean including the 4x4 and other utilities

    You guys need to reinforce those fenders around the headlights, really wobbly on the bumps. Other than that, great job!
