    As always great Video Steven! I'll be getting my unit later this week and after seeing this I'm even more stoked. I was a little afraid that my evostar 72 with a small guide scope would be too heavy for the mount but now I'm not that concerned anymore. Enjoy your Gti and clear skies bud!

    Great images Steven. Glad you have a good GTI mount. I have owned one for a couple of months and it needed a bit of work to get going properly. The USB connection was unreliable. (fixed with the recent firmware upgrades).
    The biggest issue is the play in the RA axis which would get worse with use. Mine had a habit of the RA screw loosening by itself which allowed plenty of slop between the worm and the main gear. I finally solved it with a but of plumbers tape to prevent the RA screw from getting loose. Now I am happy to say the mount works really well. I have a bunch of photos of the internals over on Cloudynights in the Gti thread.
    Cheers.

    I got my GTi two weeks ago, and I echo your comments. The performance, both tracking and pointing, far exceeds my expectations. I plan on usually pairing it with my DSLR and Redcat 51 with no guiding as a portable rig. A Redcat 71 would also work nicely and, with camera, would be just about at the 5kg load capacity.

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Portable is key, no way I could pick up my twin rasa system with mount and move it inside with one arm lol. The GTI was like a feather.
      Performance is great so far, can’t wait to get out with it again.

    I have been using my Sky-Watcher AZ GTi mount since I took up the hobby in August 2023, until last night. I could only take 10-20 total exposures before field rotation started eating my photo.
    Last night, I took my new Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTI mount out and found I could polar align using Sharp Cap and take 60 minute total exposures with no field rotation. So, it looks like I will be able to take total exposures of several hours now. I do not use guiding, but I only do 8 second exposures and stack as I go.
    Oh, and I just subscribed.

    Thanks for posting, my GTI is doing great, and I'm liking the comments below to help me with my future purchases. Right now I'm just learning my way around the night sky, and having a ball with this tracker (and getting shots I am really pleased with) using only my RX10 Mk4 . I'm glad I haven't bought anything else yet, as I am still learning, and the more I find out about this hobby, the more convinced I am that waiting until you are more knowledgeable is the right thing to do! Eventually EAA has got to be in there for me, and after your video I checked out ASIAIR, which looks to be a very useful thing indeed. Yes, I'm finding polar alignment in the Southern Hemisphere is a pain in the a* :) Being able to get a bit deeper into the sky (like I can with my 10 inch Dobsonian) could be something I will want eventually, so the comment below about the C5 is very interesting. For me, it might win out over getting better pictures at my current camera focal length (600mm equiv max) than buying (say) Redcats.

    Here's a tip - use a lens cap keeper on the SA GTi's polar scope cap. You'll be less likely to lose it if (when) it becomes detached from the unit. I actually fastened the elastic loop normally circling a lens, to the underside of the unit where it screws into/onto the tripod plate. I suppose you can also use a lens cap keeper for the little battery housing screw and/or the housing itself. Up to you.

      So in your SynScan Pro app you do the following….
      Utility

    wonderful Steven! I have a question knowing you are also in the southern hemisphere (Im in Chile), the thing is I have been follow a thread about the SA Gti on cloudynights forum and someone wrote something a bit concerning, and I quote:
    "I feel that the built it illuminated polar scope is not fit for purpose. Since the rotation of the octants image reticle in the polar scope is dependent on turning the RA mechanism and that mechanism is restricted to approx 190 degrees then octants image can only be rotated about the axis for about 6 months of the year."
    what do you thnk about this?
    I have been waiting to buy it, since I have Star Adventurer Mini (SAM) and Star Adventurer "classic" and it would be the next logical step I think, but i have read in the forum a lot of things about QC some of the units with noticeable backlash, stiffness and others, so it seems that you are one of the lucky ones! Thanks in advance and greetings from Chile!

    • @StevenMorrisPhotography
      @StevenMorrisPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rodrigo,
      That’s actually a good question. Polar alignment for me has always been done via software rather than a polar scope as it’s an absolute pain, which I’m sure you can agree on. If your used to it then it would be a breeze.
      As for the polar scope I really haven’t looked at, I will have to check it out though myself. So I can’t answer that just yet sorry.
      It seems I must be lucky to have a model that is working as intended.

    Any idea what percentage of your 180s subs turned out without trails? My Gti is reasonable with a few 'yips' when auto guiding but pretty good value for the money. I'm running a Zenithstar 61 with an Askar fma 180 for the guide / widefield scope which is at the mounts' weight limit. A few people have mentioned the Redcat 51 - good idea! A dictatorship? lol You don't know how fortunate you are! Move to Russia, China or North Korea, and then you can experience the pleasures of being under a real dictator. lol

    I guess your tracking without guiding was quite good as your set up was unbalanced and was heavy on the east side (gears were always under load resulting in no backlash). If you were shooting an object which would require telescope on the west side, tracking accuracy without guiding could be a different story with your unbalanced setup. Dark and clear skies.
