    Oh man, C5 RS6, that takes me back. I had a test drive of an ABT-tuned one (550ps) and the Audi dealer was right next to a long section of unrestricted autobahn. As is the norm in Germany, they take a photocopy of your id/passport, make you sign a form, and then throw you the keys and say "be back in an hour". I got it up to 175mph, it was wild and crazy. #GoodTimes. I ended up buying an A6 2.7 Turbo instead, more than enough power, but that RS6 was fun 😁

    Mine isn't a manual, but Mugello blue with silver interiour, upgraded transmission and 512PS. My childhood dreamcar. It's true, the seats are too high in this car, especially when you're 1,90m but the boot is very spacious. Just two days ago I transported easily four 19" rims in cartons and four 275/30 19 tyres in the trunk all at once. I own it for about a month now and it is so much better than I hoped! Perfect cruiser, zooms to 200km/h in no hassle and time, perfect for country roads, very stable at 300 on the Autobahn with corners and thanks to double glass windows so quiet. I really love it

      Mine's also Mugello, albeit wrapped in Satin Graphite atm. Had it totally rebuilt just before Covid, packing 550hp now and just finished a road-trip UK->Krakow plus detours (2,000km+). Is a beast and had no problems - except NEVER drive these cars over cobbled roads when 40 or less profile tyres. Killed electrics all over the car twice before rebuild. Love that it is not a flashy car, a true wolf in sheepish attire, is practical but drinks like a viking marauding party, sounds like Thor stubbing his toe and when it starts up in underground car parks, you can set other car alarms off. Is great fun and the kids in the back go wild.! ;-)

Quick estates bring back happy memories of following the old Lombard RAC rally route every year with a bunch of mates - guerrilla spectating, stage-hopping, getting stuck in the snow, driving through the night, kipping in the seats or snoozing in the back...
    Sandwiches, flasks of tea, Pot Noodles, choccy digestives, fizzy pop, the bellow of an approaching Quattro or 6R4 echoing through Kielder and Grizedale...

    That’s a rare rs6 plus. Only 57 uk rhd were ever on the road - now much less than that. The light silver metallic paint was only on the plus version and power out of the factory was 480bhp and a raised speed limit to 174mph. I owned a silver one in 2009 to 2010 and I thought that was mine initially. Luckily mine had a full Audi extended warranty and during 18 months the engine was out 4 times - be very aware of reliability issues..!

    • @GERntleMAN
      @GERntleMAN หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@stevebatt9643 No reliability issues. There are very few things engine wise which you have to look for. Much less than the competitors. Turbos like on any car, especially when people don't know how to drive turbos, the turbo manifolds, the circulation pump for turbo cooling, the throttle body and camshaft tensioners. Oh and there is one pressure tube on the left side intercooler, the lower one ages prematurely and slips off on boost. That's about the worst stuff, where half of it is proper service. There is a reason there are still so many on the road and for sale with 300.000km in Germany. They are extremely reliable when it comes to high performance high volume cars. An M5 or E55 aren't more reliable and there isn't much else in that class of car from that year/era. The difference is, no one talks about a Peugeot 206 or Opel Astra and their issues, but an RS6 is an investment and so you subjectively inflate problems which aren't out of the ordinary really

    I used to seriously covet these cars back when they were new! This (and to some extent the C6 gen) was from the time when performance Audi styling was still tastefully discreet and understated, and also before the RS badge became common and associated with obnoxious types. Things have certainly changed since then, and not entirely for the better it must be said. Respect to anyone willing/able to put in the time and money to keep these old monsters going, because they are not easy or cheap to work on! They are incredibly versatile machines though, and hark back to that lovely era when Audi was still something of a cool and alternative prestige brand.

    This is undoubtedly THE best looking RS 6 of them all, and one of the best looking Audis of all time. Truly a golden age of car design, compared to which the modern ones looks absolutely hideous and ghastly. Audi design language really has gone down the drain after the 2000s, although that can be said for most other brands as well.

      While I agree on dire stylings of most modern cars, what I find surprising is how few people realise it’s intentional. Ask yourself if it’s plausible that all the talented automotive designers retired in the early noughties, or instead all lost the plot. It’s not. Therefore, there’s been a coordinated auto make cars equally awful. This will be because, like all publicly traded corporations, equity custodians can & do twist the arms of company boards. Knowing what’s good for their professional careers, they almost all complied.
      Interestingly, nothing similar seems to have happened to motorcycle manufacturers. Their products, the sporty ones anyway, retain sins of passionate designers.

      @@GT380man I'm indeed aware of such a possibility (although I cannot 100% surely say that that's what it is), but I will also say that a large majority of car designers do seem to have lost the plot. Because not only are the production cars hideous, but the concepts (which are not supposed to be hindered by regulations and laws) are just as awful. With the possible exception of Porsche, I don't think there's a single mainstream car brand today that has made a truly timelessly beautiful car in over a decade. Just look at sports cars and performance cars from the 90s and 00s, absolutely gorgeous. Today? I could hardly name a handful.

    Audi probably makes the best sport wagons out there. But I must say, I'm disappointed with the exhaust note on this one. But that's about the only thing I can as a fault with this car. Looks great for a wagon. Even in silver.

    The "Ultra-Rare" Manual Audi C5. Boy my heart breaks at such a thing, lack of choice and manual transmissions these days. Whatever happened to: "If you want it done right, Do it Yourself?" Or : "If it isn't broke, Don't Fix it"? Manual transmissions can be simple yet elegant if done right. It's the connection to the car and being in control that makes a manual transmission such a perfect way to drive an automobile. Next, you'll tell me soon cars can drive themselves and I won't need to steer either. And that I'll win the lottery and be a millionaire.

      No, I think out of an A6 Allroad. I'd guess the prop shaft from the allroad can be used also but being the same engine in the B7 RS4 the gearbox would probably be ok in one of these. Maybe they're harder to obtain and costlier out of the RS4.
