great to see something really innovative
This might actually be the first indoor option that I would use. In the 'final' form that is.
This is for the Rouvy rider, but I’d love to see an IndieVelo integration with this. Graphics and immersion of this platform with the racing of IndieVelo would be amazing
Great video Des - very interesting. I wish the makers the best of luck. High end, real innovation. It deserves to succeed.
He's come up with a great idea and some cool technology. Eager to see where they are at in 6 months. Thanks!
Love the cave works bike in the background!!
WOULD BUY IT
Super interesting product concept. I heard you and Ray talking about this on the podcast and I was very curious about 1) how you would film and show this and 2) why this company is going direct to consumer and not looking to get picked up by a smart bike trainer company or maybe Zwift? 🤔 Amazing video that sounded 👌
The founder is definitely passionate about the project so I'd guess he wants to see his vision through. And thanks for the audio discussion on the side!
I was expecting an insane price but it's around 2.5k on Kickstarter. That's along the lines of the Zwift bike and you get a powerful PC and display with it. The price definitely makes it very attractive!
I am more interested in its real world data to generate the paths than the 3D / holographic / immersive features. True exploration 🌍
Cool concept! I hope they are successful. I’d be concerned about no rocker board compatibility too. I think they should build in movement under the bike an account for that and just make it an ultra premium product that can also run Zwift etc from the display. Or… maybe team up with wahoo and build the visual on top of a wahoo bike?
Really good to see companies who are not going the Zwift route. This is probably not going to change the world but the next company that does something different may nail it 👍🏻 Still waiting for the entire bike to
Be on a gyroscope too
What’s the Zwift route?
@@goosedaddy graphics from 90’s Sega Genesis
I would be fine with 4k AI video to accommodate my workouts. 2D is just fine. Say, I wanna ride in mountains, and every time it generates unique route.
It's an interesting idea. It skirts around the biggest problem with autostereoscopic displays, which is that they're only good from one viewing position at a time; you're not going to be watching this with anyone else, as it's a solo device. If they can iron out the responsiveness so the angle adjustment keeps up with what the LiDAR camera is seeing, it could be fairly convincing. It's like a more advanced version of the New Nintendo 3DS.
The big downside I see is that, in my experience, all stereoscopic displays are fatiguing to look at after a while. There are some mechanisms of human stereo vision that they simply cannot replicate. See the vergence-accommodation conflict for an easy example.
It looks like they are using Intel RealSense to track your face. Maybe Luxonis' OAK series camera can provide better tracking performance.
Cool idea!
Would be great to have Kickstarter link in a description!
Done! Thanks for the reminder
I'll stick to the outdoors for realism. Indoor riding is TV / TH-cam time 😅
Looks like an expensive tech demo if honest. That said, the tech may be useful in the future when everyone will be wearing VR glasses (not headsets) and riding in similar environments alongside each other. You can't beat that for immersion. I have an example on my channel of a Zwift like VR app using a smart bike (dynamic resistance). Immersion is unbelievable, but the mass market won't tolerate headset sweat factor.
Is that the prototype 'smart' bike next to you during your comments direct to camera?
That’s a smart bike trainer frame that DCR and I talked about on the podcast
Thought so! Interested to see how this compares with the Zwift Ride.
The market will be so niche for this. If I want to immerse myself really good I ride outside. I do not plan to fake reality in my pain cave, which is for structured workout and winter/rainy days. Nice tech demo though and I absolutely would want such a monitor for my desk or living room.
Do wintery and rainy days *need* to be painful? :-)
The galsses for 3D tvs (tht never took off) wouldnt have been too bad to ride in.
It looks great but it's going to be so expensive, I don't know who is going to buy this.
It is 2.5 k on kickstarter now. Seems cheaper than top tier Zwift.
Holographic display can't just be lipstick on a pig. It's gotta be the best trainer on the market first to succeed.
I ride indoors because I hate the outdoors. Why anyone would actively try to bring the boredom of outdoor, into a fun TV indoor environment simply boggles me
