  • In the conclusion to the epic action-adventure Baahubali, when Bhallaladeva conspires against his brother to become the king of Magizhmadhi, he has him killed by Katappa and imprisons Baahubali's wife. Years later, his brother's son returns to avenge his father's death. Does this conclusion deliver on the story we were promised? This stars Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah, Anushka Shetty, Sathyaraj, Ramya Krishnan, Nassar, and Subbaraju and is directed by S.S. Rajamouli. Thanks for checking out my Baahubali 2: The Conclusion movie review!

Great review. It's said that the success from Bahubali 1 and 2 is what created the budget for even crisper CGI investments in RRR, but as a story line based on fiction, I enjoyed Bahubali series more than RRR. Rajamouli's ability to conceive grand scale story telling with a cinematic engaging experience makes him a unique director. I still hope you will get to review another recommendation "Jallikattu" in your mix as well 🙂

Sivagami is not Bahubali’s mom.. she is his aunt (his uncle’s wife).. She is Bhallaladeva’s mom & the handicapped man’s wife.. she took over the throne after Bahubali’s parents are killed coz her husband was handicapped so he was always resentful of her. She raises Bahubali as her own.

Loved your review. The Nativity of the language does impact how it across in the story and because those nuances are lost in the subtitles same thing will seem unnatural and manipulative in English so I understand your disconnect regarding that. VFX does fall short when compared to Hollywood movies or even RRR, I agree with you there.
I love the character of Devsena (The princess) especially which elevated the movie and the love story for me. I am glad you enjoyed it.

Bahubali, a cinematic masterpiece directed by S.S. Rajamouli, stands as a magnum opus in the realm of Indian cinema. Released in two parts, "Bahubali: The Beginning" in 2015 and "Bahubali: The Conclusion" in 2017, this epic tale has left an indelible mark on the audience, earning both critical acclaim and massive box office success.
The narrative unfolds in the fictional kingdom of Mahishmati, revolving around the power struggle for the throne. The central characters, Amarendra Bahubali and Bhallaladeva, embody the classic dichotomy of good versus evil. Prabhas, who portrays the titular character, delivers a compelling performance, seamlessly transitioning between the noble Bahubali and his doppelganger, Shivudu.
The film's visual grandeur is unparalleled, with breathtaking landscapes, elaborate sets, and groundbreaking special effects. Rajamouli's visionary direction combined with the stellar cinematography by K.K. Senthil Kumar creates a visual feast that transports the audience to the fantastical world of Mahishmati.
One of the film's standout features is its gripping screenplay, intricately weaving together elements of drama, action, and romance. The well-developed characters, especially the strong female leads played by Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah Bhatia, add depth and substance to the storyline. The emotional resonance of the film is heightened by the evocative musical score composed by M.M. Keeravani.
Bahubali also redefines the concept of scale in Indian cinema. The colossal battle sequences, particularly in the second installment, showcase cutting-edge choreography and VFX, setting a new benchmark for Indian filmmakers. The film's success has transcended regional boundaries, garnering international attention and accolades.
Furthermore, the film's socio-cultural impact is notable. It revitalized interest in Indian mythology and historical narratives, sparking discussions about the potential of Indian cinema on the global stage. The iconic character of Bahubali has become a symbol of strength and virtue, resonating with audiences beyond the confines of the film.
In conclusion, Bahubali stands as a cinematic marvel that seamlessly blends storytelling, visual spectacle, and cultural significance. It has not only elevated the standards of Indian cinema but has also become a cultural phenomenon, leaving an enduring legacy in the annals of film history.

I dont watch movies. But i love music. I like music from movies because it is grand in every aspect. Instruments, lyrics, sets, dancing, budget, fusion between classical and modern, how they are able to work with music and dance maestros... something that i dont see from even biggest music labels in america. And i wish they never stop making such music. I hope foreigners will adjust themselves to this style of moviemaking, because we indians love it. 😊

Kudos to you for a review worthy of the film. Excellent observations and comments made in a thoughtful, intelligent manner. Like I said kudos. I like so many westerners stumbled into Indian cinema via RRR and then made the seemingly inevitable jump to Bahubali 1&2. Bahubali was an incredible, engaging, thrilling ride told in a way seemingly lost to so much of Western cinema these days. There just seems to be a sincerity and commitment from all parties involved that pull you in to this amazing world. The scale alone makes many other epics appear small in comparison. I have since seen Brahmastra and Gangubai and am in definite awe at the craft, skill and emotion from all these films. There are no snarky winks to the camera and no breaking of forth walls. Just enjoyable, dedicated movie making of the highest order. I'm very curious to see what if any mention RRR will receive from the Academy Awards this year. It certainly deserves more than a cursory mention. Hollywood should be a little nervous.

Bahubali 2 is basically an over sized Indian soap opera. if you ever get a chance watch some Indian soap opera like Saaa bhi kabhi bahu thi (mother in law was once a daughter in law too) --- on second thoughts don't -- you will be scarred for life. You will see exactly the same style of stuff daughter in law fighting with mother in law, husband caught in between, a jealous brother, a scheming family member. A single dramatic scene will be dragged out for an entire episode, there will not 10-20 reaction shots, dramatic sound effects, melodramatic acting and each character will have their own score which will literally change from sinister when the evil one is taking, to divine when the good one is talking in just a few seconds. There are no character with grays, nothing is subtle, even voice overs are used to tell the audience what the character is thinking. Bahubali is just like that, just on a bigger budget.
Before you think this is just the Indian idiosyncratic dramatic style. It's not at all, Indian dramatic tradition goes back thousands of years to the epic Mahabharata composed by Ved Vyassaa. Rajamouli says he is inspired from the Mahabharata in Bahubali, in fact a lot of the characters are adapted from it, but what he doesn't take and can't take because he lacks vyassaa talent to tell great characters, is it's sophistication. In the Mahabharata every single character is a shade of grey, in fact every character goes through such complex dilemmas, that even the audience cannot decide who is good and who is bad. It forces you into asking questions about moral philosophy, such as what makes an action moral is it the righteousness of the action or the consequences of actions. Even till today indian people debate over it. That is what great story writing should do, force you to contemplate and ask searching questions that bring you some kind of enlightenment and realization. That's our tradition of theatre and story telling and I'm proud of it.
I am not proud of masala movies like Bahubali, RRR that are from late 70s and 80 era. They are not art, they are purely commercial movies. You know they don't even have bound scripts-- producer literally puts a movie together by following a formula that will make the most money. A big star actor, a pretty heroin he dances with and a few song numbers with her, a evil villain, a final fight scene between them, some comedy, a few big stunts with no care for physics" Bahubali and RRR follow the same formula.
It does not matter where you come from in the world, Bollywood, Tollywood, Hollywood, China, South Korean, good cinema starts from writing a good script first. You need to have a story to tell first, with good developed characters with character arcs and a plot that tests the character, such as we see the character heroism through decisions they make in difficult circumstances. In Bahubali we have no arc --- nobody has an arc. Bahubali is Hercules and he just is with no explanation why. He effortlessly picks up giant stones; effortlessly wins over the princess; effortlessly wins wars; effortlessly becomes king. The plot has no situations that test him even once you show this man truly is a superhero. Hes just a superhero because he is on, he's Bahubali e and that's that Everybody is a cartoon character -- a cardboard cut out. Flat. Zero development.
I hope you graduate from watching cartoons to mature adult Indian cinema.

@@SunilKumar-vw6ol lol they don't make my mood better, they insult my intelligence. I love a good light hearted comedy and entertaining movie myself, I never said I want to watch art house movies, but in that case write a good comedy then, with funny rip roaring situations that elicit the 'hasya' raas. I used the Sanskrit word there on purpose, to show you we have understood the philosophy of art and aesthetics for thousands of years in great detail.
All filmmaking starts with a script. The script is off which the director, the cinematographer, art director and the actors work from. It an organic and collaborative art form. Masala movies dont work with scripts, they work with formula that are tried and tested. Cheap artless producers that treat cinema as nothing as more than business do that. Rajamouli is one of them, he even admits he's one of them, he says he never has a bound script
All the stages of filmmaking are that same for everybody in the world: pre-production, production and post production. Pre production is the basis of a good movie and it begins with a script. Hollywood producers have long realized this, they literally pay millions for a good script.
