i also started getting into GOT7 and jackson recently since last year and i had the same question as you. i think it's partly because he wants to be taken more seriously but also i think it's because he's getting older and it's just natural that as you get older you tend to act less and less goofy. it can seem a bit intense when you compare older and newer videos side by side but if you've grown along with him, it's not that extreme. he's still very cheerful and fun. depends on the project he's on. in the variety shows he did last year in china, he was really having fun in all of them. but when it comes to his music and team wang stuff, he's more serious. the more you get into him, the more you'll get used to his current personality. he's got a good balance of serious and fun. i do admit he's more on the serious side these days but that's because he's been working very hard on his album which is very important to him and he's been working on it for many years.

He's grown, and as he's said it's not like everything they did they wanted to. Also you're new, there's so much you don't know. Fans releasing the foreign lines addresses, Jacksons numerous accidents on his body, and him leaving for China and going solo "before" Got7 didn't renew their contract with JYP. Jackson was seen as a clown and not taken seriously because of his goofish behavior on variety tv which had a broader reach than even his music. As he said in his own words, people didn't even know he was a singer and that he wasn't taken seriously in Korea. Two interviews of him being very emotional explaining this is on TH-cam. He went on to say he knows who truely stood by him, plus he's grown and certain behavior won't gain him new fans overseas. Ask yourself why most asian artists aren't big in America? The crossdressing, always goofy, constantly loud fanservice won't get them leverage here other than young "alternative" fans. Jackson adjusts to his surroundings and that will continue to help him gain various fans in various countries "outside" of Asia and just music festivals. I dare say he may be the first to perform in the Superbowl halftime if he keeps this mature, rational, humorous, talented artist he puts out, I'm manifesting this and I don't even watch it.
