Man. Reviewing a convertible Mustang after LFA must be like having a hamburger with black coffee as a dessert after a wagyu A1 main course. Not necessarily complain if I’d ride in one, but it’d hit different initially.
That being said, great that this one has the older Modular in it. Truly feels like owning a successor to the 427 SOHC “cammer” motor from the 60’s.

In 2015, my boomer parents went on vacation out west, and pre-reserved a convertible "Mustang or similar" through Enterprise. When they got there, the agency apologized and said "we're all out of convertibles....and we only have one Mustang GT 5.0 here now, but... I'm so sorry, it's a stick shift". My parents begrudgingly took it, sad that they couldn't have a 'vert.
I spent THREE DAYS trying to explain to them that this was a literal blessing, not a curse. Freakin' boomers, man.

A few years ago, I believe it was Hertz that had a Mustang GT in their Atlanta int'l airport garage with a spec that was atypically nice for a rental fleet. I rented an S197 convertible (V6) back in 2005 on a trip to southern CA. The S197 had just come out, and the convertible was released after the coupe. The car had 100 miles, and people actually gave me a thumbs up and said “cool car!” as I rolled by. The V6 and auto were not very inspiring, but we always rented Mustangs on vacation and ponying* up for the droptop in Socal was well worth it! Put a lot of miles on that rental - from San Diego to Santa Barbara to Vegas and back.
I currently own an S197 Roush coupe, manual. 4.6l. Fun car. Guilty pleasure. Encourages you to act out - but that live axle will step out very easily, even on a highway onramp bridge joint, mid turn! A 500hp 650 coupe is tempting, but there is just something so fun about the basic S197. Oh, and the previous owner disabled traction control. Not sure how, either through a tune or pulling a fuse? It just doesn’t have it, so very easy to spin those 275’s out back.

I *FUCKING LOVE* my 2013 GT coupe. Got her at 70k miles in 2015 as my high school graduation present, was a dealer loaner. She’s now at 128k miles. Only thing that went out was the brake booster (2017, dealer replaced it for free) and ac compressor (last month) everything else was regular maintenance. Still running strong, oil changed every 3k miles, kept as close to stock as I could, only lowering it, upgrading brakes and thermostat. Hell I haven’t even tinted the windows lol.

Here's my little bit of Mustang rental/stick shift history. In 1966, Carroll Shelby worked with Hertz. The Early GT350Hs came with stick shifts, I actually sat in one at a local auction and IT WAS AWESOME!!!!! Early on, Hertz backed away from ordering stick shifts because the people renting them either couldn't drive a stick or beat the hell out of them and destroyed the clutches. I think that Hertz purchased less than 100 4-speed GT350Hs. Now in the 80s, I do believe some rental company, it could have been Hertz, purchased some Mustang SVOs which only came in a 5-speed manual.

I own a 2013 Mustang GT with a resonator delete and Roush axle back and it’s LOUD. Every time I hear it, it makes me happy and present in that exact moment.
The momentum and circumstance of life has brought me to places I didn’t think I would ever see (some good… some not so good).
But everytime I hop in my mustang, and hear the exhaust… I’m me again, present, and exactly where I know I’m supposed to be.
Cheers my fellow car enthusiasts! I hope you all have a great week!

I worked at an Enterprise Rent a Car and asked the same question about manuals when I first started there (2015/2016). I was told we didn’t see them hardly ever, mostly due to a majority of customers not being able to drive them. No policy against it, just why have cars the majority of customers couldn’t or didn’t want to drive. Now that was also right around the time the Enterprise Exotic branches were picking up and I heard speculation about some of the sports cars being available in manual, but I can’t confirm that either way. I haven’t worked there since 2016 so might be dated in my knowledge.

Former Enterprise employee here. They haven’t ordered manual cars for the US fleet in 10+ years, however I saw a manual car when working in upstate NY once. It was a Chevy Cruz from Canada, and they had it immediately pulled (wholesaled) once i put it in inventory. In Europe manual rentals are just as common as automatics which is kinda neat!

Back in 2011 as a porter at a Lincoln dealership, I got the pleasure of driving a brand new, only 400 miles on it 2011 Mustang GT500 SVT Cobra around the dealership parking lot. It's a pretty big and empty parking lot, so I had plenty of space to fool around. I took one of my coworkers with me, turned off traction control, it was a nice, sunny, warm day, and I went bananas! In first gear it took NOTHING to spin the tires! My whole time out there was basically just doing donuts and drifting lol. Somehow, some way I found myself pointed at a parked Pontiac Gran Prix and had to slam on the clutch and brake to stop the damn thing! Luckily it stopped. At that point I brought it back to the building and left it tf alone before I do something stupid lol.

I wouldn't be upset about the raffles if the mugs were actually RCR-related.
If I wanted some generic car culture drivel like what's been on all these mugs, I'd go basically anywhere else on the internet. I'd probably actually get my money's worth, at least.
The mug this time around doesn't even have a joke on it, it's just a picture of the car. I could walk to WalMart right now and get that exact mug for a tenth of the price.

Major rental companies in my region stopped carrying manuals here in the early 90's and they were almost exclusively trucks and SUV's by then. Nowadays you can only get them from specialty rental services here
In Europe they're the standard though and I had to teach some customers from Europe how to drive automatic, especially in column shifts.

I love that you don't bash the 3v just because something newer and better exists. Something newer and better will always exist and if it doesn't just wait. The 3v is what it is and does what it does and doesn't deserve to be crapped on the way it is just because the 5.0 exists.

You have to do the, 2012-13 Boss 302. It is the Ultimate S197. Car review outlets called it the best handling mustang ever at the time. Which doesn't like much but it out tracked the BMW M3 and the Audi R8 at Laguna Secca. While the 2013-14 GT500 is faster than the Boss 302 in stock form, the Boss 302 got a built engine from factory. It just needs a blower to beat the GT500.

The only convertible I ever drove was a ‘69 Roadrunner with a 383 and a Torqueflite. My dad had borrowed it for a few weeks as he was hunting for a new road car; Buick, Olds or Cadillac. He finally settled on ‘70 Marquis. The Roadrunner was rough as a cob. The taut suspension made the back end hop around on curves if you hit an expansion joint. We took it to the international livestock exposition in Chicago and it was exciting on the freeways in fast heavy traffic.
