  • In this video I demonstrate how I go through the process of designing a tiny house in SketchUp. Starting with drawing the individual parts of lumber, I build the house from the ground up.
This is part 1 of a 2 part series. In this part I build and sheath the subfloor, build the walls, and add the rafters.

in regards to the times (x) function you can type x10 then enter, if there is too many rafters/studs you can type x11 and enter.. great function

15:19 - I'm that guy that's cringing. When making copies in an array like you're doing with the joists, press ctrl when moving anything (which makes a copy) then type the distance you want it to move followed by enter, then type how many instances you want ie *9 for nine instances followed by enter. you can also re-enter the instance count value before hitting enter and it can be changed as many times as you want until you get what you want - then commit the function by hitting enter.
To reiterate: Select group, component or geometry - move selection in desired direction - hit ctrl (makes copy) - type distance - hit enter - type * followed by the instance number value - adjust instance value if need be - hit enter
This method also works with rotate tool.

Question, I want to make mine bigger. Would it be best to copy the floor and duplicate it? In building would we just attach those two floors together?

I have another video where the floor is twice as wide. It's a timelapse, but I think you will get the idea: th-cam.com/video/iY9l5HmUgzo/w-d-xo.html

at 15:05 you can type 10x and press enter right after moving the joist to get 10 joists 16 inches apart. ( *10 should also work). You can also move it to the end and type 10/ to get 10 evenly spaced joists in between

what if I don't know how many can I fit in the subfloor but I know the spacing between them?

You can hold the rotate tool to an axis by pressing on the arrow key -- up for blue, left for green, right for red, and down for align (fuchsia). You can copy objects by selecting them and switch to the move function, then press on the CTRL key, which then shows a + sign in the screen.
