Great review. I just got the XLC last week and it arrives tomorrow. I went back and forth between this hammock and another cottage vendor. All the features of the XLC, I had to try it. I'm looking forward to it even more after your review. Thank you!

Just got my xlc in the mail...the zippers feel a lil light duty and kind of worry me... we're still getting snow up here in maine so I haven't been able to try it out and I know it's a highly respected brand for hammocks so I'm giving those zippers the benefit of the doubt and I baby my gear but that doesn't mean I don't expect it to hold up for years at its price point. Also if the net gives you the foot box wouldn't that mean the stress point would be on the zipper when weights applied? I got the double layer for a sleeping pad and extra weight capacity. Have you tried the winter top cover yet?

I've never had issues with zippers but I did add a small length of looped cord to each for easier handling/gripping. As for the footbox, there's no real stress up there - the foot end is elevated, most of your weight is in the base of the hammock. I've never had issues with zippers or any high stress on any portion of them. I do have the winter top cover - but have only used it a few times. I've found that my tarp, plus even the mesh netting hammock top keeps more warmth inside than you'd think. Good luck with your new purchase, I think you'll love it!

Thanks for watching and the comments! I’m out in Utah filming several as I write this. I use a GoPro Hero 8 for most of my filming. Thanks again!

Great video. Thanks for sharing. At 11:40, don't forget to add a loop around the wasp tail to prevent it from creeping toward the tree as you pull the ridgeline tight. It makes a big difference in keeping a tight ridgeline, especially as the zing-it breaks in.

How does the tarp with tension cord do during really high winds? Does it bounce alot?

    • @terryhikes
      @terryhikes  ปีที่แล้ว

not bad at all. I was in a big wind storm on a bluff cliff in Red River Gorge once, it stood pretty strong - even with the spreader poles on.

how long were those panel pull poles? Warbonnet is not selling them anymore

Who did you get the spreader pole kit from?

It was an add on option to the Thunderfly tarp when ordered from warbonnet. I don’t think they offer them anymore.

@@terryhikes yes, I just seen that Dutch wear gear has something very similar

    Terry,
A Shug worthy video. I really like the time you took to explain things. I too am a Warbonnet junkie. I would like to know more about the top quilt, not a lot of reviews out there. I have just ordered one but I think I Ordered the width incorrectly.
    Nice video

Art, wow, thanks for the kind comment! I’m very new at hammock / tarp camping but have done a ton of research, and Shug is for sure the man! I learned a lot from that guy’s vids. As for the Diamondback top quilt - man, I love mine. I got the 30 degree, and the widest it comes (60”) as I’m a big guy and reposition myself a lot. That width has helped on cool nights to keep the heat in as I shuffle around. This past weekend I ordered a zip-box 40 degree for summer use. I figure I’ll just use that as a blanket for the most part. I got the 60” in that one too, just to be consistent. Although honestly in a hammock, all that width may be overkill as 3 sides of you are kept warm by the under quilt.. but I’ve found on cool nights I still like the extra down insurance. Thanks for viewing and the comment!

I’m considering purchasing this. I got the Dutchware Chameleon and it’s very hard to get into the “sweet spot” for sleep. I’m not sure if you’ve tried both or not. Just curious what your opinion is on the comfort of the XLC.

I have the Eldorado Double bottom. I found the sweet spot before I knew what the Sweet spot was. Watched a LOT of set up videos and was a pro by the third setup. have fun.

How's that 20d holding up? I'm still on the fence about trusting it.

Yea, I was gonna go with dyneema because of those concerns (plus it doesn't stretch when wet) but I really like the little doors and their camo pattern is off the hook. They make a lot of UL tents out of 20d and 15d so I guess it works.

Wow, sorry to some of you above, it looks like most of my previous replies have disappeared. I did move this channel to another Google account recently, I bet that deleted my own previous comments/replies here. Bummer. Anyway, hopefully you saw my replies to your questions when I originally posted them.
