Seasons Changing at The Cabins | Preparing For Our First Winter in Alaska

  • Winter is well on its way! Today, I wanted to go over just a few of the ways that we are prepping for our first winter in Alaska.
From firewood to shelter to canned foods, we are doing everything we can to prepare before the snow and dark show up on the doorstep. There is still a lot of firewood to get once the guys are back from their hunting trip but with all hands on deck, we are confident we can wrap it up.
The little cabin is almost totally ready for us to move in as well! We are so grateful to have somewhere to stay this winter besides the camper and cannot wait to utilize the woodstove. A little more storage space needs to be worked out with the baby on the way but it should be a cozy accommodation for us.
The snow machines are tucked in and waiting for the weather! We cannot wait to hop on the new skidoo and see what she can do in this year's snowstorms. I wouldn't mind if the snow did hold off for long enough to bring the baby home in a truck but we have an amazing machine to travel on if need be.
The garden is very close to being totally wrapped up! Things are still growing a touch on it so I have not yet totally torn it apart but that will probably come very soon. After the first frost, I will probably go ahead and call it even if things are still green here and there. I am hopeful the potatoes did okay this year, neighbors have been reporting a bad year for them nearby.
It has been super hard to not go spend some time working on the new homestead property! Besides the fact that I'm now 7 months pregnant and not allowed to play with chainsaws by myself, I really don't want to do much without Levi and his opinion available to make sure we are going in the right direction together with the property.
Stay tuned for continuous winter preparations, starting to bust in a driveway on the new piece of land, and hopefully a successful moose season!

I am guessing BOY. You look like your carrying low, but it may just be the bibs your wearing. Can’t wait to see how the two of you transform your new property. Much respect for following your dreams, have a great week ❤

A lot of people have said I'm carrying low! I'll have to figure out how to do a poll to see what people think the baby will be. 😍

Good to see your latest video..prepping for winter, and the birth of your baby is keeping you very busy but you should stay dry and warm and cozy in the little cabin.

It's not a rumor...Alaskan winters ARE LONG and cold. They can be especially cold in Jan/Feb.
Since your from Colorado I imagine you know how to get ready.
Winterize your trailor of course and your snow machines and a plan for when the baby comes. I had m daughter in December but thankfully in Anchorage. Be safe you seem to be doing a good job getting prepared. Respect Alaska and it might respect you❤❤❤
Becca...go with your intuition, as I always tell my daughter❤

We booked an airbnb for a few weeks around the birth a few miles from my midwives in town! We love winter but having our first baby in the middle of it is going to be interesting, to say the least! 😅❤

Check out the Cubic Mini fireplaces. I have the "cubic mini grizzly" and it heats my tiny house nicely. It takes 6" logs. Mfg in Canada.

Yep! They may do a little more back and forth to Colorado than us but they're a few miles down the road from our new property.
