First crash test dummy designed to protect women - BBC News

  • A team of Swedish engineers have developed the first crash test dummy designed on the body of the average woman.
    Since the 1970s, crash test dummies - mechanical surrogates of the human body - have been used to determine car safety.
    The technology is used to estimate the effectiveness of seatbelts and safety features in new vehicle designs.
    Until now the most commonly used dummy has been based on the average male build and weight.
    Women represent about half of all drivers and are more prone to injury in like-for-like accidents.

    This is the way everything in - at least western civilization- society. Like how anomalies in health are defined. All after a young healthy male. This is why hospitals even now struggle with how to recognise and treat women's heart disease, bc everything (like EKG, drug doses and treatments) is different from the "normal" - male - way. I'm, as a Swedish person, happy this car crash dummie business is straightening up in Sweden. but did it have to take this long time for the car industry to think clearly? Volvo, Saab, guys? wouldnt any dummy do this job, if they are prepared with "weaker" guidelines, to accomodate a lighter build person?! i mean, does a dummys boobs really make a diference?!
    seems unnescessary, honestly to sink money into this, instead of just building better universal adjustable dummys overall for the whole range of human bodys!

      Men have more crashes, and more severe ones.

    Hahaha unbelievable. Could it be that women are physically weaker and more frail and that's why they get injured more? If I step on a bug and it dies and then I step on a dog and it lives does that prove that shoe designers have an anti bug bias?

    • @JG-GJ
      @JG-GJ 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Haa...you didnt get it. Women physically weaker yeah yeah... in crash, thats not the point. Its about the structure of the seat, car, airbag etc. that endangers a person of lighter build. Short kings have those 13% more likely to die in an accident too as women have.
