I used to play New Leaf really late at night when i was younger, mostly because id be playing my 3ds while my parents sleep. So, I’d be playing around 1-6 am, and damn. At this point 3am-4am are just kinda… nostalgic to me, not really creepy. But I understand that whole “melancholy” people feel for it.

Everyone knows Mario is cool as fuck. But who knows what he's thinking? Who knows why he crushes turtles? And why do we think of him as fondly as we think about the mythical (nonexistent?) Dr Pepper. Perchance. I believe it was Kant who said "Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play." Mario exhibits experience by crushing turts all day, but he exhibits theory by stating "Lets-a go" keep it up, baby! When Mario leaves his place of safety to stomp a turty, he knows he may die. And yet, for a man who can purchase lives with money, a life becomes a mere store of value. A tax that can be paid for much as a rich man feels any law with a fine is a price. We think of Mario as a hero, but he is simply a one percenter of a more privileged variety. The lifekind. Perchance.

New Leaf definitely has some interesting soundtracks for sure. You have the unsettling themes for 4am-5am which then goes into a more relieving and joyful 6am. But also there are soundtracks such as 7pm and 1am that sound kinda depressing? It is capturing the emptiness and eeriness of all of your villagers being asleep and everything being closed? Then when 6am arrives, everyone wakes up again and so it sounds more joyful and alive.

the igloos were like tents in the older games. no clue why they don’t have it in wild world or new horizons. but yeah you could invite villagers to live with you, they had a winter vacation in your town in the igloo :)

Coming from someone who grew up on new leaf, most of the late night and early morning songs are kinda scary. Listen to 12am for Pete's sake, or 5am even! I actually really like this concept though because it's almost like the game's trying to remind you that you're really not supposed to be awake right now. I mean, the stores are closed, none of the villagers are awake and meanwhile you're forced to listen to these chilling earworms of background music. It tends to work very well. I'm kinda upset there weren't more new leaf songs.

The 3rd song sounds like you have to run to the hospital to your dying loved one during midnight.
The 1st one sounds like you’re trying to go home early in the morning while having a really crummy hangover due to partying the whole evening. But it also kinda sounds creepy cause it’s dark outside and because you had some random creep at a party who was kicked out, you’re scared thinking he’s gonna come back to try to kidnap you. Also I can’t be the only one who thinks the 2nd song sounds like it belongs to an Omori ost, more specifically black space.
