Aside from the likes of Gozer, Vigo, and Shandor, none of the ghosts ever really seem borderline evil, they’re more out to cause mischief than anything.
Venkmans role in this film is underrated, he steers the enthusiasm of the other two characters into a profitable business, despite his disinterest in the paranormal. He just gets classed as a letch.
I've always loved how Venkman gets Egon's attention that it's time to serve the invoice.......clears his throat and starts while Egon signals how much to charge..........one of my very favorite moments in the film.
The jocks and small details that are scattered in this one clip really shows how much love this movie got unlike 2016 and since the original directors son is making afterlife I can’t wait to see how much love they put in to it
We see from the bargraph that Venkman has his thrower at Full Stream (5th “decal”). 01:08s It’s why Egon tells him to “shorten his stream”. You can tell at 03:00s that Egon (who also had his on Full Stream: 01:54s) has considerably reduced the output of his thrower (by a half) using the aluminum dial on the top of the thrower marked +1, +2, +3, probably after seeing all the destruction it did to the bar, while Venkman only turned it down a quarter after Egon tells him to “shorten his stream”. Three Quarter stream (4th decal) for Peter and Half Stream (3rd decal) for Egon makes sense looking at the difference in streams when capturing Slimer at the 03:00s minute mark. After Egon tells Peter to shorten his beam down from the Full Stream he started with at 01:08s. At 03:00s we also see that there is no immediate short term bar graph animation when firing. Although the bar graph steadily and slowly dropping when firing continously as overheat approaches is a realistic assumption one can make. From a usability standpoint you’d want to know how long you have left before the overheat when using different power modes. I think the same with the rotating barrel, rotating the front grip counterclockwise so the grip faces up and doesn’t allow a firm grip makes sense to me as a disarming safety feature for storage. The props were brilliantly thought out. The simplicity in their complexity of operation is beautiful. The only mistake the mass produced Matty and Hasbro wand have is starting with the lowest (empty) decal on the bargraph. There should be no stream at that setting. The lower right switch (main power switch): Activates just the red light. The upper right switch (auxiliary systems switch): Activates the bar graph at the lowest light (empty decal) The lower left Activate switch (Cyclotron start): Fires up the cyclotron and the bar graph reads two lights (empty decal and quarter decal). Only now is it ready to fire. That is the lowest power setting. You can then use the aluminum dial marked +1, +2, +3 on the real prop to increase power to half stream, three quarter stream and full stream to line up with the remaining 3 decals, if you need. How these were thought out in 1984 is really brilliant.
In 2024, that amount would be $14,852. Pretty pricey, but that's the genius behind Ghostbusting: you have a complete monopoly and can charge whatever you want. Or in this case, needed, since they just blew through all the money they got from mortgaging Ray's house. The work on their car alone was about $4,800. 40 years later and I still think that's one of the best story hooks: it's four guys and a startup business in an industry that has never existed. They're total pioneers in a new dirty job, and no one else can do it. Who ya gonna call?! Ghostbusters!

Slimer was a homage to the late John Belushi who was originally going to play Venkman before his unfortunate death.
