That’s a cool rule Shane! Thanks. Looks like I’d need quite a few more footings to make this a proper deck. It feels pretty good so far for it’s purpose though 👍
16” OC and wood has shrunk a bit and gaps are probably max 1/8” which is fine since the tent has a floor. I could have butter the decking up against each other since it want down pretty fresh
@JonathanKuhn thanks, like yours I want to keep the platform as low to the ground as possible, so also use 6x10 joists but maybe 12" centers will reduce flex or dbl up every other joist on 16" centers, or a few extra footers.
I like the little guy helping. He’s adorable
Thank you! I'm going to use the same built!
I definitely vote for pallets and plywood or even a cool looking laminated plywood. Even cheaper
A rough rule of thumb is; span in feet = inches in height of boards. So (roughly), 6 foot span = 2x6, 8 foot span, 2x8. and so on. Looks good though!

@@JonathanKuhn Even if you add one footing mid-span on each deck, that would help too.
Love your little helper!
thanks for this info ! great video ~ looking to build the same, for the same setup and I have no idea what im doing : ) !
What type of wood decking did you use? Thanks!
This is pressure treated Pine.
Were the floor joists 12" on center? And how big have the gaps between floor boards gotten now that they've weathered more?

@CapCityDC yeah I think the best bet is more footers. It’s not really that much work if you do the method I did. I wish I doubled them in hindsight.
@@JonathanKuhn ok great to know more footers may be the way to go, easy enough.
What did you use to make the graphic model?
I use SketchUp. I use the free version and it’s pretty great for this kind of planning
$2,200 vs free pallets 🤔
In my next video I’ll be turning this deck into pallets
@@JonathanKuhn can you stack toilet paper on the pallets also and shrink wrap it - then ship it to me please. thanks
Could someone build a sauna with no cutting, no nails?
Yea but it’s technically called a sauna tent 😄
@@JonathanKuhn 😆
Lost
Me when you said used a saw in the first 30sec lmfao
Haha. I did a poor job of explaining. I used a saw for the footings. You could use adjustable footings or install directly on the ground.
