The contrast between how excited Luke is by the creativity of normal people versus how bored he is by the conformity of celebrities 😂
honestly tho, with less budget some of the people here really showed better looks than celebrity stylists have done for red carpets, we SHOULD be excited!
Because celebs have a huge team that usually has weeks of prepping looks for them and they always end up looking meh, while regular people have only their creative minds and view for fashion
I just watched the met gala roast and this comment is so accurate 😂😂😂😂😂
Luke to celebrities: YOU DONKEY
Luke to normal people: Oh dear oh dear
LOVE the video!
Just have to add as a wee history fun fact; that story about Scottish tartans being linked to individual clans was made up by two Englishmen in the 1800s to create a myth to profit from! Scottish tartan was dyed using whatever natural products were available locally, so the different tartans are more related to the area rather than the specific clan.
(My source is that I'm Scottish)
I was coming to say this lol. My source is I’m a history nerd n read a lot😂
@@adri_makeup i’d love to transform into a history nerd. what are some books/articles u would recommend?
I’ll agree because my family clan has the ugliest tartan that’s brown, mauve, and orange.
I'm sorry but the source is that I'm scottish is one of the accidentally funniest lines I read all week
That's so much more beautiful than clans to me. What an incredible map of local nature.
i love how luke serves cold dismay to the celebs but gives tender love to the everyday folk.
rightfully so, those people are loaded and have resources 😭
Because they don't have tons of money and stylists around the clock like celebs. Of course there is a higher expectation and calibre. It is also part of their job.
Vivienne Westwood's whole aesthetic has been such an inspo for Japanese Street fashion. Every other style wants to get their hands on the rocking horse shoe and the rest would die for anything with the globe.
am a lolita, can confirm
Wow really interesting
I first noticed it in Nana, and thought it was just the author's love for Vivienne Westwood but when I had to research, Vivienne Westwood really was a big part of end of 90s and 2000s fashion in Japan... It is really interesting
Vivienne Westwood has left a massive impact on modern day fashion. Somehow her legacy never dies out. She will forever remain iconic for many generations to come.
I pray she’s never forgotten. ❤
never saw him this happy😂
Right? 😂 It's great but I love his roasts too so I'm not complaining!!!
NEVER! it's adorable
the juxtaposition on this channel between celebrities who have stylists and insane budgets yet dress like they're trying to delete all my brain cells, vs regular people who only have access to what's in their own closet and are somehow bringing so much more personality and expression and style
Yoooo the second girl using the garter belts to hold up the skirt was a MOMENT. That corset was fire too, she was my fave. The outfit around 16:00 was also awesome...and the girl who used a watch as a choker, brilliant!
I got two requests for you. 1)The crochet/knit girlies. 2)The thrift flip girlies. Please & thank you, they’re out here killing the game!
he's done a couple thrift flip videos! iirc that was a while back tho so it would be awesome to see him do that again with the newer aesthetics
Yess! And would love to see him react to the MAXIMALIST girlies!
Omg yes the crochet girlies!!
as a crochet girlie i agree!!
As a knitter and a thrift flipper, YES PLEASE
The gyaru one really stuck out to me. I think its a really cool take. It's like a fusion of two different styles that have a lot of overlapping in elements. Definitely not textbook Westwood but its interesting to see how inspired by Westwood Japanese street fashion is and great homage to the reach of Vivienne's work.
Also, this is making me want to dust off the family kilt my mom used to make me wear on Thanksgiving and make a tiktok hahah
The way he said gyaru made me giggle lols. But Vivienne Westwood is pretty iconic in the vkei and sometimes rokku gyaru scenes of j fashion because of the iconic manga nana. Through the manga there a bunch of outfits and accessories taken directly from vivienne Westwood designs. Personally all I want in life is to get the limited edition vivienne Westwood x nana orb lighter necklace lols
Thank you for recognising that a kilt is not just a tartan skirt. Nowadays you can get kilts in almost any fabric including leather and PVC, but the construction is very specific and requires a great deal of skill.
I love how supportive you are of each look and how you incorporate tiktoks from people with different body types. Impeccable as always!
“Can I just say, you can never have enough hats, gloves, and shoes”
I think Vivienne would have loved to see everyday people getting their Vivienne on with stuff they already own! Love
I LOVE the idea of pinning up a maxi dress/skirt and I will 100% be incorporating this into my spring/summer looks. A great way to get additional use out of a garment, I fully agree.
Me too I wear a lot of long skirts I'm short though so my shoes don't show really and I have a very nice shoe collection so I'm excited to try this also the layered skirts though I may wait till winter to try that one
honestly this pinning up long skirts thing is so inspiring. and it has a great timing for me, I just brought back some of my grandma's decorative broaches I thought were super cute but didn't know how to wear. and cute skirt season is just starting....
btw I love how positive you are about everyone's interpretations
I absolutely adore how you give a history lesson not only in fashion but in society. To me Vivienne Westwood shattered the rules much like Mary Quant. I hope some designers come along with their sort of energy and vision to do the same, there are no rules. Plus ,your pure joy here makes me smile thank you.
Vivienne Westwood is my favourite designer in the world ! Her fashions just attracts something in feminine gaze . She truly was an icon..
Plus points because of Nana lol. I found my love for Vivienne Westwood due to Ai Yazawa !!
Gyaru is a really fun fashion subculture, I think you’d enjoy exploring it! It’s a Japanese pronunciation of the word “gal”, and a lot of Gyarus call themselves Gals.
The garters holding up an over skirt to show off the under layers is a renaissance fair staple! And it looks so good with the modern punk elements too, she did a great job.
It truly just goes to show that you can create these high fashion looks with non expensive clothes by yourself, you don’t need a team of like 20 stylists behind you to put you together in these luxury brands, all you truly need is an eye for fashion, clothes and a vision
These creators have great styling!! Loved every look here. ❤️ On a side note, Luke you mentioned the trend of styling pieces you already own in a new way (@11:40). I think that would be amazing for publications to do this instead of "what to buy in xxx year". I think more and more people are on a styling journey (myself included) than a garment collection/wardrobe overhaul journey as seen in previous years (at least through the lens of social media). The downturn in the economy and the quest for individuality has a lot of people looking at what they currently have to work with. A "styling" focus vs a "product" focus in these trend videos and magazines would help with this! I've always paid attention to runways to see how CDs are styling the clothes on the runway. I recently started styling two flannel pieces a la Blazy's SS 23 Bottega runway...I find it super chic!
Personally, I think it's a missed opportunity for a stylist to partner with a House (or vice versa) to pull from past seasons to create a current runway.
The garters holding up the skirt was definitely a moment!
Luke was way more excited by this challenge than by the red carpet looks celebrities shell out lol I loved it! Thanks for sharing, Luke! I don't use the clock app, so this was fun.
I love that VW can be worn by any size in any culture and that this is show casing reusing clothes you already have.
PS Loved VW and Mary Quant. Thank you ladies for showing how to have fun and look good. ❤
PPS… My dad and all his male friends, relatives wore heeled shoes in the 70’s. Men’s fashion was so fun and interesting in the 70’s.
in the nineties i found a pair of platform heels that had fake fish in them that my grandpa wore in the 70s, they were sooo cool i really want a pair.
The joy and excitement of your getting into these looks just inherently made me happy. And I learned some history while at it. Bravo and everyone should be this happy and passionate about something they love!
I used to dress her funk style in the 80’s! It morphed easily into grunge, very music oriented with under layers, literally, of whatever generation had most recently passed away. Pearls were a part of Mrs. Bush/Margaret Thatcher references at that late 80’s- early 90’s era.
I studied gyaru style in undergrad! It's a Japanese pronunciation of "girl" and it took a lot of inspiration from American culture in the early 2000s (tan, lots of hairspray lol and flashy), which is a full 180 from traditional Japanese culture. It led to a lot of different subcultures that are big today including Lolita and Gothic Lolita/Gyaru. Super interesting history and culture to look into! I don't dress or engage in the culture myself, but I love learning about it.
i watched the anime NANA recently and it was also so interesting to see how much they directly incorporated vivienne westwood into all the styles in that too!
I so very much appreciate how much history and context you give us. You highlight the details that make these house codes what they are and where they come from. You’re a natural teacher and communicator and your enthusiasm and delight when fashion is done well is contagious. ❤. Also, I am absolutely going to pin up some of my maxi dress skirts and try out some fun layering with them.
the happiness you show when you see all of them being happy with their style is so wholesome! 😊
17:10 is making me think of Disney's Sleeping Beauty/ Rose but if she was trying to look like a Vivienne Westwood model
I love how much you smile and seem to enjoy this more than most red carpet roasts/reviews!
Loved the format of the video! History then the challenge analysis. I think the first stitch was my favorite
I'm here for the cowboy though! The vibe is cowboy but for real with an edge
There's presence to it
i LOVE AND APPRECIATE YOUR SELECTION OF VIDEOS OMG! all different colours, sizes and shapes, thank you boo you make us all feel seen. And thanks to these content creators !!
I enjoyed the HELL out of that, I took more screenshots than any sane person would. That was more channeled creativity than I have seen on the red carpet in a long time. Thanks for sharing, Luke.
Love this trend, I think it's a beautiful tribute to Vivienne Westwood.
That was so much fun! Great video, Luke! Usually, I learn a lot, but this was just fun and enjoyable. Thanks!
I like these kind of designer trends. Hope there’s more soon
I love seeing Luke happy and excited!
Great analysis as per usual, Luke.
One nitpick: your claim in 5:20 that different types of plaid belonged to different Scottish tribes is a misconception. It was perpetuated by the Victorian English, how fitting.
Maybe that’s how it started but tartans are still worn today by their specific clans/ families. I’m Scottish and we have our own tartan that we wear to events like weddings, parties etc 😊
@@waynebradywallpaper amazing! What color is your family’s/clan’s/community’s tartan?
@@waynebradywallpaper And so do we! Though I'm marrying a woman as a woman myself, I do plan on wearing my kilt. Great pride in my clan and its history :)
I love seeing you giddy with delight. I also love "put on a bunch of stuff you already have" then rock it!
The second look & third to last look were my FAVORITES 🔥🔥 I would absolutely wear both of those!
This video is so fun! Don’t know what I love more..the fashions or Luke’s reactions & joy
I am so addicted to your channel now. Found it 4 days ago. You have so much to say and I am here for every word
The levels of positivity paired with the fashion history
Lukey gagging over the second look obsessed
I was grasping for air when that STUNNING girl used the garters to gather up the skirt! GENIUS!!
I love this! Your pure joy watching someone layer and pin skirts in these videos is infectious. 😘
It makes me so happy to see people with different body shapes, people of colour, having fun with fashion!
This is so great! I didn't even know this challenge existed, but it is the best homage to the Grande Dame of British fashion😍
love your tiktok vidoes!!!!! u look like ur having a lot of fun and i love all the positive commentary
*I LOVE your channel! You've gotten me so into fashion in ways I wasn't prior to discovering your channel, thank-you! 🥰 I'm obsessed with your ability to be able to reference so many specific designers, looks, historical points pertaining to fashion, etc. I've learned so much from you, please don't change* ❤
*Ps - Hope you're recovering well from your ASL surgery!* 💕
Thank you for working with Blueland, I really hope that you use it. It really is important and it really is good!
vivienne westwood being forever an icon
I'm in love with the sweater....
hehe me too!!!
@@hautelemode Will you reveal the sweater source? Love it
Loving the sweater today!
Also I’ve actually never been so genuinely enticed by the sponsor of a video lol.
This was a very fun video
And it was great to see so many different interpretations of Vivienne's style aesthetic on different body types
The gyaru one reminds me of something Hachi from Nana could wear!
I guess I am old fashioned because I really do think it's very important to spell someone's name correctly (don't get me started on mispronouncing someone's name LOL!)! Also how Vivienne spells her name is so great I really love it! it was actually missing 2 Es and an N and last but not least there is no A in Vivienne Westwood's name!
I truly enjoy watching you enjoying these people's videos
This whole video just gave me so much joy. if I have tiktok and not camera shy yes I'm definitely hopping on the trend
This is the kind of video we need more- educational + entertaining ❤
If you love the layered skirts look, you would love Ateez and their fandom, Atinys! Ateez has a Pirate concept and Atiny concert fits often have Pirate Vibes.
That was super interesting! I love how everyone's personal style (and closet) brought a different vibe.
Also, major props to you for curating videos from people of different races, skin tones, body shapes, and gender presentations! It made the trend feel even more accessible and fun 😊
Vivienne was huge in Japan in the 90s and 2000s
Love the positivity in this video ❤❤❤
This is so fun and honors an iconic designer in fashion. Love it - thank you!
Ah I'm the one at the 16:00 mark! Loved seeing your reaction ❤
Your reaction at 10:03 is everything!!! 🤩
And your joy at 16:31! 💖
I had no idea that I have some Vivian Westwood in me... thank you so much for.this video...Today I went to work with Pearl's not.only in my neck but also around my waist... very high heels, a blouse, and a vest...OMG!!!! I felt that I was on a runway all day long... please do more of this kind of videos!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I love the 16-minute one so sooo much
Might be the most joy I’ve ever seen you display. As you say…”I like it.” :)
They all did great❤ I wore a lot of these styles in the 90s, we only had magazines and some books and had to travel to London for cool shoes 😂 not everything was better in the past. It is so great to be able to watch runway shows from home😊
I learned of Vivian from an Anime called nana and I’ve been a fan ever since ❤
Love this video and all the creations were so good!!
THE WATCH AS A CHOKERRR
This video made me so happy!!! Everyone did a wonderful job!!! ❤
Gy-aa-ru. It's an amazing style, full of rebellion and going into kitch almost, a true commentary on Japanese society during 90s and 2000nds. Japanese fashion also loves Vivienne Westwood so much, you can see her pieces worn by harajuku, gyaru and vkei styles, anong others.
Love Vivienne Westwood fashion. My daughter dresses like this all the time.
I love how excited you got over a lot of these looks 🥰
omg thank you so much for featuring my tiktok and for all your kind words :)) 🤍
Your joy at these is contagious ❤
😂 usually i see you annoyed by celebrities not giving us anything.
Watching you being excited is different got me 😂😂😂
ok the watch as a choker got me.... I need to try that out in the fall
Sorry, I'm late to the party... I watch you all the time and always enjoy your content and snark. This one was great fun. Imagine how fashion would evolve if we were confined to clothing currently on-hand? That, I'd like to see!😊❤
This was so fun! I'm so here for tiktok trend reactions.
The pink one with the hello Kitty bag ended up looking very Betsy Johnson as well. Super cute❤
Can we talk about your sweater? It's gorgeous! From the yarn to the colour and let's not forget the stitch💙☁️🥰
This was delightful!
I discovered Vivienne Westwood thanks to iconic manga series Nana too because I wasn't into high fashion back then but the whole idea of it really fascinated me... Started from Vivienne Westwood, my favorite brand ever, now I am really into fashion.
Those tiktok videos are fun to watch or make but sometimes I'm annoyed, ngl gsuekerkg
they are called skirt hikes and they are already a thing mostly in the realm of renfair
yes i knew i saw them somewhere! they're gorgeous tho, i hadn't seen them styled like this before. i'm more the type to dress up as a faun for renfair lol
Loved it! It’s like a fashion lesson.
This was fun. I loved it.
thank you for talking about the importance of tartan!
more like this! loved it!
I live in a bit of a hippy town and so many girlies around here dress like this and I love it. Not so many corsets but still pretty much the same lol
I love seeing you so happy!!!!!
It’s great seeing young people appreciating Ms. Westwood’s work.
