Love it! Military abbreviations are always quite funny; for example in Canada- RMC means Royal Military College. AKA new green recruits. In Britain.... they are the Royal Marine Commando! The opposite end of spectrum and absolute legends

My family has been serving the Corps since the 1880’s. My great grandfather served on ships and land from about 1880; retiring as CSM Deal depot. My grandfather served in WW1. My father was in 47 landing on Gold on DDay. His war was a short in that he was wounded the next day and shipped home. He told one of our sons that the position of his troop was given away by the local French and 2, including him, were shot by the Germans. One of the lucky ones? Another one of our sons is now serving in 40 but currently on the Assault Engineer course.
I was never close to my father until his last few years when I did everything I could for him - cooking, driving him etc. but, next year, we intend to holiday in NW France and visit these areas. An overdue piece of respect for those who didn’t make it.
