    I love these videos and I have a suggestion: split screen. That way we could see you front and back. We could follow you as if in your class while seeing what your hands are doing, without the stop and start of you turning around to show us. Also the end of each lesson should conclude with starting from the commencement and moving up through the current movement.

    I’m so glad I found 100 days of tai chi… I have tried lessons in the past but they went so slowly it was frustrating I feel like 100 days of tai chi is going to allow me to learn at a reasonable pace, practice for 24 hours and come back and learn the next step… So far it’s been great!

    I find as a I go about my day that I will unconsciously make movements I have learned watching the presentations. We have a small kitchen and sometimes when I step from one spot to another I find myself using the step we use to go into bow stance. Very deliberate movements.

    You’re the best!!!!!! I live in a small city/large town where options for in-person Tai Chi classes are slim, albeit free, but not appealing. So, I turned to online videos and yours spoke to me. I am happily tackling Day 3. It usually takes 2-3 days to become comfortable with each move and make sure the slow and flow is embedded. Chuffed to have 2 moves under my belt. Please, keep these videos posted, especially the ones that provide front and back views of the moves. Can’t wait to see where this retirement project takes me - woo hoo!

    Luv this series. The only suggestion is that you should do a 'run through' summary incorporating the sum total of the prior class moves before going into each new lesson.

    Have viewed and participated in the Day 3 class over 1/2 dozen times, each time those tiny nuggets of information seep out. Knowing if the foot turn is on the heel or the toe - my my my. You got to watch all of David as he demonstrates. It always looks so easy yet a 60 something plus a lot, duck pin shaped person like me finds it a challenge... oh wait, another nugget... het that made it ever so much easier. The big win in this episode is when to shift your weight.. and getting to where the shift is seamless as you turn. I guess its like learning how to walk or how to ride a bike. So much to learn .. so little time... David ensures you use your time wisely and efficiently... very cool stuff...

    Just an observation, another subtlety. The T-step in 9, 16, and 24 forms seems to be more distinct than in 103 forms...so far. Also, I agree with Kath S.'s post, would appreciate a periodical recap. Mahalo.

    I wish at the end of each lesson you could go from day one through day 3 for example, so we can be solidifying the previous steps...also it’s easier to follow when you face away...totally understand the need to see what is happening from the front view, but more repetitions to practice from the back view would be helpful (like 3 times to make it stick in memory easier) without having to go back and watch entire video again...

A question which probably be answered later, many different answers so what is your answer, is it breathe out through the nose or the mouth? For me out through the mouth seems better for me, the reason being the jaw seems to be slightly more relaxed.

    Hi David! I have just recently found your videos and I am so excited about them! I have very little experience so that is why I thought about starting with the 100 days of Tai Chi series. You mentioned in this video today about the 24 forms being simplified. I do have a little experience with the 24 forms. So I am wondering as a beginner should I continue on with the 100 days series or should I just learn more about the 24 forms and get good with that first? I was also wondering if there will be a time in this series where you put the movements together or is it just 1 or 2 movements per video for all of them. There are so many videos which is awesome but I am just looking for the best place to start. Thank you so much!

    I have just started learning Tai Chi for the first time. Today is my 3rd day.
    Have a question... Do these moves form a part of the original Tai Cho sequence or are they different?

    Hi David, How important is it to mirror you, i.e. use the right hand when you are? I'm finding it a bit challenging to follow you sometimes when I am trying to do what looks like the opposite of what you are doing. Does that make any sense?

    • @DavidDorianRoss
      @DavidDorianRoss  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sandra - great question! In the largest sense, it is not important at all. Throughout the run of this 100 Days series, I tried to experiment with mirror-image instruction, turning around instruction etc. to try to offer a variety of views. But following me exactly only matters in one extremely small context - IF you are trying to learn and then demonstrate a choreography. Remember that the Tai Chi experience is so much more than choreography. Hope that made sense!

      @@DavidDorianRoss each move in Tai Chi is founded in principles, the 6 harmonies for example. When starting out learning Tai Chi great care must be taken to not damage the joints of the lower fork as they take a lot of pressure. So maybe a person can only turn 30 degrees without breaking the harmonies. Turning 180 degrees by collapsing the knee cannot be good for the structure nor for the form. The first stage in Internal martial arts is ¨make the body fit the mind / make the mind fit the body ¨. You cannot tell ( intent ) your body to turn 180 degrees if the present ability of the body ( physical ) is less. Movements in Tai Chi should be fluid and strong, honoring the union of Heaven and Earth. ( Yang and Yin )

    • @DavidDorianRoss
      @DavidDorianRoss  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Glen-uy4jt had to go back and take a look at the video again to see if I can figure out what the heck you were talking about. It’s one thing to know the words that are used to quote the principles of tai chi and it’s an entirely other thing to understand thebiomechanics of movement. in other words, how do you take those principles and make them work with a human body? I finally found the place where I do say I have to collapse the knee a little bit. But I think you misunderstand my meaning. I actually mean that you need to soften the angle of the knee so that you don’t try to turn stiff legged. In actuality, the articulation doesn’t come from the knee it comes from the hip. Something else that I talk about in other episodes in this series is the fact that I teach in what we call “layers“. It’s too much information to try to give all the details in one lesson, so you’ll find that as you go through the series, I will come back to a movement already covered with a little bit more detail. Sometimes that means that I modify in some part something that I have said before in order to add to the understanding. So I give you fair points for pointing out some thing that in isolation is a bit problematic. However, don’t be so quick to judge until you know more about the context. And as I had said before, it is my policy that if somebody wants to complain about something in one of my videos they are more than welcome to, give me a link to a response video to show what they’re talking about - and if they know what they’re talking about. I would welcome and leave up such a link on the comment section so that other people could benefit from your example.
