    To get the powder to mix without a Ninga you can put the powder in a bowl and add a little water at a time and stir. Like you would to make a gravy with pan drippings and flour.

    I put a pattie on a couple of my smaller hives trying to build them up for winter. A few days later my hives are full of fire ants. Any suggestions on getting rid of fire ants? Thank you so much. Love your channel.

    • @beek
      @beek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ants are tough to avoid. Most beekeepers will place their hive on stands and place the feet of those stands in vegetable oil so the ants cannot get to the hive. I've heard a ton of other folk lore stuff from queen anne's lace, to cinnamon etc.

    On a personal note I also have loved ones I am missing. Holidays is the hardest.
    As for the inspections, I find you do start yours different than I do. I would be afraid of rolling the queen off if I were to select a frame close to the center. That is the reason I like to start from one side. Have you not rolled any queens off?

  • @markhulbig6014
    @markhulbig6014 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great videos David! I notice when you are removing frames you talk about disturbing the comb. Are you also worried about rolling bees?

    • @beek
      @beek  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I usually remove the comb closest to the wall which rarely has the queen on it, then I leave that frame out, as you can see in many of my videos. This gives me adequate room to slide and separate frames so when I lift one out I'm not rolling bees.

    I sometimes have the blending issue with dry lemon powder (baking, not bees). I have found mixing the lemon and sugar first is best...then clumping won't happen when you add the water to blend.

We have very high utility cost so our system will pay for itself in 7 years. In addition we get a check from our utility company at the end of the year (it's not much but it's better than us sending it to them). Good luck with it.

I’ve learned a lot through failure and your course, I have big plans for next year and can’t wait!

If I have a super on now an it has sugar syrup in it that was in there from winter if I take the frames and extract the syrup out how can I make sure that all the syrup is out so I can use that frames for the season as a honey super. On the minute mark of 26.3ish you pull a black frame that looks like a small frame? is that the case? Was there a reason for why you used it or just was available?

    David, do you have dandelion there?
    Here in N TX, we are benefiting from dandelion, which is about the only flower left since a recent freeze.
