    Good Morning Mark.
Can I just say? as someone who likes to watch cooking shows or any sort of culture show in which people try to describe taste and smell to the viewers, They could learn a lot from you! I just watched you taste honey for 5 minuets and with your use of word, emotion, facial expression and timed camera work I was left with the feeling I had tasted the honey for myself!
I love you videos mate and despite the fact I live in the UK so only 25% of your growing season matches mine ( Your winter vs our Summer) I still take great value from your show.

A neighbour of our had a lot of hives, and I loved to watch his bees coming into our garden
to drink at our pond. Sometimes he'd give us a jar of honey. He wasn't allowed to sell it.
Then he had someone move in next door and complain that he was getting pollen on his
car from the bees. So he got rid of most of the hives. I don't think I would have done.

What a tremendous class of ecological education, many people don't even know there's bees without stings or that the honey bee is european (although is usually called european or africanized honey bee).
Here in Brazil we have many species os stingless bees, some closer to the dimensions of the european honey bee, like Uruçu (Melipona scutellaris).

Hi Mark I have a question for you. Maybe it could lead to a new video. The topic is reusing soil. I have spent alot on dirt this year and many gardeners say to not reuse it. Especially tomatoes. Could I sterilize the soil at the end of season with peroxide mix? If you have any advice or ideas let me know. As a kid we always reused the dirt, and fertilized it with fish heads but now I'm using raised beds and purchasing food soil mix. Take care.

The main reason not to reuse it is if it's had diseased plants, destructive insects in the soil etc. But particularly tomatoes which can get root knot nematodes, which will still be in the soil. You can tell by looking at the tomato roots. They won't be smooth, but have lumps all along the roots. There are a lot of videos about people who reuse potting mix/soil. Google it for better information.

I'll stick with regular honey bees once I start my own.

Honey bees are better for honey production but the stingless and other solitary bees are much better pollinators, so if you're growing plants that need flowers pollinated you can get better yields by having some of the other bee varieties near your garden. This is why they're so popular despite the lower honey production. (Not that you have to choose, you can still have both!)

I'm wondering if your reference to wine or port is that it tastes a bit fermented? I'm a honey beekeeper in Ontario Canada. We can often have honey with too much moisture and if that happens it too can taste a bit like a wine or port from fermentation. If you add honey to water and yeast you get Mead = honey wine.

Exactly what I was thinking too. Honey bees lower the water content in honey before capping the cells off, to prevent fermentation. He mentioned that the native bee honey is less viscous, so I'm thinking it has more water and is more likely to ferment.

Would this work with American stingless bees?

What is the health effect and the difference from regular sting bee honey?

To be honest, I haven't researched the health effects/benefits compared to honey bee honey but I'll no doubt look it up and do another video in the future 🙂👍

Doesn’t it depend on what the bees get for nectar?

Yeah for normal honey atleast that is a huge factor, very easy to distinguish honey from different flowers, generic honey is just random flowers in nearby vicinity so bit of a lottery.
