    Please share, like, and subscribe so we can grow and do more on this channel!
    Today we are looking at my project car, a 1959 Edsel Corsair! I'll give a little history on Edsel itself for those unfamiliar and then take a look at my car itself and its story!
    Please let me know what you have heard or remember about Edsel in the comments! Did I get something wrong? Probably! Let me know!

    I've never seen a 1960 Edsel. Not even a graphic, until now. It looks just like the same year Oldsmobile.
    Actually, that looks like a pretty nice Edsel for the years and abuse it has survived. Keep up the good work.
    I loved those old cars compared to now. I've been missing my '52 Ford Ranch Wagon.
    Gotit when I was 16. My Mom lent me the money to buy it and get it home. $66, sixteen of it to get it towed home.
    Then I had to put a clutch in it.

      I have yet to see a 1960 Edsel in person. I hope to make it to one of the owners conventions this year or next. Should be able to find one there.

    I noticed that PRNDL speeds now is a stick on the column, and not like 1958 version, it is selectors pulsed in the space of central stearing wheel. Probablely consumers did not like this original idea, at the moment of pressing horn claxon the accidentally press speed selectors (I think).

    I love your car and am thrilled that younger generations appreciate and love them too. I think the Edsel was given a bad rap. They were good looking cars, given the outlandish and over the top styling of the era.
    I'm glad that you are keeping it fairly stock. Too many beautiful old cars wind up in the crusher after being cut up as a project only for the owner to realize that their ideas aren't possible or are unrealistic.

      Walter has a good point. But the simplest truth is that it was introduced in the middle of a recession; it wasn't full of radically new & better ideas compared to what was promised; and introducing ANY new Marque is difficult, even in good conditions.
      Edsel sold more cars in its first 6 months than Saturn, but GM was wise to commit to its car.

  • @morgansword
    @morgansword ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the popular channel coldwar motors featured the 58 edsel very well as the problems they had with the pushbutton steering column shifting system that never ever left the factory with much success. I am as old as dirt some say as in my seventies and drove these cars new. I happened to fall in love with the 59 ford fairlane 500 with the narrow C pillar between the windows. Because we were young and dumb, thought that cars would always look like this to only find we should of cared for them instead of turning them into race cars. I must of owned fifty of the fords from 47 through 65 of mostly two door hardtops. Our girlfriends told us what they wanted to ride in. You have a great little car there and hope that you continue to finish it up as a driver. I was also unaware of the different parts of our country that were conducive of high rust issues. I was drafted in 66 and came home to find my car collection sold off, my wife sleeping with our landlord, plus a judge who really did hate my guts. I gathered a few things up, left for alaska to never return nor marry again. Just can't wrap my head around sharing a woman

      @@itgarageben Thanx! I’ve recently become a member of the Edsel owners community, lol. I have a 1959 Ranger with a 292 Y block, 2 speed auto and plenty of work ahead of me. The car belonged to a guy who rented classic cars out to film makers. Supposedly, my Ranger has been in some films. Most notably the film "The Express" with Dennis Quaid. That’s what I was told. The car would’ve been in the background, like at a gas station or parked by the curb in a town scene. Thanks again!

    Edsel was Henry Ford,s son, it is a shame their market search was not better, a few things the grill, the push button auto trans, put people off, unyet the tri five Chevys sold like Hot cakes, in mid sixties Ford caught EVERYONE napping, bringing out the Mustang ( basically a dressed up Falcon, Falcon under pinnings and running gear, ) they could NOT make them FAST enough, GM and Chrsyler were at least two years away with an answer for the Mustang, personally i,d love an unmolested 64--65 squareback 289 4speed these new EV Mustangs are 🤮🤮HORRIBLE🤮🤮
