- An absolute must-see in Central Java, Indonesia is the largest Buddhist temple in the world - Borobudur. It's not super easy to get tickets though, so there are some things to know before going to Borobudur and if you want to do the temple structure climb too.
🎫 Borobudur Tickets 🎫
Due to the popularity of Borobudur and the restrictions on the number of visitors a day, it's pretty difficult to purchase the tickets directly through the official website or from the site itself too so we purchased ours through Klook a few days prior and paid extra for the temple structure climb. The Klook ticket also included pick up and drop off in Yogyakarta:

🍽️ Gudeg Lunch Spot in Malioboro🍽️
Gudeg Yu Djum
▸ maps.app.goo.g...
🚗 Private Driver 🚗
If you're looking for a driver in Yogyakarta, our driver Dana was great. He's friendly and speaks English too. You can contact him via WhatsApp and just let him know you found him through our video on TH-cam.

Thank you! We had a wonderful time in Indonesia 🇮🇩 😊
Great video! And you guys tried Gudeg too 😆🎉
Thanks! Haha we definitely had to 😁👍
Remarkable place n yummy food..super love it❤❤❤
Lovely place for sure 😊❤️
Oh, that's good that the govt makes the effort to preserve it while allowing visitors - and the sandals are an interesting way to help with that!
Definitely, we heard that in the past, anyone was allowed to climb the structure. That's when it suffered a lot of damage as well as overcrowding. The restrictions help preserve the temple for future generations.
Glad the tickets worked out for you guys and you were able to walk about the temple. Very very impressive temple... Have to ask, how comfy were the temple jandals? Very stylish 😅. Hearing you describe the gudeg as delightful punctuated with a "wow" made it that much more intriguing🤤. Malioboro St looks like a fun place...somewhere you can spend days exploring and find an unending web of interesting things and tasty foods. Definitely a different vibe from what I remember of Bali. Looking forward to more Indo!! It's been on my mind to revisit for quite awhile now, and your vids have definitely rekindled those thoughts.
Think you would enjoy Indonesia 🇮🇩 it's a very interesting place to visit because of how diverse the sights are. I think you would enjoy komodo island where you can walk amongst wild komodo dragons 🐉 😁
The jandals were ok, not super comfy cause the flax material is kinda scratchy between your toes 😂
So much to see and do, what a vibrant city!
The temple looks amazing and definitely worth the climb up the steps for the views of it and the surroundings 😊
I love the random 🦖 at the mall too 😂
Hahaha it was so random but fit the vibe for sure 🦖😂
When you climb up that temple thinking about how it would've been built so long ago it's truly amazing. Was super cool when you're walking towards it too to see how grand it is!
welcome to Indonesia, hope you enjoy the visit
Thank you were had a wonderful time 😊🇮🇩🙏🏻❤️
And I am going to contact your driver!!! Once again, your video is awesome!
😁👍 Dana was a great driver enjoy
Nice video
welcome to indonesia candi borobudur
Thank you 😊✌️
😊 Nice!
😁👍
Excellent video and narrative as always. Thank you for sharing the information about how to visit Borobudur nowadays. I’ve been there once when I was still in a middle school ages ago. I can only wish the government would focus more on maintaining that sacred place….. with climate change and all. Yes, it’s a very hot and humid place there. I like gudeg too 😊. Enjoy your time there.
It seems to be very responsibly taken care of from what we could see when we were there. All groups were accompanied by guides on the structure walk and there are daily limits on the amount of people let through. Gudeg is yummy 😁
It's so much fun watching you two have fun 😊 Another fabulous place to visit, and the amount of carved stone was incredible!
Our whole time in Indonesia was full of wonderful memories. Dad and I had been chatting about visiting this temple for years and he was very jealous looking at our photos hahaha 😆 he can get us back now since we're back in NZ at the moment and they're on holiday 😆
@@PeterandYen And I'm sure they'll send you lots of photos 😂 I can certainly see why the attraction to that temple.
They've definitely been sending us lots 😆
@@PeterandYen 😂
The temples reminded me of Journey to the West Taiwanese version the original one from many moons ago. I am drooling watching u guys eat that lunch and tried on the snack. I am curious of the taste jackfruit n rice. We do have jackfruit sweet tho, we filled the jackfruit with sticky rice, shredded coconut, sugar peanuts and sesame seeds topping.
Young jackfruit seems to be an Indonesian and Malay specialty dish. It's very yummy sometimes it's very sweet sometimes a lil sweet. It has a nice texture kind of like eggplant but the flavor is so unusual.
The jackfruit sweet sounds so good 🤤
@PeterandYen I cannot remember the last I ate fresh jackfruit. They do have one in Sydney but just too expensive. We used the jack fruit hair to stir-fried with meat and roast or boil the seed. Pretty much you can eat all of the inside of the jackfruit except the skin lol. The seed is like Chestnut, high in fibre but alot of stinky fart if you eat too much 🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Very interesting temples and food choices! I think I would like the chicken livers. Are Jack Fruits similar to Durians? I guess I can Google for the answers. 🤣🤣 Thank you for putting the vlog together for us to watch! I just looked it up…I think I would have liked the Jack Fruit. When I was little and lived in Saigon, I did like Durians - not sure that I would like them now! by the way, I had no idea that in Indonesia, they drive on the wrong side of the street like in NZ! Just kidding! The other side of the street!
😂😂 yeah they sorta look similar on the outside but definitely don't taste the same! Hahaha felt nice and familiar for us on the left 😆👍🏻
thx for visiting. maybe you can try Tumpak Sewu :D
Thank you for the recommendation 😊👍
Good job you guys found Klook, for a marginally higher cost but it does include Transport. Would really be gutted like some of the people, do appreciate the efforts for preservation of the Temple grounds by numbers and also the sandals
Just wondering if any other place of worship or historical places near there are made of the same material. The whole place looks imposing
Pete, do not blame you for not being able to decide which plate was Liver and Jack-fruit, covered with the lovely Curry (rich with sweet coconut), always love eating from a banana leave
Do have a great week Both
So true food from the banana leaf always tastes a lot better. The banana leaf fragrance always adds a nice touch to curries especially.
Yes, the Prambanan temple we visited as well as a lot of religious sites in Bali are made from the same volcanic stone. Since there are so many volcanoes 🌋 in the region the stones are abundant.
😁 take care n have a great week yourself
Wow Borobudur, the place where Mariah Carey held her concert some years ago...
Oh wow didn't know that! What an amazing setting for a concert 😯
Top notch food for jogja region is sate khlatak and mie godog jawa..
Thanks for the recommendations 🙏🏻 We'll have to try those next time!
Visit plaosan temple, kalasan temple and ratu boko palace this is part of mataram kuno/medang besides borobudur and prambanan.
Thank you for the recommendations, we'll have to visit when we're back in Indonesia 🇮🇩
