My father use to describe Kishore Kumar's voice as the "sound of Whiskey poured in a glass". He had his own expressions for all male singers. For Mohmad Rafi he use to say a " A male voice of a beautiful lady" and Talat Mahmood had a "Velvet Voice" & Hemant Kumar had "Mysterious Voice"

for me Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar are just in another realm in the hindi music industry. I was born in the late 90s and I could listen to Kishore Kumar songs everyday and never get tired of them. His songs just hit different.

Most versatile singer ever in Indian music industry, as well as fantastic actor, He is so great that even after almost 40 years I know the lyrics of almost 90 all the songs, and I am a bigger fan of Md. Rafi sir rather that Kishore Da. Song - Manjile apni jagah (Sharaabi movie), I have great memories of watching that with my late father.
The song at 11:10 "Ek ladki bheegi bhaagi si" and the song at 12:04 "Rhimjhim gire sawan" are the kind of songs that you guys will love. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS.

Yes kishor kumar could sing any type of songs but personally I think kishor kumar was not that great in giving pain in songs good not that great I think his follower kumar sanu had great ability of pain in songs . That's why one song from haathi mere Saathi sung by md Rafi when music director were not satisfied from his version of nafrat ki duniya .

Yes, you are right it is Amitabh Bachchan the legend to whom Kishore Kumar sang for many films in the 70s-80s (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's father-in-law) Kishore Kumar was one of a kind, he was not trained in classical, had a tremendous beautiful voice in variation, there is no one like him anymore..one of our family's favorite singers. He has many more beautiful iconic songs not covered here from the golden black and white era films..
I did not know that he died in 1987, I was born in 1997 and I have watched each and every movie that all of these songs are featured in and of course heard every song, that is how prominent he is.

It would be nice to hear your perspective on songs like 'Rimjhim Gire Saawan', which is based on a raag called 'Pilu'. It's a rainy day love song, but it's based on a raag that's commonly used to express joy and devotion. It's a weird but brilliant mix! Again, would love to hear your thoughts.

I’m 49 and my personality is shaped by Bachchan movies and Kishore voice. Nostalgia for me.. so many songs taught us to live! Many songs and those lyrics made us realize in childhood how relations are important and how we need to treasure them … for example - sister songs … they made me realize she one day will go away from us to new family - it made me sad but also treasure every moment with her from then… 🙏🏻🙏🏻 so many songs movies taught use how to handle grief. Each and every emotion one would go thru their life - Bollywood’s movies have coveted it in some ways by you are a young man. So you don’t go shooting people when something happens to you. The insistence of west to portray a story and not emotional palette of a human being is at times too dangerous..!

Watching the top 100 songs of various artists threw light on a very strange fact, that on an average, I knew at least 60% of the newer songs and 90% from the singers of the bygone era. Knowing the total number of songs across all those performances was quite stupendous. One can safely assume an average bollywood music buff would know upward of 200 songs atleast. Maybe that's why 'Antakshari' (pronounced an-tack-sheri) a game in India is so popular.

It is probably one of the most difficult and versatile song sung by any playback singer.
Sung in ONE TAKE with such perfection, the actor here is Amitabh Bachchan who is playing drunk so the song is sung in such a way that you feel a drunk is singing and also the amount of tempo change in song. And to keep all this in mind the song was taken in one shot. And hats off to legend BAPPI DA. What an amazing MD.

I would highly recommend you react to his son Amit Kumar who still sings in live concerts and at the age of 72 delivers a power packed performance. Kishore Kumar is probably the greatest singer India has ever had post independence. He's a freaking legend. The man could sing anything, literally ANYTHING from rock to pop to romantic to sad to jazz anything and everything. He was the one who brought yodeling in Indian music which is essentially a Western thing. He was a damn good actor as well. He actually wanted to be an actor but it was his elder brother Ashok Kumar (who was also an actor) who convinced him to do singing and acting both. As a result he did both of them and he was outstanding in both of them. Kishore Kumar is known as the "Elvis Presley of India" because he was such a good actor+singer. He could change his voice to suit the actor's voice in the film and you'll literally feel as if the actor himself is singing. Yodeling as I told you was his trademark. Some songs of Kishore Kumar which you should definitely check out are Zindagi Ek Safar Hain Suhana, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, Bachna Ae Haseeno, O Mere Dil Ki Chain and Pag Ghungroo (absolutely freaking masterpiece. You'll be blown away by the amount of improvisations and sargams that Kishore Kumar has done in this particular song)

I can't believe how many of these songs I've heard even though the only movie I've seen is Sholay. A lot of these songs are remade and a lot of others are always referenced in modern Bollywood films.
