Craft stores are a great place to get cheap materials, especially at the end of holiday season, a lot of stuff goes on clearance. Don’t be afraid to get creative with materials. I snagged some marabou feather boas for $2 on sale and they will last forever.
I've tied with Guinea feathers for at least 3 years. Both the colored packs plus I have one full guinea fowl skin in natural. They work the same as hackles for palmering, they make good tails.
When I was just learning to tie flies I wanted some buffalo loose hair. My friend was caretaker for some buffalo. I reached through the fence, the buffalo snorted at me and that was end of me wanting buffalo hair
I’ve noticed you use a lot of wedge heads. Why do you prefer them and where do you get them? Do you think it has a different action than a round head? If so, what water conditions would make you choose one head over the other? Current? Fall rate?
