Been loving the Sparkie Jig mold !! made a few chatter baits, and they work like a dream, I watched the past two vid's too since they give different tid-bits. The wire keeper is a bit finiky at times, so i've modified my Jig Mold to be able to hold the wirekeeper in place close to the hook but enough for lead to flow around it, cause before, the wire keeper would be really tight against the hook where the lead needs to flow, but it gets blocked and i ended up with unfinished jigs that i had to melt back down, and redo it.
i've seen someone use heat shrink tubing over the eyes before pouring to help with all of that cleanup. helps with the paint on the eye issue too. not sure if it would help here but thought i'd mention it.
Matt, what heat range heat gun do you use when setting powder paint. I have an older gun and I think I'm thinking of going down to my local HF and getting a new gun. They have several models with different heat ranges so on your suggestion I will make my choice. Thanks again for taking the time to make quality tac building videos
Matt, great video. I watched the very first video you had on making these baits and I noticed you have changed up the wire form you used on the first video I watched. I like this much better. Can you again let us know the number of the form used in this video. Also where are you getting your blades, as well as, the make and model for the 4/0 flipping hooks you are using. I made my first chatterbaits using the wire form you previously used and I used 4/0 VMC spinnerbait hooks. I didn't care for the resultant action of the baits I made. The blades I used were rounded vs these blades you used in this video. Appreciate any help and new material tips you can upgrade me with. Thanks, George Nochta Santee, CA
Thanks Matt. I located the hooks and wire forms. When I order the blades from Ali express for the 3/8 & 1/2 oz jigs should I order the medium size blades for the proper action on the finished vibrating jigs? Thanks, George
@@MattLunaFishing Yeah for sure. I think I will order a small amount in S, M, & L and that will tell me what size I need. The blades I have are all the rounded edge type sold by Barlow's. Just thought you might have remembered what you used. Have a good Thanksgiving. Once I get my ali blades, I'll post what size I end up using. >+))))>
i feel adding the keeper is the cause of flashing i normally us a clamp & clamp my mold shut to prevent it from flashing. I am curious did you paint your blades or get them already painted? if so would you do a video of painting the baldes? those are some great colors!! As always thank you for the great videos keep up the great work!!
Thanks for the video. I agree with everything you said basically, I would say, making your skirts cute and even sells fishermen but a jagged skirt catches way more bass! Your pretty little taper looks good to us humans but it simply doesn’t look natural to bass! Todd Castledine made a great video that lines up with my statement. I will also give credit where it’s due to Randy Blaukat! He says the same exact thing!
You’re welcome. Glad you liked the video. I don’t normally have a jagged skirt, but I always shorten to make sure my trailer doesn’t get impacted by the skirt strands. Thanks for watching and commenting!
No i don’t. Just make sure they are warm when you start pouring. Occasionally I’ll spray blaster dry lube into the mold if I’m not getting complete pours.
Is there not an option for a 60* hook that fits in the mold without the wire eye? I am hesitant because I feel like that wire would bend out after too much weight or too many catches.
The wire won’t bend out for traditional fishing. Hooks can work, but often opening them and the closing them breaks the hook. They don’t bend all that well depending on brand
There isn’t space for it. You have to set it in the mold where you want it, and then slowly close the mold to pin it in place and then take a mallet and hit the mold until it closes all the way. It’s essentially modifying the mold and forcing it to accept the keeper
I have the same mold and the same wire forms but no matter how much I squeeze the wire form it will not fit any size less than 1/2 I want to do 3/8 am I missing something here?
It's the eye of it that's too big. I trimmed it down and that works but would the smaller one have a smaller eye ? Because that would work better. Where can I find it ? Thanks for the response bro appreciate it.
There’s a lot of variables to what makes a bait hunt. Jackhammers hunt better with a thin straight tail trailer. I’ve never used that style trailer on these. You’d have to give it a shot before you’ll know for sure.

Fabulous job!!!
Thanks!
Sweet stuff. Thanks for sharing

Yes you can do that. I don’t do it but it’s not a bad idea
They look great!
Thanks!

My heat gun only has a high and low setting. Mine may have come from there, I don’t remember. I’ve had it for a long time. I use the high setting.

The info on the components is in the description of the video. Listed out. The blades are from Ali express.

@georgenochta3725 it’s been so long since i ordered them, I’m not sure. I’d measure a blade you have now and get the one that’s closest

I painted them myself. I just use spray paint.
Looks good 👍
Thanks!
How long does it take to get the blades?
It’s been a while since i bought them. Probably couple months. Might find some on ebay
I'm pretty durable when I'm baked too... but cool video, I was curious how they were made.
Thanks for watching!
Nice work Matt as always what is the part number for those 4/0 hooks and can I use smaller hooks also ? Thx
The 4/0 hooks are just a 4/0 flipping hooks. Pick your favorite brand. You can use smaller hooks within reason.
Thanks for the video. I agree with everything you said basically, I would say, making your skirts cute and even sells fishermen but a jagged skirt catches way more bass! Just bought a few lead molds. Do you put anything on them before pouring?
No i don’t. Just make sure they are warm when you start pouring. Occasionally I’ll spray blaster dry lube into the mold if I’m not getting complete pours.
Dip the covered eye into the molten lead and the eye will open up and it will be smooth.
So you can put any flipping hook you want in this? Say you want an owner 5/0 Jungle flipping hook in there?
Yeah. Should be able to
Is there not an option for a 60* hook that fits in the mold without the wire eye? I am hesitant because I feel like that wire would bend out after too much weight or too many catches.
The wire won’t bend out for traditional fishing. Hooks can work, but often opening them and the closing them breaks the hook. They don’t bend all that well depending on brand
How do you fit that keeper next to the hook? Been messing around with my mold and it seems like there isn’t space

@@MattLunaFishing I see , thanks
You used a different wire form last time. Any reason why you changed?
Just showing another way to do it. I don’t think it matters either way.
Do you have a link to that purple color?
For the head of the chatterbaits or skirt?
Awesome
Thanks!
What brand and number of the flipping
4/0 hooks that were used?
You can use any brand you want. I think these were owner or gamakatsu
I have the same mold and the same wire forms but no matter how much I squeeze the wire form it will not fit any size less than 1/2 I want to do 3/8 am I missing something here?
Is too long? There’s a smaller wire form out there too that’s the same design
It's the eye of it that's too big. I trimmed it down and that works but would the smaller one have a smaller eye ? Because that would work better. Where can I find it ? Thanks for the response bro appreciate it.
@StevenGifford-tc9iw yea if i remember correctly the whole thing is downsized
Awesome thank you!!! I'll definitely check it out.
@StevenGifford-tc9iw you’re welcome
I use form wey 525. No need to modify.
I like this one because you have the ability to use a smaller hook
Put a ziptie in place of skirt band
Does it hunt like a jackhammer would?
There’s a lot of variables to what makes a bait hunt. Jackhammers hunt better with a thin straight tail trailer. I’ve never used that style trailer on these. You’d have to give it a shot before you’ll know for sure.
I appreciate your video and I make my own jigs ss well. But this is just way too much time. Just assume buy em. But thanks .
Really not that much more time than a jig.
I fish for redfish with chatterbaits those wouldn’t lastblades would open hook eye for sure.
You do realize this is essentially the same design as the actual chatterbait?

lol. I still get guys calling and asking me to sell them the original Vibrator Jig.@@MattLunaFishing

I have done this and it’s not worth making your own.
